Download or read book Cryogenic Valves for Liquefied Natural Gas Plants written by Karan Sotoodeh and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2022-05-18 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) continue to grow as a part of the sustainable energy mix. While oil and gas companies look to lower emissions, one key refinery component that contributes up to 60% of emissions are valves, mainly due to poor design, sealing, and testing. Cryogenic Valves for Liquefied Natural Gas Plants delivers a much-needed reference that focuses on the design, testing, maintenance, material selection, and standards needed to stay environmentally compliant at natural gas refineries. Covering technical definitions, case studies, and Q&A, the reference includes all ranges of natural gas compounds, including LPG, CNG, NGL, and PNG. Key design considerations are included that are specific for cryogenic services, including a case study on cryogenic butterfly valves. The material selection process can be more complex for cryogenic services, so the author goes into more detail about materials that adhere to cryogenic temperature resistance. Most importantly, testing of valves is covered in depth, including shell test, closure or seat test, and thermal shock tests, along with tactics on how to prevent dangerous cryogenic leaks, which are very harmful to the environment. The book is a vital resource for today's natural gas engineers. - Teaches LNG valve design, including sealing selection, wall thickness calculation of the valve body and bonnet, and proper material selection - Provides tactics on how to prevent cryogenic leaks with compliant valve testing - Applies natural gas calculations that will better support the LNG supply chain - Enables readers to understand cryogenic valve standards, including EN, ISO, and MSS SP

Download or read book Underground Storage of Natural Gas written by M.R. Tek and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the proceedings of NATO Advanced Study Institute, 'Underground Storage of Natural Gas - Theory and Practice', which was held at The Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey during 2-10 May 1988. Underground storage is the process which effectively balances a variable demand market with a desirably constant supply provided by pipelines. Storage reservoirs are the unique warehouses designed and developed to provide a ready supply of natural gas in response to high, peak demands during cold weather. The natural' gas is injected into the underground storage environment when the market demand falls below the supply available from the pipeline. It is withdrawn from the storage reservoir to supplement the steady supply provided by the pipelines whenever the demand exceeds the supply. The overall wellbeing of the entire western world in general and of the NATO member count ries in particular depend critically upon having sufficient energy resources. Of over 80 quad Btus of energy consumed each year in the western world, about 30~ comes from natural gas, a figure only exceeded by oil. The technology related to supply and demand of natural gas has been in the focus of long range energy planning during the last decade in Western Europe. In view of recent developments related to natural gas in Europe and Turkey, an "Advanced Study Institute" programme in Turkey on underground storage of natural gas was deemed particularly relevant and timely.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is a commercially attractive phase of the commodity that facilitates the efficient handling and transportation of natural gas around the world. The LNG industry, using technologies proven over decades of development, continues to expand its markets, diversify its supply chains and increase its share of the global natural gas trade. The Handbook of Liquefied Natural Gas is a timely book as the industry is currently developing new large sources of supply and the technologies have evolved in recent years to enable offshore infrastructure to develop and handle resources in more remote and harsher environments. It is the only book of its kind, covering the many aspects of the LNG supply chain from liquefaction to regasification by addressing the LNG industries' fundamentals and markets, as well as detailed engineering and design principles. A unique, well-documented, and forward-thinking work, this reference book provides an ideal platform for scientists, engineers, and other professionals involved in the LNG industry to gain a better understanding of the key basic and advanced topics relevant to LNG projects in operation and/or in planning and development. - Highlights the developments in the natural gas liquefaction industries and the challenges in meeting environmental regulations - Provides guidelines in utilizing the full potential of LNG assets - Offers advices on LNG plant design and operation based on proven practices and design experience - Emphasizes technology selection and innovation with focus on a "fit-for-purpose design - Updates code and regulation, safety, and security requirements for LNG applications

Download or read book Advances in Cryogenic Engineering written by K. D. Timmerhaus and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-12-20 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1971 marked the first year since 1956 that the annual Cryogenic Engineering Conference was not held. Instead, the Cryogenic Engineering Conference gave its full support to the XIII International Congress of Refrigeration by working with Commissions I and II of the International Institute of Refrigeration to organize the cryogenic sessions for these two commissions. All of the papers presented at the International Congress of Refrigeration will be published by the IIR as part of the proceedings of that meeting. Even though no Cryogenic Engineering Conference was held in 1971, it became quite evident to the Conference Board that there were sufficient advances in cryogenic engineering to warrant the publication of Volume 17 of the Advances in Cryogenic Engineering. Volume 17 presents the advances in this important field by bringing together in one volume some of the significant papers that have been presented at various technical meetings across the country during the latter half of 1970 and the first part of 1971. In addition, several authoritative review papers have been prepared by invitation of the Cryogenic Engineering Conference Board.
Download or read book Stratification Rollover and Handling of LNG LPG and Other Cryogenic Liquid Mixtures written by Ralph G. Scurlock and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-11-20 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This short, practical book offers advice on the safe storage, handling and transportation of liquid natural gas (LNG), liquid petroleum gas (LPG) and other cryogenic fluid mixtures. It begins with a review of the physical properties of LNG and LPG, and a brief overview of basic handling and storage methods. The chapters that follow address more in-depth topics such as heat flows in LNG and LPG storage systems, insulation techniques and surface evaporation phenomena. Two chapters are then devoted to the specific sequence of problems caused by stratification and rollover, and the techniques used to manage and alleviate these issues. The book then considers the use of vacuum insulated tanks for the storage of pressurised LNG, and the effective transfer of liquids avoiding 2-phase flow. It concludes with a summary of safe storage and handling protocols, and addresses the specific health issues encountered when dealing with cryogenic liquid mixtures. Throughout the book the author presents real-life case studies to illustrate the situation being discussed. Written in a practical style, it will prove an invaluable companion to anyone working with LNG, LPG or other cryogenic liquid mixtures.
