Download or read book Learning with Lenin written by Derek R. Ford and published by IAP. This book was released on 2019-02-01 with total page 669 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learning with Lenin brings together, for the first time, Lenin’s classic texts and his speeches and writings on education. To facilitate educators and activists’ engagement with these works, a study and discussion guide accompanies each text. Learning with Lenin contributes to the rematerialization of a revolutionary movement in the U.S. by focusing on the pedagogy of Lenin. After a series of setbacks and attacks that seriously degraded its status in both working-class struggles and educational theory, socialism is once again on the rise. Like the generations before them, organizers, activists, and educators are once again turning to classic works of socialism to understand and respond to the systematic depravities of imperialism, white supremacy, and settler-colonialism. Learning with Lenin will assist anyone interested in reading and applying Lenin’s theories to our current era, with all of its complexities and contradictions. Praise for Learning with Lenin "Renowned education psychologist Lev Vygotsky knew quite well that Lenin had much to teach us about the relationship between education and revolution. In Learning with Lenin, Derek Ford and Curry Malott help bring Lenin’s valuable insights into today’s struggle for a society that meets the needs of humanity and the planet.” ~ Wayne Au, Professor, UW Bothell, author of, A Marxist Education.

Wage Labour and Capital Karl Marx’s Wage Labour and Capital contains many important insights into the workings of the capitalist system and the way in which labour is exploited. With an excellent introduction by Frederick Engels. Value, Price and Profit Value, Price and Profit was first delivered as a speech delivered by Marx in June 1865, while he was working on the first volume of Capital that was published two years later. “Left-Wing” Communism: An Infantile Disorder In “Left-Wing” Communism we have Lenin’s exposition of the necessity to combine theoretical firmness with tactical and organizational flexibility in order to win the masses. In Defence of October Leon Trotsky’s work In Defence of October is the title of a speech delivered to a meeting of Social Democratic students in Copenhagen advancing the cause of the Russian Revolution. Stalinism and Bolshevism By contrast, in Stalinism and Bolshevism Trotsky examines the revolution’s bureaucratic degeneration which finally resulted in the Stalinist antithesis of the democratic workers’ state.

Book Total Wars and the Making of Modern Ukraine 1914 1954

Download or read book Total Wars and the Making of Modern Ukraine 1914 1954 written by George Liber and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2016-05-09 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between 1914 and 1954, the Ukrainian-speaking territories in East Central Europe suffered almost 15 million “excess deaths” as well as numerous large-scale evacuations and forced population transfers. These losses were the devastating consequences of the two world wars, revolutions, famines, genocidal campaigns, and purges that wracked Europe in the first half of the twentieth century and spread new ideas, created new political and economic systems, and crafted new identities. In Total Wars and the Making of Modern Ukraine, 1914–1954, George O. Liber argues that the continuous violence of the world wars and interwar years transformed the Ukrainian-speaking population of East Central Europe into self-conscious Ukrainians. Wars, mass killings, and forced modernization drives made and re-made Ukraine’s boundaries, institutionalized its national identities, and pruned its population according to various state-sponsored political, racial, and social ideologies. In short, the two world wars, the Holodomor, and the Holocaust played critical roles in forming today’s Ukraine. A landmark study of the terrifying scope and paradoxical consequences of mass violence in Europe’s bloodlands, Liber’s book will transform our understanding of the entangled histories of Ukraine, the USSR, Germany, and East Central Europe in the twentieth century.

Book The Dialectics of Democracy

  • Publisher : Taylor & Francis

Download or read book The Dialectics of Democracy written by Dimitrios Kivotidis and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-03-05 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines how the democratic form and the struggle for democracy reflects, influences and shapes the struggle for social emancipation. In the context of increased exploitation, rising inequality, and intensified struggle for social justice in the aftermath of the economic crisis, the channelling of populism through liberal democratic institutions has had contradictory effects: giving rise to both Corbyn and Brexit, Sanders and Trump, Syriza and the Golden Dawn, to name but a few. How can we make sense of these developments? In response, this book approaches the idea of democracy from a socialist constitutionalist standpoint and explores institutional forms and principles that challenge and aim at the transformation of the extant social order. This process involves the challenging of well-established ideas of the liberal viewpoint, as well as an unwavering focus on the issue of class rule which enables the highlighting of limitations of -not only mainstream but also heterodox- contemporary approaches to constitutionalism and democracy. Ultimately, democracy is conceived as a process of struggle for creating the conditions, material as well as intellectual, for its actualisation. This significant work of legal and political theory will be of considerable interest to those working in these areas to make sense of contemporary developments, and to further the causes of social justice and social emancipation.

Book The Ballot the Streets or Both

Download or read book The Ballot the Streets or Both written by August H. Nimtz and published by Haymarket Books. This book was released on 2019-11-05 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nimtz uncovers in one that attempts to chart a course between plain opportunism and anarchist rejections of the electoral arena. Instead, electoral campaigns are seen as crucial for developing political education and organisation, and as a key way to measure your forces and communicate with the wider population. As radical left reformist projects, exemplified by Sanders and Corbyn, once again become a political force and the left has to think about what it means to run for office in a capitalist state, it's a good time to look back at how the left has historically conducted such debates.
