Book excerpt: The Consecrated Way to Christian Perfection, written by A. T. Jones, is an exposition of the work of Christ as our High Priest as relating to the perfection of Christian character. A. T. Jones and E. J. Waggoner presented this message to the 1888 Minneapolis General Conference Session of Seventh-day Adventists. Their message met resistance from leaders such as G. I. Butler, Uriah Smith and others. The session discussed crucial theological issues such as the meaning of "righteousness by faith," and the nature of the Godhead, and the relationship between law and grace. Ellen White supported Waggoner's Christ centered view on justification by faith and their refutation of Arianism, and later wrote that she had been teaching for "forty-five years" this same message as Jones and Waggoner presented at that session.

Book The Consecrated Way Classic Reprint

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Consecrated Way Every man who has made it the business of his life to direct inquiring minds to the Savior, or point them to the way consecrated by Christ, must have found from experience, that the moment the mind becomes seriously engaged with the inquiry, "What must I do to be saved?" difficulties, arising from a misapprehension of some of the great doctrines of religion, will immediately present themselves, interposing serious obstacles in the way of salvation. We have many books which serve as useful guides to such as are willing to abandon all false systems of philosophy, and follow implicitly the direction of those who have kindly volunteered their services as spiritual guides; but few of these are doctrinal enough to meet the wants of that large class of serious minds who must perceive the ground upon which they stand, ere they will take a single step in the heavenward road. Nor should we regard such demands as unreasonable; for the Being who created us has constituted the intellect as the guide, by the perceptions of which the affections are to be directed to a proper object of love. Book The Consecrated Way to Christian Perfection

Download or read book The Consecrated Way to Christian Perfection written by Alonzo Trevier Jones and published by . This book was released on 2020-06-02 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was first published in 1905, with 129 pages, by Pacific Press Publishing Company, Mountain View, California. Its emphasis is on the Scriptures' presentation of the three offices of Christ as prophet, priest, and king."Of Him as prophet it was written in the days of Moses: 'I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put My words in His mouth; and He shall speak unto them all that I shall command Him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto My words which He shall speak in My name, I will require it of him.' Deut. 18:18,19. And this thought was continued in the succeeding scriptures until His coming. "Of Him as priest it was written in the days of David: 'Yet have I set ['anointed, ' margin] My King upon My holy hill of Zion.' Ps. 2:6. And this thought, likewise, was continued in all the scriptures afterward unto His coming, after His coming, and unto the end of the Book. "Thus the Scriptures abundantly present Him in the three offices of prophet, priest, and king. {4}"This threefold truth is generally recognized by all who have acquaintance with the Scriptures, but above this there is the truth which seems to be not so well known-that He is not all three of these at the same time. The three offices are successive. He is prophet first, then after that He is priest, and after that He is king. . . ."Not only are His three offices of prophet, priest, and king successive, but they are successive for a purpose. And they are successive for a purpose in the exact order of the succession as given-prophet, {8} priest, and king. His office as prophet was preparatory and essential to His office as priest; and His offices of prophet and priest, in order, are preparatory to His office as king. "And to us the consideration of Him in these offices in their order is essential. "We must consider Him in His office as prophet, not only in order that we may be taught by Him who spake as never man spake, but also that we shall be able properly to consider Him in His office as priest. "And we must consider Him in His office as priest, not only that we may have the infinite benefit of His priesthood, but also that we shall be prepared for what we are to be. For it is written: 'They shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.' Rev. 20:6. "And having considered Him in His office of prophet as preparatory to our properly considering Him in His office as priest, it is essential that we consider Him in His office as priest in order that we shall be able to consider Him in His office as king; that is, in order that we shall be with Him there and reign with Him there. For even of us it is written: 'The saints of the Most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom forever, even forever and ever, ' and 'they shall reign forever and ever.' Dan. 7:18; Rev. 22:5. "His priesthood being the present office and work of Christ, this having been His office and work ever since His ascension to heaven, Christ in His priesthood is the all-important study for all Christians, as well as for all other people." Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 2015 has been ; deemed the Year of the Consecrated Life by Pope Francis, ; this work by Cardinal Arinze is a very timely one-for this ; year, and for any time. A reflection on the consecrated ; life, Radical Discipleship represents a beautiful ; way for faithful Catholics to participate in this ; Church-wide theme and celebration by coming to a deeper ; understanding of the consecrated life. Radical ; Discipleship illuminates the vocation of the ; consecrated state and its presence in the Body of Christ, ; beginning with a brief look at its origins in Scripture and ; the early Church. The work then reflects upon the ; following: The different forms this radical ; life takes The population of consecrated persons ; in the Church today The recognition that the ; consecrated life has received from the Church The ; vows of Poverty, Chastity and Obedience taken by all ; consecrated persons Community life as it pertains ; to consecrated life The prophetic aspect of the ; consecrated life The impact of the consecrated ; state on the Church community and on ; society Alongside these fascinating topics, ; Cardinal Arinze addresses some of the problems faced by ; consecrated people, and how these difficulties have led ; some to abandon this vocation. In examining the struggles ; specific to the consecrated state, the Cardinal seeks to ; encourage other consecrated persons to persevere in their ; vocation. He further calls the entire Church to support the ; consecrated life and those who have dedicated themselves to ; Christ in this way. Although filled with substantive ; information, even the most involved sections are presented ; in an engaging, readable and reflective style. The book is ; not, as the Cardinal explains, "a dissertation based on ; deep research on the theology and canon law on the ; consecrated life". Radical Discipleship is ; rather a reflection, written for consecrated people, other ; laity and clergy alike, and offers wonderful material for ; thought and prayer. It is Cardinal Arinze's hope that his ; work will make the consecrated life "better understood, ; loved, lived and promoted".
