Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Levitical Day of Atonement was a day of penitence, confession, and judgment for Israelites of loyal character and a day of covenant renewal for the nation of Israel. On this day, sin was removed from the tabernacle through the application of sacrificial blood to its altars and compartments, as well as by the dismissal of the goat for Azazel, which carried all the community’s sin to a “barren land.” As it became ingrained in the veil of Jewish consciousness, the Day of Atonement underwent a “process of abstraction” over many centuries leading up to Second Temple times, when the Most Holy Place lay devoid of the ark of the covenant and its mercy seat. Continuing to reverberate in the Jewish imaginaire, the Day of Atonement was received by the authors of the New Testament, including John of Patmos, to whom its sacrificial typology provided irresistible motifs which they used to proclaim “the Christ event.” By utilizing a coherent intertextual approach, this book explores how John wove the Day of Atonement into the colorful literary tapestry of Revelation.

Book Atonement and the Logic of Resurrection in Hebrews 9 27 28

Download or read book Atonement and the Logic of Resurrection in Hebrews 9 27 28 written by William W. Henry and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2024-09-05 with total page 613 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The general believer waiting for salvation by Jesus hopes to see him appear while living or promptly at death. Comfort during loss of life usually portrays those passing now in heaven. Conversely, the more religiously academic, the less one thinks anyone, ever, goes to heaven. Trained scholars typically choose a closed heaven with temporal delays and spatial detours in limitation of God’s promises about “so great salvation.” “Better” typically perceives as a resuscitated flesh on earth that lives by decay of the surrounding creation. Hearing word-meaning by mapping creation with an old first-century option for plural heavens, this project reexamines the conversation recommended by the pastor in the letter to the Hebrews about promises regarding the twofold ministry of Christ. By analysis with current study tools, the conversation both challenges the common academy views and reintroduces a first-century hearing option for God’s speech concerning prompt, postmortem, Christ fulfillment into heaven. Listening includes the milk of the beginning teaching requirements for atonement and logic of resurrection to God immediately after death and judgment. Hearing senses the solid food about priestly intercession by Jesus after death at judgment to shepherd his believers for salvation into heaven a very little while after individual death and judgment.

Book Glorified Fasting

Download or read book Glorified Fasting written by Franklin Hall and published by Ravenio Books. This book was released on 2016-04-14 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fasting, like prayer, is an integral part of the Word of God. To dispute this would be as foolish as denying that water is wet. In “Glorified Fasting,” Franklin Hall passionately explores the significance of fasting for Christians. He invites us to “STAND FAST” on this irrevocable tradition, which we have been taught in the Word. By doing so, we honor Jesus and allow His glory to shine forth. This volume seeks to popularize one of the most downtrodden Biblical subjects—the practice of fasting. Hall’s mission is to reestablish fasting’s rightful place in the Gospel, revealing its glorious aspects. As we delve into this tremendous portion of the Word, we discover an avenue to immense power and glory with Jesus. Fasting, praying, crying, and mourning for souls become our tools, wielded without selfish motives. By uniting as pillars of faith, we prepare for the last-day signs that approach us—tragedy, destruction, persecution—armed with an effective weapon for the glory of Jesus. However, Hall is clear: Fasting is not a cure-all for spiritual, moral, or bodily complaints. Instead, he emphasizes its importance to prevent God’s people from drifting away from the old-time faith and succumbing to modernism.

