Book The Convert and the Counsellor

Download or read book The Convert and the Counsellor written by Okechukwu Onuzo and published by . This book was released on 2020-09-18 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quite a few people are curios about the Christian life. Some just want to understand it in a simple way before making up their mind. There are those who have just come into it and are trying to figure it out. Then there are also those who have been in it for a while but still have some difficulty saying exactly what it is they believe. On the other side are those who are doing the explaining and counselling all the time who need to be sure that they have not left anything out, which the young believer needs to know. Since it was first published in 1990, over 15 thousand copies have been sold or distributed to young believers and their counsellors. This 3rd edition has been extensively revised and new materials added to ensure that every believer in Christ is standing on a solid foundation. The style is unique and like many have testified, it anticipates the question on the lips of the counsellee and provides the answer. My prayer is that those who read this book will be helped to grasp the fundamentals of their faith and may in turn rise to help others. The greatest testimony I have heard is the gentleman who got a copy as a gift in a meeting organized by Full Gospel Business Men in Lagos. He read it three times and started a discipleship group in his Church. May that be the testimony of every reader to the glory of God, Amen.

Download or read book Preaching the Converted written by Samantha Zacher and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2009-05-16 with total page 1106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Vercelli Book is one of the oldest surviving collections of Old English homilies and poems, compiled in England in the tenth century. Preaching the Converted provides a sustained literary analysis of the book's prose homilies and demonstrates that they employ rhetorical techniques commonly associated with vernacular verse. The study argues that the dazzling textual complexity of these homilies rivals the most accomplished examples of Old English poetry. Highlighting the use of word play, verbal and structural repetition, elaborate catalogues, and figurative language, Samantha Zacher's study of the Vercelli Book fills a gap in the history of English preaching by foregrounding the significance of these prose homilies as an intermediary form. Also analyzing the Latin and vernacular sources behind the Vercelli texts to reveal the theological and formal interests informing the collection as a whole, Preaching the Converted is a rigorous examination of Old English homiletic rhetoric and poetics.

Book Difference and Discrimination in Psychotherapy and Counselling

Download or read book Difference and Discrimination in Psychotherapy and Counselling written by Sue Marshall and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2004-06-22 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Prejudice is, for good or ill, a part of our nature. It is instilled in us from birth onwards. All we can hope to do is to combat it, and the first tool in our armoury must be that of awareness. Without this, it is very difficult, perhaps impossible, for the psychotherapist or counsellor to explore how it might be influencing the psychotherapy relationship. Sue Marshall has, in this book, performed a valuable task in that direction, and has done in it very cogently in a most difficult area. I applaud her' - Joe Sinclair, Nurturing Potential Difference, prejudice and discrimination are issues which all counsellors and psychotherapists need to address as part of their personal and professional development. Designed to support training on these complex issues, Difference & Discrimination in Counselling & Psychotherapy helps therapists understand the experience of discrimination, as well as explore their own - often unconscious - attitudes to others, based on gender, sexuality, race, culture or mental health. For most therapists an attitude of acceptance and non-judgmentalism is fundamental to their view of practice. However, in seeking to be non-judgmental, therapists may run the risk of concealing their own prejudices. It is only by facing up to these attitudes and exploring them that therapists are able to fully relate to their clients and help them effectively. Synthesising sociological knowledge with her experience of a practitioner, Sue Marshall powerfully demonstrates both the importance and the practicalities of developing awareness about difference. Difference & Discrimination in Counselling & Psychotherapy offers a straightforward approach to some of the most difficult issues relating to practice, making it an ideal text for use in training and for qualified therapists continuing their professional development.
