Book The Commutant Lifting Approach to Interpolation Problems

Download or read book The Commutant Lifting Approach to Interpolation Problems written by Foias and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 647 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Classical H interpolation theory was conceived at the beginning of the century by C. Caratheodory, L. Fejer and I. Schur. The basic method, due to Schur, in solving these problems consists in applying the Mobius transform to peel off the data. In 1967, D. Sarason encompassed these classical interpolation problems in a representation theorem of operators commuting with special contractions. Shortly after that, in 1968, B. Sz. Nagy and C. Foias obtained a purely geometrical extension of Sarason's results. Actually, their result states that operators intertwining restrictions of co-isometries can be extended, by preserving their norm, to operators intertwining these co-isometries; starring with R. G. Douglas, P. S. Muhly and C. Pearcy, this is referred to as the commutant lifting theorem. In 1957, Z. Nehari considered an L interpolation problern which in turn encompassed the same classical interpolation problems, as well as the computation of the distance of a function f in L to H . At about the sametime as Sarason's work, V. M."

Book Metric Constrained Interpolation Commutant Lifting and Systems

Download or read book Metric Constrained Interpolation Commutant Lifting and Systems written by C. Foias and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 587 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a unified approach for solving both stationary and nonstationary interpolation problems, in finite or infinite dimensions, based on the commutant lifting theorem from operator theory and the state space method from mathematical system theory. Initially the authors planned a number of papers treating nonstationary interpolation problems of Nevanlinna-Pick and Nehari type by reducing these nonstationary problems to stationary ones for operator-valued functions with operator arguments and using classical commutant lifting techniques. This reduction method required us to review and further develop the classical results for the stationary problems in this more general framework. Here the system theory turned out to be very useful for setting up the problems and for providing natural state space formulas for describing the solutions. In this way our work involved us in a much wider program than original planned. The final results of our efforts are presented here. The financial support in 1994 from the "NWO-stimulansprogramma" for the Thomas Stieltjes Institute for Mathematics in the Netherlands enabled us to start the research which lead to the present book. We also gratefully acknowledge the support from our home institutions: Indiana University at Bloomington, Purdue University at West Lafayette, Tel-Aviv University, and the Vrije Universiteit at Amsterdam. We warmly thank Dr. A.L. Sakhnovich for his carefully reading of a large part of the manuscript. Finally, Sharon Wise prepared very efficiently and with great care the troff file of this manuscript; we are grateful for her excellent typing.

Book Interpolation Schur Functions and Moment Problems

Book Classical Control Using H Infinity Methods

Download or read book Classical Control Using H Infinity Methods written by J. William Helton and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This versatile book teaches control system design using H-Infinity techniques that are simple and compatible with classical control, yet powerful enough to quickly allow the solution of physically meaningful problems. The authors begin by teaching how to formulate control system design problems as mathematical optimization problems and then discuss the theory and numerics for these optimization problems. Their approach is simple and direct, and since the book is modular, the parts on theory can be read independently of the design parts and vice versa, allowing readers to enjoy the book on many levels. Until now, there has not been a publication suitable for teaching the topic at the undergraduate level. This book fills that gap by teaching control system design using H^\infty techniques at a level within reach of the typical engineering and mathematics student. It also contains a readable account of recent developments and mathematical connections.

Book Linear Systems and Control

Download or read book Linear Systems and Control written by Martin J. Corless and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003-03-27 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based largely on state space models, this text/reference utilizes fundamental linear algebra and operator techniques to develop classical and modern results in linear systems analysis and control design. It presents stability and performance results for linear systems, provides a geometric perspective on controllability and observability, and develops state space realizations of transfer functions. It also studies stabilizability and detectability, constructs state feedback controllers and asymptotic state estimators, covers the linear quadratic regulator problem in detail, introduces H-infinity control, and presents results on Hamiltonian matrices and Riccati equations.

Book Operator Extensions Interpolation of Functions and Related Topics

Download or read book Operator Extensions Interpolation of Functions and Related Topics written by A. Gheondea and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1976 the Institute of Mathematics of the Romanian Academy (formerly the Department of Mathematics of INCREST) and the Faculty of Mathematics (formerly the Faculty of Sciences) of the University ofTimi~oara have organized several Con ferences on Operator Theory. These Conferences were held yearly in Timi~oara (or in Timi~oara and Herculane) and beginning with 1985 they were held in Bucharest (1985,1986), in Timi~oara (1988) and in Predeal (1990). At the beginning, these Conferences answered the need of a part of the Romanian Mathematical Community ofexploring other forms of survival, after the dissolution of the Institute of Mathematics in 1975. Soon, these meetings evolved to International Conferences with a broad participation and where important results in Operator Theory and Operator Algebras and their interplay with Complex Function Theory, Differential Equations, Mathematical Physics, System Theory, etc. were presented. The 14th Conference on Operator Theory was held between June 1st and June 5th 1992, at the University ofTimi~oara. It was partially supported by the Institute of Mathematics of the Romanian Academy and by the Faculty of Mathematics of the University ofTimi~oara. Another important contribution towards covering the costs of this meeting came from The Soros Foundation for an Open Society. Without this generous help the organizing of this event would be impossible. Since 1980, the Proceedings of OT Conferences were published by Birkhauser Verlag in the series Operator Theory: Advances and Applications. The abstracts of the talks were collected in the Conference Report, published by the University of Timi~oara.

Book Schur Parameters Factorization and Dilation Problems

Download or read book Schur Parameters Factorization and Dilation Problems written by Tiberiu Constantinescu and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the ubiquity of the Schur parameters. A dilation theoretic view leads to a unified perspective on several topics where Schur parameters appear as basic cells. Together with the transmission line, their physical counter- part, they appear in scattering theory, in modeling, prediction and filtering of nonstationary processes, in signal processing, geophysics and system theory. Modeling problems are considered for certain classes of operators, interpolation problems, determinental formulae, as well as connections with certain classes of graphs where, again, the Schur parameters could play a role. Some general algorithms that explore the transmission line are also presented in this book. As a whole, the text is self-contained and it is addressed to people interested in the previously mentioned topics or connections between them.

Book Interpolation Theory and Its Applications

Download or read book Interpolation Theory and Its Applications written by Lev A. Sakhnovich and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1. Interpolation problems play an important role both in theoretical and applied investigations. This explains the great number of works dedicated to classical and new interpolation problems ([1)-[5], [8), [13)-[16], [26)-[30], [57]). In this book we use a method of operator identities for investigating interpo lation problems. Following the method of operator identities we formulate a general interpolation problem containing the classical interpolation problems (Nevanlinna Pick, Caratheodory, Schur, Humburger, Krein) as particular cases. We write down the abstract form of the Potapov inequality. By solving this inequality we give the description of the set of solutions of the general interpolation problem in the terms of the linear-fractional transformation. Then we apply the obtained general results to a number of classical and new interpolation problems. Some chapters of the book are dedicated to the application of the interpola tion theory results to several other problems (the extension problem, generalized stationary processes, spectral theory, nonlinear integrable equations, functions with operator arguments). 2. Now we shall proceed to a more detailed description of the book contents.