Book The Great Controversy Between Christ and Satan From the Destruction of Jersualem to the End of the Controversy

White and published by Yesterday's World Publishing. This book was released on 2020-02-20 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Lord has shown me that Satan was once an honored angel in heaven, next to Jesus Christ. His countenance was mild, expressive of happiness like the other angels. His forehead was high and broad, and showed great intelligence. His form was perfect. He had noble, majestic bearing. And I saw that when God said to his Son, Let us make man in our image, Satan was jealous of Jesus. He wished to be consulted concerning the formation of man. He was filled with envy, jealousy and hatred. He wished to be the highest in heaven, next to God, and receive the highest honors. Until this time all heaven was in order, harmony and perfect subjection to the government of God."-Ellen G White

Book The Final Atonement and the Judgment of the Living

Download or read book The Final Atonement and the Judgment of the Living written by Mark Shipowick and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-03-29 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The final phase of Christ's atonement, the judgment of the living, is mentioned in several scriptures, including Revelation 14:6 which is heaven's announcement that the "hour of His judgment" has arrived. The attention of the world was first drawn to that message in the great revival of the early 1840's called the Second Great Awakening. Before the return of Christ this message will be proclaimed again in the power of the latter rain at the judgment of the living. Daniel 7 and Revelation 4 and 5 describe what takes place at that time. In both of these parallel descriptions the heavenly court convenes and at that time the Son of Man is glorified and given universal authority to complete the atonement, to establish everlasting righteousness and to bring human history to its consummation. This final phase of human history is described in Revelation 6, where, shortly after the Divine court session begins, the Lion/Lamb opens the seven seals one by one which end with the return of Christ. In Daniel 12, Michael, who is Christ, stands up at or near the start of this final judgment hour. The sounding of the trumpets and the outpouring of the plagues also begin during this time and all three - the seals, trumpets and plagues - run together to the second coming of Christ. Until now, most Seventh-day Adventists have believed that probation closes for everyone at the start of the seven last plagues and I respect that. But I also think it's a mistake that will result in a rude awakening for those who hold that view. So I spend quite a bit of time on that issue in this book quoting scripture and statements by Ellen White on the battle of Armageddon and others that show that the time of God's destructive judgments is a time of mercy for those who haven't had the opportunity to hear the truth but it will be too late for many. Probation will indeed have closed for some - the five unwise virgins. Most Adventists also believe the latter rain occurs before the plagues. However, the main part of the latter rain falls during the plagues. Revelation 16 teaches that probation remains open for many until the close of the battle of Armageddon. In addition to the quotes by Ellen White on Armageddon that are cited in the book, one indication probation hasn't closed during the plagues and during this final battle is that Christ Himself warns: "Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame." Rev 16:15. If it's possible to lose your wedding garment and be found naked, probation hasn't closed yet. This is also confirmed two verses later when the voice from the throne says "It is done". Rev. 16:17. That Divine pronouncement is the final close for everyone, but notice, it occurs at the end of the battle of Armageddon at the seventh plague. And so, this book is a warning of the swift coming judgments of the seals, trumpets and plagues that will confront humanity as an overwhelming surprise at the judgment of the living. It points to the prophecies that identify the start of that process and follows them through to the return of Christ.

Book Ezekiel s Hope

Download or read book Ezekiel s Hope written by Jacob Milgrom and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2012-09-14 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jacob Milgrom was a man of deep faith and deep learning. As teacher and scholar he is best known for his work on ancient Israel's religion, especially its cultic expression in tabernacle and temple. His command of this subject is evident in his massive, three-volume commentary on Leviticus (Anchor Bible Commentary) and his commentary on Numbers (JPS Torah Commentary). This provides perfect background for one who seeks to instruct us on the final chapters of Ezekiel. In this volume Milgrom guides us engagingly through Ezekiel's oracle against Gog (chs. 38-39) and his final vision of Israel's physical and spiritual restoration (chs. 40-48). Regrettably Professor Milgrom did not live to see his work on Ezekiel appear in print. Given his influence on biblical scholarship far beyond his native Jewish world, it is fitting that this final form of this project be cast as an interfaith dialogue with Daniel Block, who has himself written a major two-volume commentary on Ezekiel (NICOT). This volume offers a window into how one Jewish scholar engaged with the work of a Christian scholar. It invites readers to listen in on their conversation, in the course of which they will also hear the voices of medieval Jewish rabbis, particularly R. Eliezer of Beaugency and R. Joseph Kara. While Block and Milgrom are free to disagree in their reading of particular texts, readers will find this dialogue illuminating for their own understanding of the last chapters of Ezekiel.

