Download or read book College Cooking written by Megan Carle and published by Ten Speed Press. This book was released on 2011-02-09 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You have a midterm tomorrow and a fierce growl in your stomach. Your roommate just nabbed your last cup o' ramen. Do you: (A) Ignore your stomach and brew another pot of coffee? (B) Break out the PB&J? (C) Order pizza—again? (D) Make a quick trip to the grocery store? The answer's D, and College Cooking is the only study guide you'll need. Sisters Megan and Jill Carle know all about leaving a well-stocked kitchen to face an empty apartment fridge with little time to cook and very little money. They practically grew up in their parents' kitchen, but even that didn't prepare them for braving the supermarket aisles on their own. That's why they wrote COLLEGE COOKING—to share the tips and tricks they've learned while feeding themselves between late-night studying, papers, parties, and other distractions. Starting with kitchen basics, Megan and Jill first cover ingredients, equipment, and other prereqs for cooking a decent meal. They then provide more than ninety simple yet tasteworthy recipes—hearty home-style dishes, study-break snacks, healthy salads, sweet treats, and more (along with low-cal and veggie options). You'll find easy and cheap-to-make dishes, like: Tortilla Soup • Chili with Green Chile Cornbread • Chicken Salad Pita Sandwiches • Baked Penne Pasta with Italian Sausage • What's-in-the-Fridge Frittata • Peanut Butter Cup Bars • Brownie Bites You'll also find recipes for feeding a household of roommates, maximizing leftovers, cooking for a dinner date, and hosting parties with minimal prep and cost. Just consider COLLEGE COOKING your crash course in kitchen survival—and required reading for off-campus living. Reviews: “College Cooking is a must-pack, along with the fry pan and the blender, for those going back to college or starting this year.” —Arizona Republic “The recipes are quick, easy, and simple.” —Kansas City Star “This is reasonable food reasonably fast. I was going too give the cookbook to someone in college, but no way. This is going straight into my collection.” —Oakland Tribune

You may be new to the world of paycheck-to-paycheck broke-ass living but it's a very big community, populated with every kind of ethnicity, nationality, religion and class. How we get through is with a little help from our friends and that's what this book is about. How we make great family dinners work with little to nothing is what I am going to teach you. I do not claim these recipes to be gourmet. Some are simple, "Why didn't I think of that?" recipes. Most are designed to be quick, "We've got 20 minutes, what can I make?" type of meals. Simple foods, quick preparation, kid-pleasers are what we focus on. Season as you like, get creative or just prepare as written, it's really up to you. The recipes contained are hearty meals for growing families, they are time tested and will feed a family of 4 for pennies a day. Download or read book Survival Cookbook written by Anne Johnson Knutson and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010-10-15 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you have stored food for emergencies? Do you have recipes for tasty food from this stored food? These are recipes for stored- type foods and arent in any regular cookbooks that I know of. This may be what youre looking for or may some day need. There is a Camping/Trail Section in this cookbook, but MANY of the recipes throughout the rest of the booklet would also work great for campfire cooking. During about 25 years of jungle living in Bolivia, South America, my mother collected these recipes. Some recipes are hers, some shared from other jungle wives and mothers. Where we lived, there were no grocery stores, no roads, no TVs, no electricity, no plumbing, no other people for about 1 hours flying time over a beautiful emerald carpet of Amazonian rainforest with an occasional brown river ribbon winding across the endless green below. Every 3 to 5 months, a Cessna would bring supplies, like batteries, 100 lb. bag of flour, raisins, canned foods, shotgun shells, outboard motor parts & gasoline, and most importantly mail. My first summer in the jungle, Mom baked bread in a tin oven over a campfire. The next year she had a wood burning stove my father made for her from the round cut-off ends of a barrel & tins cans, clayed around to make a fire box, and a chimney stack of 5 gallon gas cans wired together. She still used the tin oven on the stove top for baking. Its not easy baking over a wood fire, trying to keep it burning evenly and consistently. My wish for you is that this recipe collection from Elena Josephine Garland Johnson will be a help to you. She would like that. Shes the lady in the front cover picture.
