Book Stark s Conjectures Recent Work and New Directions

Download or read book Stark s Conjectures Recent Work and New Directions written by David Burns and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2004 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stark's conjectures on the behavior of USDLUSD-functions were formulated in the 1970s. Since then, these conjectures and their generalizations have been actively investigated. This has led to significant progress in algebraic number theory. The current volume, based on the conference held at Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, MD), represents the state-of-the-art research in this area. The first four survey papers provide an introduction to a majority of the recent work related to themes currently under exploration in the area, such as non-abelian and USDpUSD-adic aspects of the conjectures, abelian refinements, etc. Among others, some important contributors to the volume include Harold M. Stark, John Tate, and interested in number theory.

Book excerpt: These Proceedings contain 22 refereed research and survey articles based on lectures given at the Turku Symposium on Number Theory in Memory of Kustaa Inkeri, held in Turku, Finland, from May 31 to June 4, 1999. The subject of the symposium was number theory in a broad sense with an emphasis on recent advances and modern methods. The topics covered in this volume include various questions in elementary number theory, new developments in classical Diophantine problems - in particular of the Fermat and Catalan type, the ABC-conjecture, arithmetic algebraic geometry, elliptic curves, Diophantine approximations, Abelian fields, exponential sums, sieve methods, box splines, the Riemann zeta-function and other Dirichlet series, and the spectral theory of automorphic functions with its arithmetical applications.

Book Non abelian Fundamental Groups and Iwasawa Theory

Download or read book Non abelian Fundamental Groups and Iwasawa Theory written by John Coates and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-12-15 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the interaction between several key aspects of Galois theory based on Iwasawa theory, fundamental groups and automorphic forms. These ideas encompass a large portion of mainstream number theory and ramifications that are of interest to graduate students and researchers in number theory, algebraic geometry, topology and physics.

Book On the Values of Derivatives of Dirichlet and Hasse Weil L functions

Download or read book On the Values of Derivatives of Dirichlet and Hasse Weil L functions written by Daniel Macias Castillo and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We study explicit consequences of the assumed validity of the Equivariant Tamagawa Number Conjecture of Burns and Flach for special values of higher-order derivatives of both Dirichlet L-functions (in the setting of Tate motives) and Hasse-Weil L-functions (in the setting of motives which arise from elliptic curves). -- In the setting of Tate motives, we discuss an explicit refinement of Rubin's integral version of Stark's Conjecture. We prove that this refinement is a consequence of the relevant case of the ETNC, thereby obtaining a full proof in several important cases. We also derive several explicit consequences of this refinement concerning the annihilation as Galois modules of ideal class groups by explicit elements constructed from the values at s = 0 of higher order derivatives of Dirichlet L-functions. We then describe the relation between our refinement and those found in recent work of Em-mons and Popescu and of Buckingham. We finally provide unconditional evidence for these refinements in certain particular cases. -- In the setting of elliptic curves, we refine and extend recent predictions of Kisilevsky and Fearnley concerning the values at s = I of the derivatives of twisted Hasse-Weil L-functions associated to an elliptic curve E defined over Q and a cyclic extension of prime-power degree K of Q. Our conjectures include explicit bounds on the denominators of the conjecturally rational elements of Fearnley and Kisilevsky, and explicit integral congruences relating these elements to a naturally constructed algebraic discriminant. We also prove that the relevant case of the ETNC implies our set of predictions.
