Book The Internal Cry of My Heart

Book excerpt: Hope abounds in this collection of introspective poems. A fresh voice in the world of poetry presents a collection of thoughtful poems that showcase his multinational background and gift for capturing emotions. Born in Zambia, Daliso Banda has lived within unique cultures in both his native country as well as China, and his diverse background shines through in his imagery. Banda offers a fascinating contrast between what he experienced living in other countries with the universal events he has experienced in relationships as he shares his profound thoughts about life and death-joy and sadness-love and hate. In the poem "Heartbreaker," the reader is transported back to the memory of a first love when Banda writes, "She's tender and caring. The kind of a woman that makes a man forget about the outside world." In "Friends Forever," Banda captures the beauty of two souls who find the peace of everlasting friendship: "Lovely like a rose, faithful like a diary. Friends from the start-friends till the end of time." For those who are experiencing loneliness or who are just dreaming of better days, Banda's flowing and lyrical style accompanies a strong message of hope that illustrates that no one is ever truly alone.

Book Crying in H Mart

Download or read book Crying in H Mart written by Michelle Zauner and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2021-04-20 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From the indie rock sensation known as Japanese Breakfast, an unforgettable memoir about family, food, grief, love, and growing up Korean American—“in losing her mother and cooking to bring her back to life, Zauner became herself” (NPR). • CELEBRATING OVER ONE YEAR ON THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER LIST In this exquisite story of family, food, grief, and endurance, Michelle Zauner proves herself far more than a dazzling singer, songwriter, and guitarist. With humor and heart, she tells of growing up one of the few Asian American kids at her school in Eugene, Oregon; of struggling with her mother's particular, high expectations of her; of a painful adolescence; of treasured months spent in her grandmother's tiny apartment in Seoul, where she and her mother would bond, late at night, over heaping plates of food. As she grew up, moving to the East Coast for college, finding work in the restaurant industry, and performing gigs with her fledgling band--and meeting the man who would become her husband--her Koreanness began to feel ever more distant, even as she found the life she wanted to live. It was her mother's diagnosis of terminal cancer, when Michelle was twenty-five, that forced a reckoning with her identity and brought her to reclaim the gifts of taste, language, and history her mother had given her. Vivacious and plainspoken, lyrical and honest, Zauner's voice is as radiantly alive on the page as it is onstage. Rich with intimate anecdotes that will resonate widely, and complete with family photos, Crying in H Mart is a book to cherish, share, and reread.

Book excerpt: An excerpt from the foreword by Joni Eareckson Tada: “With the book you are holding, you have stumbled upon the best of guides. I should know. I first read The Cry of the Soul decades ago when I was still sorting through a lot of hurt and frustration connected with my quadriplegia (yes, I read it on that music stand holding a mouth stick). The Cry of the Soul showed me what to do with my anger and hurt—not stuff it under the carpet of my conscience, or minimize it, but actually do something good with it.” All emotion—whether positive or negative—can give us a glimpse of the true nature of God. We want to control our negative emotions and dark desires. God wants us to recognize them as the cry of our soul to be made right with Him. Beginning with the Psalms, Cry of the Soul explores what Scripture says about our darker emotions and points us to ways of honoring God as we faithfully embrace the full range of our emotional life.

Book The Cry of the Teacher s Soul

Download or read book The Cry of the Teacher s Soul written by Laurie R. Matthias and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2015-07-14 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Teaching is hard. External pressures are steadily increasing, leading to high rates of attrition and burnout. Unlike other resources that attempt to address those external factors, The Cry of the Teacher's Soul offers hope by focusing on the key factor of good education: the teacher. It does so by examining the teacher's inner life--mental, emotional, and spiritual. For the Christian teacher, paradoxes in teaching such as idealism/reality and performance/authenticity often parallel similar paradoxes in the Christian faith. By embracing these paradoxes that probe the depths of issues around identity and purpose, the teacher can sustain the difficult vocation of teaching, even thriving instead of just surviving. Each chapter focuses on a cry of the teacher's soul, features a teacher's story that illustrates that cry, and then explores the paradoxes embedded in teaching and in Christianity.

Book Whispers From My Heart

Download or read book Whispers From My Heart written by Cheryl A. Thompson and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2009-10-30 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Whispers From My Heart" is the tale of one woman's journey through the real world where pain, confusion, disappointments, and despair are real, every day occurrences. It voices the anguish the human heart endures in a person termed "Adult Survivor of Childhood Sexual Assault." It echoes the same question on the hearts of everyday people, "Why?", and points to the One with the answer. It is not a self-help book; it is a "God-can-help-you" book that teaches the powerful truth that God is still in the business of delivering His people from bondage, and leading them out of realms of captivity, into their promised land. Cheryl Thompson has been a single mother to Trey, Charlie and Brett since October of 1989. Through the trials of her childhood, and the struggles of single parenthood, Cheryl has learned first hand the importance of a heart attitude toward life and God, and how that attitude impacts a person's soul and relationship with God. She has a passion for the hurting and wounded Bride of Christ. Through her personal knowledge of the compassion of Jesus Christ, Cheryl relays the message of hope, healing and freedom to those who have endured sexual assault. She is a 1983 graduate of Christ For the Nations Institute of Dallas, TX, and currently manages a small real estate company in Southern Illinois. Cheryl is a freelance writer who has been published in the quarterly FaithWriters book, FaithWriters online magazine, and several local newspapers.
