Download or read book Dalmatian written by Frances Camp and published by Fox Chapel Publishing. This book was released on 2012-01-24 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Judged and recognized by his spots, the Dalmatian is unmistakable among purebred dogs, a versatile, intelligent breed distinguished by his perfectly spotted coat (black or liver on a solid white background). From coach dog and firehouse mascot to Hollywood star and stunt dog, the Dalmatian enjoys being the center of attention and seems to be able to do it all. This Comprehensive Owner's Guide presents a realistic portrayal of this demanding purebred dog, whose energy and training demands are far beyond the scope and ability of most first-time owners. Due to the popularity of the famous Disney films, Dalmatians have long been the most likely "impulse buy" in the dog world, which has led to many Dalmatians being abandoned in shelters. The author, Frances Camp does well to give the reader perspective on the handsome, but high-energy companion dog that develops from the squirmy puppy on the silver screen. The first chapter on the history of the Dalmatian discusses the breed's evolution, the origins of the spotted coat, and how it became so popular in Europe and America.New owners will welcome the well-prepared chapter on finding a reputable breeder and selecting a healthy, sound puppy. Chapters on puppy-proofing the home and yard, purchasing the right supplies for the puppy as well as house-training, feeding, and grooming are illustrated with photographs of handsome adults and puppies. In all, there are over 135 full-color photographs in this useful and reliable volume. The author's advice on obedience training will help the reader better mold and train into the most well-mannered dog in the neighborhood. The extensive and lavishly illustrated chapter on healthcare provides up-to-date detailed information on selecting a qualified veterinarian, vaccinations, preventing and dealing with parasites, infectious diseases, and more. Sidebars throughout the text offer helpful hints, covering topics as diverse as historical dogs, breeders, or kennels, toxic plants, first aid, crate training, carsickness, fussy eaters, and parasite control. Fully indexed.

Book excerpt: Dalmatian Training - Dog Training for your Dalmatian puppy The training of dogs is often... ... confused with classical dog training drills ... only considered necessary for demanding dogs ... mocked by other dog owners ... replaced by anti-authoritarian methods ... considered too difficult to achieve without experience. What constitutes dog training and what is it good for? And how can you and your Dalmatian profit from it without having any experience? The most important thing is to understand how a dog sees his world, what is "normal" for him and how you can use this to your advantage. In addition, the characteristics of each breed are significant when you get beyond the basic training phase. Your Dalmatian will show characteristics which are different to those of a Husky, for example, and this is predominantly what you need to consider during training. Author Claudia Kaiser says about her book: "It was my desire to let other dog owners profit from the knowledge I have gained over many years, and after making many mistakes. I love my dog and know how important it is to adapt the training to suit each breed. It is exactly this desire that prompted me to write this book. My aim is to help every beginner, not only to understand his dog better, but also to know exactly how to get the best results, step-by-step, so that you can achieve a close, positive and trusting human-dog relationship." Quench your curiosity to know about background information, read reports on other experiences and obtain step-by-step instructions and secret tips which are tailor-made for your Dalmatian. Get your copy of this book today and experience... ... how your Dalmatian sees his world ... and how you can progressively train your dog to receive the best results. Your Dalmatian will appreciate it... ... so this is my advice: Don't hesitate to buy this book! Content of this book: About the Author Preface What you need to know about your Dalmatian Cornerstones of training puppies Before the puppy arrives The first few weeks The first commands Training basic knowledge Special Chapter - The hunting instinct Conclusion

Book excerpt: A Dalmatian is a remarkable breed of dog recognized for its striking black or liver-colored spots on a white coat. The distinctive appearance of these canines has made them popular among pet owners and admirers alike. Dalmatians tend to be around medium size and have an athletic frame. They have a reputation for being lively and humorous. Dalmatians have been around for a long time and have served several functions. They were initially developed as carriage dogs, which means they would trot alongside horse-drawn carriages to guard them and keep them safe from attacks. They could travel great distances with ease because of their robust and nimble build. The Dalmatian breed and its distinctive appearance became more well-known in the public eye because to the work of Pongo and Perdita, two of the main characters in the Disney animated film "101 Dalmatians." Dalmatians are well-known for their gregarious and friendly natures, but their high levels of energy and curiosity mean they may need regular exercise and mental stimulation. They make wonderful companions if properly trained and socialized.

Download or read book The Dalmatian A Complete and Comprehensive Owners Guide To Buying Owning Health Grooming Training Obedience Understanding and written by Michael Stonewood and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-03-29 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dalmatian is a large breed of dog that originates from Croatia. The breed is most noted for its highly unique black, or liver, spotted coat which has earned the breed the nicknames of 'Plum Pudding Dog' and the 'Leopard Carriage Dog.' Despite the breed originating from Croatia, the Dalmatian was mainly developed and cultivated in the United Kingdom. In 1890 the United Kingdom was the first country to actually have an official Dalmatian club and breed standard. The Dalmatian were originally used for a plethora of different tasks: as dogs of war, as guard dogs and as companion dogs. The modern day Dalmatian still has a high instinct to guard its owners and will be friendly and loyal to people it knows but often aloof with strangers and unknown dogs. In the early 1900s, the Dalmatian started to be used in sporting hunts as was used as a bird dog, trail hound, a retriever and in packs to hunt wild boar or stags. It was discovered that Dalmatians and horses are very compatible, and the Dalmatian soon was used to run in front of horse drawn carriages to clear a path for the horses. As the breed's large amount of working roles suggests, the Dalmatian is a highly adaptable and intelligent breed that is capable of being trained to do nearly any job. The Dalmatian is born with a solid white coat and they slowly develop their characteristic spots at around 3 to 4 weeks old - after about a month or two they have developed most of their spots. Most Dalmatian are born with a smooth short coat that sheds continuously throughout the year. However it is not uncommon for a Dalmatian to be born with a long haired coat - interestingly the long haired Dalmatians shed considerably less than their short haired counterparts. As a whole the Dalmatian is a highly intelligent and affectionate breed that thrives both in working environments and household environments. It is important to well socialize your Dalmatian during its puppyhood to make it less suspicious and aloof with strangers and unknown dogs. Before purchasing any pet it is important to understand that as a pet owner you are responsible for the care and wellbeing of your pet. It is important to try and learn as much as you can about the animal you are considering to keep as a pet to make sure that your lifestyle, household and financial status are suited to provide your pet with the best possible care. This guide has been designed to provide you with both precise and concise information about a Dalmatian's basic needs to help you provide your pet with the best quality care practices. This guide will give an in-depth explanation on training your Dalmatian, raising your Dalmatian from a puppy, grooming, health care and everything in between! "The Dalmatian: A Complete and Comprehensive Owners Guide to: Buying, Owning, Health, Grooming, Training, Obedience, Understanding and Caring for Your Dalmatian," by Michael Stonewood is the perfect purchase or gift for a first time Dalmatian owner.
