Book The Development of Vocational Stewardship among Indonesian Christian Professionals

Download or read book The Development of Vocational Stewardship among Indonesian Christian Professionals written by Sutrisna Harjanto and published by Langham Publishing. This book was released on 2018-07-31 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christian professionals, through their daily work, have important roles in God’s mission. However, little empirical research has been done to understand their journey to connect their daily work with God’s. If the church of Jesus Christ is to have the transformational impact that the world needs then we must better understand our vocations from a biblical and missional perspective. In this thorough study, Dr Sutrisna Harjanto explores the formational elements of the integration of faith, work and mission among Indonesian Christian professionals. From detailed semi-structured interviews with twenty-eight participants, this study provides deeper insight into the development of vocational stewardship and the role of empowering relationships and communities. Through careful analysis and evaluation, the resulting book is an educational perspective on the theology of work and mission, beneficial for those in positions to equip and support Christian professionals as they work to fulfil God’s mission through daily work.

This book was released on 2016 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This qualitative research explored the development of vocational stewardship among Indonesian Christian professionals. Twenty-eight participants were purposively selected from the populations of Christian professionals in Jakarta and three surrounding cities. Data was collected through a semi-structured interview. Theology of work, holistic mission, and formation related with developmental perspectives were key theories to frame the discussion on the research findings. The findings suggest that three robust dimensions of vocational stewardship, calling, service, and the meaning of work, were developed through different phases in a life time process. Four phases of development identified through this research were introductory, formative, transition, and generative. For a fruitful formation, Christian educators need to take into account the unique characteristics of each phase. Central to these phases is the formative phase that significantly impacts the rest of a person's vocational stewardship journey. Also needing special attention is a crucial transition that follows, the early phase of integrating faith into work life. For most participants, these two key phases took place in their emerging adulthood. The study also finds two important resources for the development of vocational stewardship: networks of empowering relationships and empowering communities. This includes the crucial roles of mentor and mentoring community in the formative and transitional phases. To give fruitful support, Christian educators need to provide well-functioning networks of those resources, whether in the local church or parachurch ministry context. Attention also needs to be given to the types of support most suitable with the phase of vocational stewardship development of those who are targeted.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been an explosion of publishing in the faith–work movement in the last twenty years. Work is increasingly seen as the new frontier for Christian mission. However, the church and theological colleges have failed to keep up with the interest among, and needs of, workplace Christians. This book is the urgent corrective that is needed, moving past Theology of Work 101 to much deeper encounters with God’s word as it relates to daily work. These twelve academic papers look at work through three different lenses: the workplace, the church, and theological education. It is prefaced by Mark Greene from the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity, reflecting on what work, church, and theological education would look like if there was no sacred–secular divide. In the concluding remarks, the editors imagine a future where each domain is transformed by the gospel, working dynamically together for the life of the world. While academic in terms of depth of thinking, quality of research, and referencing of crucial sources for further exploration, this book is never dry. Rather, it’s life-giving and provocative for every vocation, asking fundamental questions of the reader: What is the work that God is calling you to do? How can the gospel transform your work? And how well-positioned are churches and colleges to be at the forefront of transforming vocation? With contributions from: Mark Greene James Pietsch Peter White Peter Docherty Gordon Preece Keith Mitchell David Fagg Ian Hussey Colin Noble Andrew Matthews Sarah Bacaller Samuel Curkpatrick Maggie Kappelhoff

Book Faith Integrated Being Knowing and Doing

Download or read book Faith Integrated Being Knowing and Doing written by Sarinah Lo and published by Langham Monographs. This book was released on 2020-08-31 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this holistic study of the integration of faith and learning, Dr. Sarinah Lo challenges the Western tendency to privilege knowing over being and doing. In the context of Indonesian higher education, Dr. Lo addresses the cognitive, affective, spiritual, relational, and vocational aspects of human nature. She demonstrates that effective integration of faith and learning must reach beyond the academic disciplines to address the formation of a Christian perspective in all areas of life, thought, and practice. Utilizing in-depth interviews and qualitative analysis, Dr. Lo’s field research explores the specific challenges facing Christian faculty in Indonesia, where the rise of radical Islam and the pressure to conform to state ideology raise unique questions about the nature of faith-learning integration. The first study of its kind, this is an excellent resource for educators wanting to think more broadly about what it means to follow Christ in the classroom, pushing beyond Western models of integration to embrace the more holistic approach of faith-integrated being, knowing, and doing.

Book Environmental Education in Indonesia

Download or read book Environmental Education in Indonesia written by Lyn Parker and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-08-08 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indonesia’s wealth of natural resources is being exploited at breakneck speed, and environmental awareness and knowledge among the populace is limited. This book examines how young people learn about the environment to see how education can help to develop environmental awareness and avert vast environmental destruction, not only in Indonesia, but also in the Global South more generally. Based on in-depth studies conducted in the cities of Yogyakarta and Surabaya, complemented with surveys of students in secondary schools, Environmental Education in Indonesia examines educational curricula, pedagogy and "green" activities to reveal what is currently being done in schools to educate children about the environment. The book investigates the shortcomings in environment education, including underqualified teachers, the civil service mentality, the still-pervasive chalk-and-talk pedagogy and the effect of the examination system. It also analyses the role of local government in supporting (or not) environmental education, and the contribution of environmental NGOs. The book establishes that young people are not currently being exposed to effective environmental education, and the authors propose that the best and most culturally appropriate way forward in Indonesia is to frame pro-environment behaviour and responsibility as a form of citizenship, and specifically that environmental education should be taught as a separate subject. This book will be of great interest to students and scholars of contemporary Indonesia and Southeast Asia, education for sustainability and environmental education, as well as sustainability and sustainable development more generally. Book Faith Based Organizations in Development Discourses and Practice

Download or read book Faith Based Organizations in Development Discourses and Practice written by Jens Koehrsen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-11-28 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring faith-based organizations (FBOs) in current developmental discourses and practice, this book presents a selection of empirical in-depth case-studies of Christian FBOs and assesses the vital role credited to FBOs in current discourses on development. Examining the engagement of FBOs with contemporary politics of development, the contributions stress the agency of FBOs in diverse contexts of development policy, both local and global. It is emphasised that FBOs constitute boundary agents and developmental entrepreneurs: they move between different discursive fields such as national and international development discourses, theological discourses, and their specific religious constituencies. By combining influxes from these different contexts, FBOs generate unique perspectives on development: they express alternative views on development and stress particular approaches anchored in their theological social ethics. This book should be of interest to those researching FBOs and their interaction with international organizations, and to scholars working in the broader areas of religion and politics and politics and development.
