Book The Divine Comedy Deseret Alphabet Edition

Download or read book The Divine Comedy Deseret Alphabet Edition written by John Jenkins and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-02-12 with total page 627 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dante Alighieri (1265-1321) was an Italian poet and philosopher. He was the greatest poet of Italian literature, the greatest Western poet between antiquity and the modern era, and one of the half-dozen greatest poets of all time. It is no exaggeration to say that Dante is to Italian what Shakespeare is to English. The Divine Comedy is Dante's magnum opus. It is an epic, allegorical poem recounting Dante's journey through the afterlife, guided by the Roman poet Virgil and Beatrice Portinari, Dante's ideal woman. The Comedy encapsulates late Medieval thought on subjects such as religion, philosophy, politics, and science. The translation here given is that of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882), a prominent American poet and translator. This book is in the Deseret Alphabet, a phonetic alphabet for writing English developed in the mid-19th century at the University of Deseret (now the University of Utah).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dorothy Leigh Sayers (1893-1957) was an English novelist, playwright, essayist, and translator. Her magnum opus, incomplete at her death, is her translation of Dante's Divine Comedy, which is still in print.Sayers is best remembered for her series of novels featuring the amateur detective, Lord Peter Wimsey, of which Whose Body? is the first. Although the mysteries themselves are ingeneous, Sayers' greatest genius is in her richly-drawn characters and the detailed world they inhabit. The Lord Peter mysteries are a fascinating examination of Great Britain between the two World Wars. This edition is in the Deseret Alphabet, a phonetic alphabet for English developed by the University of Deseret (now the University of Utah) in the 1850s and 1860s.

Book And There Was No Poor Among Them

Download or read book And There Was No Poor Among Them written by Ryan D. Ward and published by Greg Kofford Books. This book was released on 2023-05-16 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has expanded many fundamental Christian doctrines, salvation is still understood as pertaining exclusively to the next life. How should we understand salvation and what does the timing of the Restoration reveal about God’s vision of salvation for a suffering world? To answer these questions, author Ryan Ward traces the theological evolution of salvation from the liberation of Israel from oppression to the Western Christian development of salvation as an individualistic, transactional atonement. This evolution corresponded with the shift of Christianity from a covenant community to an official state religion aligned with imperial power structures. Ward also explores the economic and social movements in the centuries leading up to the Industrial Revolution, which solidified the power of propertied elites at the expense of the poor, plundered entire continents, and killed millions. Synthesizing these theological and historical threads, And There Was No Poor Among Them: Liberation, Salvation, and the Meaning of the Restoration asserts that the Restoration is God's explicit rejection of social and economic systems and ideologies that have led to the globalization of misery. Instead, Ward shows how the Restoration and the gospel of Christ is an invitation to a participatory salvation realized in Zion communities where “there are no poor among us.”
