Book excerpt: Handbook of Flotation Reagents: Chemistry, Theory and Practice is a condensed form of the fundamental knowledge of chemical reagents commonly used in flotation and is addressed to the researchers and plant metallurgists who employ these reagents. Consisting of three distinct parts: 1) provides detailed description of the chemistry used in mineral processing industry; 2) describes theoretical aspects of the action of flotation reagents 3) provides information on the use of reagents in over 100 operating plants treating Cu, Cu/Zn, Cu/Pb, Zn, Pb/Zn/Ag, Cu/Ni and Ni ores. * Looks at the theoretical aspects of flotation reagents * Examines the practical aspects of using chemical reagents in operating plants * Provides guidelines for researchers and engineers involved in process design and development

Book Concentration of Ores by Flotation

Download or read book Concentration of Ores by Flotation written by John Gay Reilly and published by . This book was released on 1917 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Flotation is a new step in the separation of valuable minerals from gangue. This process has only been in commercial use for about six years. There has been several theories advances as to how the ore is concentrated, and the theory that is now usually accepted is that the oil covers or wets the sulphide mineral particle and does not the gangue; and this mineral particle, by means of induced aid is concentrated on the surface. The authors of this thesis have not attempted to explain the reason or reasons why minerals will float; but have accepted the theories advanced by men far more capable, but we have worked on the assumption that sphalerite, the sulphide of zinc, according to all flotation theory will float, so our problem narrowed down to one fact which can be stated in the one word - How"--Leaf 1.

Book A Manual of Flotation Processes Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Manual of Flotation Processes Classic Reprint written by Arthur F. Taggart and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of Flotation Processes Flotation concentration includes within its scope almost as many processes as all other methods of ore concentration combined, the only elements common to all the processes being selection, or concentration, and separation of the concentrate from the tailing by flotation of the former. Widespread understanding of the physical principles underlying flotation phenomena and of the diversity of flotation processes has been delayed for divers reasons. The apparent complexity of the phenomena and the difficulties of investigation are sufficient to explain some of the delay, but much of it is chargeable to the stand of patent-owning corporations in their attempt to establish a monopoly on flotation processes. These companies have steadfastly opposed dissemination of knowledge of the art by their employees and licensees, notwithstanding the moral and legal duty of a patentee to make full and truthful disclosure of all he knows concerning the subject matter of his patent; by threats of litigation sown broadcast they have succeeded in causing a veil of secrecy to surround the operations of non-licensees; and by their unfounded claims that all flotation processes prior to that described in U.S. Patent 835, 120 were laboratory curiosities or commercial failures, and that those subsequently discovered were merely improvements of that process, they have caused the spread of wrong ideas on the part of many of those interested. Book Selective Concentration of a Complex Ore by Flotation

Download or read book Selective Concentration of a Complex Ore by Flotation written by Paul Frederick Pape and published by . This book was released on 1917 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The problem of the Mining Engineer and Metallurgical Engineer who wishes to treat the slimes and fine sands of a complex ore is the recovery and separation of minerals so as to render a subsequent treatment of any mineral profitable. The minerals must be separated into groups which can be treated by different processes, because a combination of numerous minerals is extremely undesirable at the smelting plant. In a lead ore the presence of zinc often depletes its value to such an extent that it is unprofitable to treat it; likewise with other minerals and ores. Many systems of selective separation of slimes and fine sand have been tried but with little success. The latest attempt towards this end has been by means of the flotation process. The eagerness to separate the minerals of a complex sulphide ore is seen in a retrospection of the great number of patents that have been issued. These patents bring into consideration, a vast number of chemical solutions which are used as selectors in the flotation process. The object of our experiment work was to find the best method of selective flotation adaptable to a particulate ore at hand"--Introduction, leaf [3].

Book excerpt: This book was written to provide a comprehensive survey of the current state-of-the-art information in coal preparation, with particular emphasis on coal desulfrization. The primary audience for this book will be practising coal preparation engineers who need complete information about all of the coal preparation and desulphurization technologies that are available now, or that may be available in the future. It will also be valuable for coal researchers who need details and comparative data for cutting-edge technologies that are still under development. The main emphasis is on physical coal preparation, but chapters also include chemical and biological technologies that are under development, but not yet used in industrial practice. Along with the successful technologies, also included are details of processes and techniques that were attempted, but were subsequently abandoned, along with discussions of the reasons they were abandoned.

Book Comprehensive Treatise of Electrochemistry

Download or read book Comprehensive Treatise of Electrochemistry written by John Bockris and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is now time for a comprehensive treatise to look at the whole field of electrochemistry. The present treatise was conceived in 1974, and the earliest invitations to authors for contributions were made in 1975. The completion of the early volumes has been delayed by various factors. There has been no attempt to make each article emphasize the most recent situation at the expense of an overall statement of the modern view. This treatise is not a collection of articles from Recent Advances in Electrochemistry or Modern Aspects of Electrochemistry. It is an attempt at making a mature statement about the present position in the vast area of what is best looked at as a new interdisciplinary field. Texas A & M University J. O'M. Bockris University of Ottawa B. E. Conway Case Western Reserve University Ernest Yeager & M University Texas A Ralph E. White Preface to Volume 2 This volume brings together some dozen processes well known to the electro chemist and treats them according to their various degrees of importance. The production of hydrogen is one of the more important processes, particularly with respect to the prospects of a hydrogen economy. No one would doubt, however, that the most commercially important electrochemical processes at the present time are the production of aluminum and of chlorine. Each of these processes has a separate chapter devoted to it.
