Book Aquatic Microbial Ecology and Biogeochemistry A Dual Perspective

Download or read book Aquatic Microbial Ecology and Biogeochemistry A Dual Perspective written by Patricia M. Glibert and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-25 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights perspectives, insights, and data in the coupled fields of aquatic microbial ecology and biogeochemistry when viewed through the lens of collaborative duos – dual career couples. Their synergy and collaborative interactions have contributed substantially to our contemporary understanding of pattern, process and dynamics. This is thus a book by dual career couples about dual scientific processes. The papers herein represent wide-ranging topics, from the processes that structure microbial diversity to nitrogen and photosynthesis metabolism, to dynamics of changing ecosystems and processes and dynamics in individual ecosystems. In all, these papers take us from the Arctic to Africa, from the Arabian Sea to Australia, from small lakes in Maine and Yellowstone hot vents to the Sargasso Sea, and in the process provide analyses that make us think about the structure and function of all of these systems in the aquatic realm. This book is useful not only for the depth and breadth of knowledge conveyed in its chapters, but serves to guide dual career couples faced with the great challenges only they face. Great teams do make great science.

Book excerpt: There are two sides to every story. A little girl finds a strange beast in the woods and takes it home as a pet. She feeds it, shows it off to her friends and gives it a hat. But that night it escapes. Then the beast tells the story of being kidnapped by the girl, who forcefed it squirrel food, scared it with a group of beasts and wrapped it in wool. Can the two beasts resolve their differences? An eye-opening story that makes you look at things from a different perspective. 'Roberton's premise is as sublime as it is simple, with a subtle message. [...] Totally delightful.' - Kirkus Reviews

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever wanted to know what it would be like to one day come to understand why you had to be raped as a child, only to then live in one of the largest cults in the world as a preteen, who has to become a drug and sexual addict to survive his own personal purgatory, in order to rebuild not only his self-esteem but have the courage to then share it so as to empower others? If the answer is maybe or above, then this grammatically changing book may be the best fit for you! Some people just die "die" big, because they intend to live 'biggest." You might even wonder if it could all be based on one American males life at first glance, but it is, it's based on mine. Have you ever wondered why you had to experience things in this life so harshly? Or possibly ever wanted to ask the heavens what you could have done to deserve the struggles you have faced? Finally, have you ever considered what that interaction might truly look like or what would actually be said in that session? This book dives right into those queries as you follow the real life struggles of a boy who comes to be the embodiment of all men. And like you, and like all men, he'll be asked to face the hardest of lessons along his way but who will surprise you with each step of the way. Taking on accountability does not always lead to happy endings but it will always lead him to understanding what this life is all about. The real question is, do you really want to know the truth? If you do then understand this book will get you there . It begins with an ordinary young boy who will grow up to be of great importance as a man. You will get to follow his journey, both in living his pain and suffering and in experiencing its joy and celebrations. Like with most journeys of self fulfillment it begins with a Philosophical discovery, only in this one it begins with understanding ones perspective on what that discovery is. No one ever said that the two sides to a story concept could not be from the same source, did they? Join us as we share his story from two points of view. The first is the man himself (the Psychological ID), and the other is his Soul (the Psychological Super Id). From why he was molested, to why he had to experience a life within a cult of mammoth proportions, this true life stories end will keep its promise of revealing some truths you may or may not want to hear. But you will not know unless you come along for the ride . Like in the beginning of man, it will all begin with one simple question, what came first, the chicken or the egg? Perspective is key to understanding lifes true questions so imagine what two of them will do for revealing the truths that lay beyond what you believe to be true now and then what is true after you've read this. Are you ready to understand why dark matters exist in lifetimes made of light matter? A Dual Perspective bets that you are!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents current research in the area of advanced monitoring in P2P botnets, and uses a dual-perspective approach to discuss aspects of botnet monitoring in-depth. Then, adopting a botmaster perspective to anticipate the advances in future botnets, it introduces advanced measures to detect and prevent monitoring activities. All the proposed methods were evaluated either using real-world data or in a simulation scenario. In addition to providing readers with an in-depth understanding of P2P botnets, the book also analyzes the implications of the various design choices of recent botnets for effectively monitoring them. Book Bilingualism for All

Download or read book Bilingualism for All written by Nelson Flores and published by Multilingual Matters. This book was released on 2020-12-16 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is common for scholarly and mainstream discourses on dual language education in the US to frame these programs as inherently socially transformative and to see their proliferation in recent years as a natural means of developing more anti-racist spaces in public schools. In contrast, this book adopts a raciolinguistic perspective that points to the contradictory role that these programs play in both reproducing and challenging racial hierarchies. The book includes 11 chapters that adopt a range of methodological techniques (qualitative, quantitative and textual), disciplinary perspectives (linguistics, sociology and anthropology) and language foci (Spanish, Hebrew and Korean) to examine the ways that dual language education programs in the US often reinforce the racial inequities that they purport to challenge.

Book Dual Process Theory 2 0

Download or read book Dual Process Theory 2 0 written by Wim De Neys and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-09 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dual Process Theory 2.0 provides a comprehensive overview of the new directions in which dual process research is heading. Human thinking is often characterized as an interplay between intuition and deliberation and this two-headed, dual process view of human thinking has been very influential in the cognitive sciences and popular media. However, despite the popularity of the dual process framework it faces multiple challenges. Recent advances indicate that there is a strong need to re-think some of the fundamental assumptions of the original dual process model. With chapters written by leading scholars who have been actively involved in the development of an upgraded ‘Dual Process Theory 2.0’, this edited volume presents an accessible overview of the latest empirical findings and theoretical ideas.. With cutting edge insights on the interaction between intuition and deliberation, Dual Process Theory 2.0 should be of interest to psychologists, philosophers, and economists who are using dual process models.

  • Release : 2009
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 388 pages

Download or read book In Two Minds written by Jonathan St. B. T. Evans and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2009 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the idea that we have two minds - one that is automatic, unconscious, and fast, the other controlled, conscious, and slow. In recent years there has been great interest in so-called dual-process theories of reasoning and rationality. According to dual processs theories, there are two distinct systems underlying human reasoning - an evolutionarily old system that is associative, automatic, unconscious, parallel, and fast, and a more recent, distinctively human system that is rule-based, controlled, conscious, serial, and slow. Within the former, processes are held to be innate and to use heuristics which evolved to solve specific adaptive problems. In the latter, processes are taken to be learned, flexible, and responsive to rational norms. Despite the attention these theories are attracting, there is still poor communication between dual-process theorists themselves, and the substantial bodies of work on dual processes in cognitive psychology and social psychology remain isolated from each other. This book brings together leading researchers on dual-processes to summarize the state of the art, highlight key issues, present different perspectives, explore implications, and provide a stimulus to further work. It includes new ideas about the human mind both by contemporary philosophers interested in broad theoretical questions about mental architecture and by psychologists specialising in traditionally distinct and isolated fields. For all those in the cognitive sciences, this is a book that will advance dual-process theorizing, promote interdisciplinary communication, and encourage further applications of dual-process approaches.

Mead, L.S. Vygotsky, Ludwik Fleck, and Mikhail Bakhtin; the influence of gender on language use; the views of current thinkers on the social character of the classroom and academic communities; and the process of individual language development.
