Book excerpt: The Durni Dozen is a comprehensive guide to effective sales strategies. Robin Durni’s twelve steps toward becoming successful in sales outline a process beginning with preparation, understanding your client, and knowing the true value and purpose of your product. Durni’s approach to sales is more about building a relationship with new and existing clients than just moving a product. And building relationships means building trust, learning to listen, and finding the right questions to unlock the real reasons customers use the products they do. These probing questions and the resulting dialogue are what create the opportunity for and openness to your sales pitch. Durni presents a long-game philosophy that anticipates the evolution of both the client’s needs and the products available, as well as a sales relationship that will endure. Durni shares insightful stories of his 50 years in medical equipment sales to illustrate his twelve steps to advancing a sale and retaining a customer. From active listening to reading body language and finally to debriefing and following-up on initial sales meetings, the Durni Dozen offers tips on every aspect of the sales call with a focus on getting it right, being efficient, and valuing the client’s time and expertise. Even if you think you know how to sell, the Durni Dozen offers a strategy and inspiration to keep learning and perfecting your craft.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The spike in the oil price to almost $150 per barrel in summer 2008 was the last great excess of the crazed noughties bull markets, staged even as stock markets crumbled worldwide. Contrary to entrenched establishment opinion still embraced by many, 'Petromania' proves this oil price blowout was a classic speculative bubble, but driven primarily by new modes of financial speculation. Demolishing widespread, oft-repeated but incorrect arguments that such trade in paper barrels cannot move oil prices, 'Petromania' details how this financialisation of the oil markets meshed with other trends to create a moment that saw investment banks and hedge funds collectively wield more power over the price of black gold than OPEC or any multinational oil company. It also shows how regulatory blindness to the 'dark matter' of modern finance caused so many to confuse fantasy with reality for so long. 'Petromania' matters not just because fortunes were won and lost in oil's dizzying ascent and crash, but because this bubble spelled misery for ordinary people worldwide, destabilised developing world governments, and delayed interest rate cuts desperately needed to address the ongoing global recession. 'Petromania' matters because while all eyes are on the crippled banking system, we risk ignoring valuable lessons about twenty-first century markets from this other great boom-and-bust - even as the forces that blew the bubble are once again at work. And 'Petromania', this tale of black gold, dark matter and paper barrels, is written by one of the few commentators who correctly called the bubble before it burst.

Download or read book Roth and Trauma written by Aimee Pozorski and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2011-07-14 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Roth and Trauma: The Problem of History in the Later Works (1995-2010) moves beyond a critical reception of Philip Roth's recent fiction that has focused primarily on an interest in post WWII America. By contrast, Aimee Pozorski argues that these novels grapple more comprehensively with US history in their fascination with America's "traumatic beginnings" and the legacy of the American Revolution. Drawing on close readings and trauma theory, Roth and Trauma reveals the problem of history in Roth's later works to be the unexpected and repeated appearance of historical trauma that links the still-unfinished American dream with the nightmarish quality of our recent history.

Book excerpt: This book consolidates the information gathered by Johan Balthazar Knobel in the original book titled The Knobel Family and Relationships (published in 1894), and subsequent less formal documents made in 1895 and 1906, just before and just after the Boer War. The author stated on the cover of a copy of the book presented to a relative that he felt that the original work was: "A labour of love, much spoiled by the printer & by the copyist of type writing, Pretoria 8 January 1896 Whilst this publication attempts to remain as faithful to the original published work as possible, it does take into account his subsequent hand-written corrections, expansions, and explanations or translations where deemed appropriate to ease reading. The inconsistent or misprinted names and/or dates have been kept in the original work and are corrected at the back of the document in the section titled Photographs and Family Ties. Some inconsistencies are also explained in footnotes. The dates in the section Family Ties obviously only go until the cutoff date of 1906, as in the original. We, the present family, are busy compiling a more detailed family list for future generations which will be available soon. We would appreciate any information from all the family members for this project.

Book Pearl Harbor

Download or read book Pearl Harbor written by Homer N. Wallin and published by . This book was released on 2001-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pearl Harbor will long stand out in mens minds as an example of the results of basic unpreparedness of a peace loving nation, of highly efficient treacherous surprise attack and of the resulting unification of America into a single tidal wave of purpose to victory. Therefore, all will be interested in this unique narrative by Admiral Wallin. The Navy has long needed a succinct account of the salvage operations at Pearl Harbor that miraculously resurrected what appeared to be a forever shattered fleet. Admiral Wallin agreed to undertake the job. He was exactly the right man for it _ in talent, in perception, and in experience. He had served intimately with Admiral Nimitz and with Admiral Halsey in the South Pacific, has commanded three different Navy Yards, and was a highly successful Chief of the Bureau of Ships. On 7 December 1941 the then Captain Wallin was serving at Pearl Harbor. He witnessed the events of that shattering and unifying "Day of Infamy." His mind began to race at high speeds at once on the problems and means of getting the broken fleet back into service for its giant task. Unless the United States regained control of the sea, even greater disaster loomed. Without victory at sea, tyranny soon would surely rule all Asia and Europe. In a matter of time it would surely rule the Americas. Captain Wallin salvaged most of the broken Pearl Harbor fleet that went on to figure prominently in the United States Navys victory. So the account he masterfully tells covers what he masterfully accomplished. The United States owes him an unpayable debt for this high service among many others in his long career.
