Book THE CROATIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH Was Is And Shall Be

Download or read book THE CROATIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH Was Is And Shall Be written by Croatian Archbishop  Alexander and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-12-03 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For over a century, facts have been silenced, documents and historical monuments falsified, and whole parts of history fabricated, with the aim of creating a glorious Serbo-Yugoslav history, and to demean Croatian history and freedom of thought. The falsifiers made every effort to break the unity of the Croatian people, and thus imposed a model whereby all Orthodox Christians were Serbs. The deepest hidden secret in modern-day democratic Croatia is that the Orthodox faith and Orthodox Church of the Croatian people did indeed exist. This book disproves the accumulated lies, points to facts and historical truth and allows for a better understanding of the historic course of the restoration of the Croatian Orthodox Church. On December 1, 2013, Patriarch Nicolas signed a Tomos granting autocephaly to the Croatian Orthodox Church. This book provides readers with answers to why the Croatian Orthodox Church is unlawfully being prevented registration in the Republic of Croatia.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reporting from the heartland of Yugoslavia in the 1970s, Washington Post correspondent Dusko Doder described "a landscape of Gothic spires, Islamic mosques, and Byzantine domes." A quarter century later, this landscape lay in ruins. In addition to claiming tens of thousands of lives, the former Yugoslavia's four wars ravaged over a thousand religious buildings, many purposefully destroyed by Serbs, Albanians, and Croats alike, providing an apt architectural metaphor for the region's recent history. Rarely has the human impulse toward monocausality--the need for a single explanation--been in greater evidence than in Western attempts to make sense of the country's bloody dissolution. From Robert Kaplan's controversial Balkan Ghosts, which identified entrenched ethnic hatreds as the driving force behind Yugoslavia's demise to NATO's dogged pursuit and arrest of Slobodan Milosevic, the quest for easy answers has frequently served to obscure the Balkans' complex history. Perhaps most surprisingly, no book has focused explicitly on the role religion has played in the conflicts that continue to torment southeastern Europe. Based on a wide range of South Slav sources and previously unpublished, often confidential documents from communist state archives, as well as on the author's own on-the-ground experience, Balkan Idols explores the political role and influence of Serbian Orthodox, Croatian Catholic, and Yugoslav Muslim religious organizations over the course of the last century. Vjekoslav Perica emphatically rejects the notion that a "clash of civilizations" has played a central role in fomenting aggression. He finds no compelling evidence of an upsurge in religious fervor among the general population. Rather, he concludes, the primary religious players in the conflicts have been activist clergy. This activism, Perica argues, allowed the clergy to assume political power without the accountablity faced by democratically-elected officials. What emerges from Perica's account is a deeply nuanced understanding of the history and troubled future of one of Europes most volatile regions.

Download or read book Croatia written by Marcus Tanner and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2010-07-27 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the ashes of former Yugoslavia an independent Croatian state has arisen, the fulfillment, in the words of President Franjo Tudjman, of the Croats' "thousand-year-old dream of independence." Yet few countries in Europe have been born amid such bitter controversy and bloodshed: the savage war between pro-independence forces and the Yugoslav army left about one-third of the country in ruins and resulted in the flight of a quarter of a million of the country's Serbian minority. In this book an eyewitness to the breakup of Yugoslavia provides the first full account of the rise, fall, and rebirth of Croatia from its medieval origins to today's tentative peace. Marcus Tanner describes the creation of the first Croatian state; its absorption into feudal Hungary in the Middle Ages; the catastrophic experience of the Ottoman invasion; the absorption of the diminished country into Habsburg Austria; the evolution of modern Croatian nationalism after the French Revolution; and the circumstances that propelled Croatia into the arms of Nazi Germany and the brutal, home-grown "Ustashe" movement in the Second World War. Finally, drawing on first-hand knowledge of many of the leading figures in the conflict, Tanner explains the failure of Tito's Communists to solve Yugoslavia's tortured national problem by creating a federal state, and the violent implosion after his death.Croatia's unique position on the crossroads of Europe-between Eastern and Western Christendom, the Mediterranean, and the Balkans and between the old Habsburg and Ottoman empires-has been both a curse and a blessing, inviting the attention of larger and more powerful neighbors. The turbulence and drama of Croatia's past are vigorously portrayed in this powerful history.
