Book The Determination of Ionization Constants

Download or read book The Determination of Ionization Constants written by Adrien Albert and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This practical manual is devised for organic chemists and biochemists who, in the course of their researches and without previous experience, need to determine an ionization constant. We are gratified that earlier editions were much used for this purpose and that they also proved adequate for the in service training of technicians and technical officers to provide a Department with a pK service. The features of previous editions that gave this wide appeal have been retained, but the subject matter has been revised, extended, and brought up to date. We present two new chapters, one of which describes the determination of the stability constants of the complexes which organic ligands form with metal cations. The other describes the use of more recently introduced techniques for the determination of ionization constants, such as Raman and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, thermometric titrations, and paper electro phoresis. Chapter 1 gives enhanced help in choosing between alternative methods for determining ionization constants. The two chapters on potentiometric methods have been extensively revised in the light of newer understanding of electrode processes and of the present state of the art in instrumen tation.

Book Optimization of adaptive test design methods for the determination of steady state data driven models in terms of combustion engine calibration

Download or read book Optimization of adaptive test design methods for the determination of steady state data driven models in terms of combustion engine calibration written by Sandmeier, Nino and published by Universitätsverlag der TU Berlin. This book was released on 2022-12-01 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis deals with the development of a model-based adaptive test design strategy with a focus on steady-state combustion engine calibration. The first research topic investigates the question how to handle limits in the input domain during an adaptive test design procedure. The second area of scope aims at identifying the test design method providing the best model quality improvement in terms of overall model prediction error. To consider restricted areas in the input domain, a convex hull-based solution involving a convex cone algorithm is developed, the outcome of which serves as a boundary model for a test point search. A solution is derived to enable the application of the boundary model to high-dimensional problems without calculating the exact convex hull and cones. Furthermore, different data-driven engine modeling methods are compared, resulting in the Gaussian process model as the most suitable one for a model-based calibration. To determine an appropriate test design method for a Gaussian process model application, two new strategies are developed and compared to state-of-the-art methods. A simulation-based study shows the most benefit applying a modified mutual information test design, followed by a newly developed relevance-based test design with less computational effort. The boundary model and the relevance-based test design are integrated into a multicriterial test design strategy that is tailored to match the requirements of combustion engine test bench measurements. A simulation-based study with seven and nine input parameters and four outputs each offered an average model quality improvement of 36 % and an average measured input area volume increase of 65 % compared to a non-adaptive space-filling test design. The multicriterial test design was applied to a test bench measurement with seven inputs for verification. Compared to a space-filling test design measurement, the improvement could be confirmed with an average model quality increase of 17 % over eight outputs and a 34 % larger measured input area.

Book Application of the High Temperature Calorimeter to the Determination of the Heats of Formation of Na Sn and Li Sn Alloys

Download or read book Application of the High Temperature Calorimeter to the Determination of the Heats of Formation of Na Sn and Li Sn Alloys written by and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method has been devised for using the high frequency induction coil as a high temperature calorimeter. The method enables one to determine the heat effects produced at high temperatures. The method has been applied to the determination of the heats of formation of the alloys Na-Sn and Li-Sn. The average heat of formation (delta H) determined for Na-Sn is -9.63 +/= 0.40 hilocalories per mole at 8730 K. This value becomes -10.6 +/= 0.6 kilocalories per mole when extrapolated to 298 deg K. The average heat of formation (delta H) determined for Li-Sn is -17.57 +/= 0.83 kilocalories per mole at 850 deg K. This value becomes -18.62 +/= 1.50 kilocalories per mole when extrapolated to 298 deg K. These results are compared with the results of other investigators.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 519 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: X-ray crystaIlography provides us with the most accurate picture we can get of atomic and molecular structures in crystals. It provides a hard bedrock of structural results in chemistry and in mineralogy. In biology, where the structures are not fuIly crystaIline, it can still provide valuable results and, indeed, the impact here has been revolutionary. It is still an immense field for young workers, and no doubt will provide yet more striking develop ments of a major character. It does, however, require a wide range of inteIlectual application, and a considerable ability in many fields. This book will provide much help. It is a very straightforward and thorough guide to every aspect of the subject. The authors are experienced both as research workers themselves and as teachers of standing, and this is shown in their clarity of exposition. There are plenty of illustrations and worked examples to aid the student to obtain areal grasp of the subject.