Book Lectures on the Day of Atonement Levitious XVI

Download or read book Lectures on the Day of Atonement Levitious XVI written by W. Kelly and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-12-02 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lectures on the Day of Atonement, Levitious XVI: With an Appendix on the Chief Errors Recently Current on Atonement But the Day of Atonement necessarily had a temporal and imperfect character; the law made nothing perfect. It was, beyond question, the most solemn act in the whole Jewish year; but the fact of its renewal every year was conclusive evidence, as the Epistle to the Hebrews declares, of its ineffi cacy for conscience as well as for God in view of eternity. It was therefore provisional, as all the institutions of the law were. Is this any impeachment of God's law P It is H is own word that pronounces it. If so, you will allow God to be a better judge than you are, or I, or all men. If God declares that the law made nothing perfect - and such is His expressed and irrevocable sentence (heb. Vii. 19) - who with the least reverence for God can question it for a moment Therefore the provisional atonement year by year for Israel on its face had what did not rise up to the perfection of God's nature, character, and mind. At best it could be but a shadow of the grace and truth that came by Jesus Christ. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Cult and Character

Download or read book Cult and Character written by Roy Gane and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2005-06-23 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through the swirling smoke of Aaron’s incense, and of scholarly theories, the present volume steps toward the meaning enacted on “the Day of Purgation,” commonly known as Yom Kippur or “the Day of Atonement.” By treating moral evil both as relational/legal breach and as pollution, the Israelite system of “purification offerings” = so-called “sin offerings” addresses both the standing and state of YHWH’s people. This system shows the way not only to freedom from condemnation but also to healing of character, which is defined in terms of loyalty to YHWH. Freedom and healing come together on the Day of Purgation, when purification rituals benefit those who show themselves loyal to YHWH by affirming the freedom from condemnation that they have previously received. The effects of purification rituals on YHWH’s sanctuary and community profile harmony between justice and kindness in the character of YHWH as he deals with imperfect people of various kinds of character by pardoning and clearing the loyal but condemning the disloyal. Thus, Gane ultimately affirms Milgrom’s seminal insight that theodicy is foundational to the Israelite expiatory system. Gane’s conclusions are derived from exegetical study of Hebrew ritual texts, informed by controls to ritual analysis developed in the course of prior research through critical examination of existing ritual theories and by adapting a systems theory approach to human activity systems.

Book The Stand

  • Author : Scott Burgess

  • ISBN : 1479611379
  • Pages : 309 pages

Download or read book The Stand written by Scott Burgess and published by TEACH Services, Inc.. This book was released on with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scott Burgess has crafted a most intriguing commentary on Revelation's Old Testament counterpart. Readers will treasure The Stand: Jesus in the Book of Daniel for its educational and devotional value. It not only aids in deciphering mysteries and symbols but also encourages and promotes complete dedication to our Lord and Savior as it highlights the central theme of standing unsullied in the end-time judgment. The author upholds the traditional Adventist methodology of allowing Scripture to interpret itself, and looking to history to confirm fulfilled prophecy. With that said, he also introduces a number of fresh insights. He highlights fascinating linguistic and conceptual connections with other portions of Scripture that many of us have not identified before. Those who pore over this tome will find a number of areas they readily agree with, and other areas that will require prayerful reflection before forming a decision, but nearly all will acknowledge Burgess' skillful manner of provoking prayerful thought and contemplation. What makes any book like this truly worthwhile is the presence of Christ. Burgess stresses the ubiquity of His manifestation throughout the book—as the One who rules the universe, past, present, and future; and as the One who empowers His people to withstand the fiercest opposition for the sake of faithfulness to Him and His commandments. Jesus offers the same empowerment to us, especially as imminent events parallel what the four Hebrews experienced. This 2,500-plus-year-old document speaks to us today.
