Book Advances in Nuclear Science and Technology

Download or read book Advances in Nuclear Science and Technology written by Paul Greebler and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Nuclear Science and Technology, Volume 3 provides an authoritative, complete, coherent, and critical review of the nuclear industry. This book presents the advances in the atomic energy field. Organized into six chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the use of pulsed neutron sources for the determination of the thermalization and diffusion properties of moderating as well as multiplying media. This text then examines the effect of nuclear radiation on electronic circuitry and its components. Other chapters consider radiation effects in various inorganic solids, with emphasis on the investigation of variations effected in the mechanical and optical crystalline properties. This book discusses as well several methods for solving various problems in reactor theory. The final chapter deals with several types of pulsed neutron sources in use and speculates on improvements that may be expected in their performance. This book is a valuable resource for design engineers and neuron physicists.

Book ANALYSIS OF SELF SHUTDOWN BEHAVIOR IN THE SPERT I REACTOR

Download or read book ANALYSIS OF SELF SHUTDOWN BEHAVIOR IN THE SPERT I REACTOR written by and published by . This book was released on 1959 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presented at the 1958 Winter Meeting of the American Nuclear Society, December 9, 1958. Experimental and theoretical work on the selflimiting response of reactors to step and ramp insertions of reactivity is discussed along with the general characteristics of self-limiting power bursts. The static characteristics of the cores investigated are presented and the techniques of measurement are discussed. Data from step and ramp tests are presented and compared with the predictions of a theoretical formulation of reactor self- shutdown in terms of energy release. The discussion includes an evaluation of some postulated shutdown mechanisms in the light of experimental results. Some results of detailed calculations of shutdown effects due to specific mechanisms which are believed to contribute significantly to reactor self-shutdown are presented. (auth).

Book Introductory Nuclear Reactor Dynamics

Download or read book Introductory Nuclear Reactor Dynamics written by Karl Otto Ott and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text presents the theory and methods of prediction that are the heart of nuclear reactor safety. Time-dependent reactor behavior is explained in both mathematical and physical terms. This book also explains the logic behind the working formulas and calculational methods for reactor transients and illustrates typical dynamic responses. The classical concept of point kinetics is developed in three steps, with discussion of various solutions to kinetics problems. Each chapter includes homework problems and review questions.
