In 1980 Brother Lee spoke one hundred thirty-two messages that were published in Life-study of Exodus, Life-study of Colossians, Life-study of Galatians, Life-study of Philippians, and Life-study of 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, and Philemon. These Life-study messages are not included in The Collected Works of Witness Lee Until the end of January, Brother Lee ministered in Anaheim, California. On the last weekend in January he visited San Diego, California, and then returned to Anaheim. On a weekend in the middle of February he traveled to San Francisco, California. He returned to Anaheim and remained there until the middle of March, at which time he visited Denver, Colorado, and Albuquerque, New Mexico, for four days. During the entire month of April Brother Lee traveled to Stuttgart, Germany, and Copenhagen, Denmark, after which he visited Boston, Massachusetts, and New York City before returning to Anaheim. Brother Lee ministered in Seattle, Washington, over the Memorial Day weekend near the end of May, and he returned to Anaheim and remained there, except for a one-day visit to Fullerton, until the end of August. He then held a weekend conference in Cleveland, Ohio, after which he returned to Anaheim and remained there until the middle of September. On the third weekend in September Brother Lee ministered in Spokane, Washington, and returned to Anaheim. On the first weekend in October he visited Berkeley, California, for two days, and then he returned to Anaheim, where he remained until the middle of October. He ministered in Miami, Florida, on the third weekend in October, and he remained there for rest through the second weekend in November. He returned to Anaheim and ministered there until the end of the year. The contents of this volume are divided into three sections, as follows: 1. Three messages given in Anaheim and Fullerton, California, on January 6 and on August 10 and 14. These messages are included in this volume under the title Miscellaneous Messages. 2. A message given in Anaheim, California, on May 19. This message is included in this volume under the title Our Spiritual Situation and the Lord's Recovery. 3. Fifty-eight messages given in Anaheim, California, on February 14, 1980, through May 21, 1982. They were previously published in a fifty-six-chapter book entitled Perfecting Training and are included in this volume under the same title.

The first period is the three months from January through March, during which Brother Lee was in Manila, Philippines, in January and returned to Taipei, Taiwan, via Hong Kong in February. He then conducted three conferences and a few co-workers' meetings in March. The second period consists of the next six months, from the beginning of April through mid October. During this period Brother Lee traveled around the world, passing through Tokyo, Osaka, and Shenyu in Japan (April 8 through 22); Honolulu, San Francisco, Berkeley, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh, New York City, Washington, D.C., and Toronto in the United States and Canada (April 23 through August 1); London, Copenhagen, Glasgow, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Zurich, Geneva, Rome, and Athens in Europe (August 2 through September 21); Beirut, Jerusalem, and Tehran in the Middle East (September 22 through 28); Karachi, Rangoon (now Yangon), and Bangkok in South and Southeast Asia (September 29 through October 3); and Hong Kong (October 4 through 15) before returning to Taiwan on October 16. The third period consists of the last three months in Taiwan, during which time he conducted various conferences. For the first period we have records of Brother Lee's meeting with district responsible ones in Hong Kong on February 12. The three conferences that Brother Lee conducted in Taiwan in March were on the subject of enjoying God. This is the first time that Brother Lee released the light concerning this subject. In addition to the three conferences, Brother Lee conducted a number of meetings with serving ones on March 4 through 8. He also gave a series of messages on reading the Bible and another series of messages on the vision of the tree of life. The messages given during this period are included in volume 1 of this set. For the second period we have records of Brother Lee's speaking in Tokyo in April in a conference on enjoying God and records of a few private talks. There are two records of his speaking in New York and four records of his speaking in Denmark. In addition, he wrote long letters that reveal some of the meetings that took place during his trip. These letters are published in Church News in volume 1 of this set. After his visits to the United States, Europe, and the Middle East, he returned to Hong Kong in October. There he held two weeks of conferences on God's building. In the third period, upon returning to Taiwan in October, Brother Lee conducted a conference on God's building, with meetings in both the morning and the evening. In addition, he conducted various meetings with serving ones. After the conference, on Mondays and Wednesdays he gave additional messages on the subject of God's building. Almost all the messages given in the second and third periods of 1958 are included in volume 2 of this set. Some of his speaking in October and November is included in volume 1 in the section entitled The Perfecting of the Saints and the Building Up of the House of God. The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1958, volume 1, contains messages, personal letters, and reports by Brother Witness Lee from February through December 1958. Historical information concerning Brother Lee's travels and the content of his ministry in 1958 can be found in the general preface that appears at the beginning of this volume. The contents of this volume are divided into seven sections, as follows: 1. A message given in Hong Kong on February 12. This message is included in this section under the title Building and Perfecting. 2. A short speaking in an unknown location in February or March. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From January until March 1955, Brother Witness Lee remained in Taipei, Taiwan, to continue a series of Bible studies that he began the previous year. These studies were on the books of the New Testament from Matthew through Revelation. They are included in volume 1 of this set. After he completed this series, he traveled to the Philippines, where he remained until August. There he conducted another Bible study on the books from Matthew through Acts and gave messages on several chapters of 1 and 2 Peter. He also gave messages on a number of topics, including how to be useful to the Lord, the living and principles of the kingdom people, reward and punishment, the way for a Christian to mature in life, and the central work of God and the proper spiritual experiences. These messages are included in volumes 2 and 3 of this set. In September he traveled to Hong Kong and remained there until the end of December. During this time he conducted another Bible study on the New Testament from Romans through Colossians, perhaps as a continuation of the Bible study that he had conducted in the Philippines. He also gave a series of messages on the mingling of God and man and the principle of resurrection, another series of further talks on the knowledge of life, a training on how to conduct meetings, as well as messages on other topics. During his visit to Hong Kong, saints from Southeast Asia came and joined the meetings. As a result, he had some times of fellowship with these saints. Brother Lee's speaking in Hong Kong is included in volume 4 of this set. At the end of November, T. Austin-Sparks visited the Far East for the first time and held meetings first in Hong Kong and then in Taiwan. Brother Lee remained with Brother Austin-Sparks during his entire visit. The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1955, volume 1, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee in 1955. Historical information concerning Brother Lee's travels and the content of his ministry in 1955 can be found in the general preface that appears at the beginning of this volume. The contents of this volume are divided into three sections, as follows: 1. One article that was published in the hardbound edition of The Ministry of the Word in 1955. He returned to Los Angeles in late February. There is no record of his speaking in the cities outside Los Angeles. In the middle of March Brother Lee traveled to the eastern part of the United States, visiting Lubbock, Texas; Greensboro and High Point, North Carolina; Birmingham, Alabama; New York City and Buffalo, New York; Toronto, Canada; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Mansfield and Cleveland, Ohio; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and Indianapolis, Indiana, before returning to Los Angeles in the middle of May. During this same trip he might also have visited Boston, Massachusetts; Montreal and Ottawa, Canada; and Louisville, Kentucky. The only record of Brother Lee's speaking on this trip was in High Point and New York City. At the end of May Brother Lee visited Dinuba, California, for two days and returned to spend the next week in Los Angeles. In the middle of June he traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada; San Francisco, California; and Corvallis, Oregon, before returning to Los Angeles, where he remained until the end of July. There is no record of his speaking in Las Vegas or Corvallis. From late July through the middle of November Brother Lee visited the Far East. From July 25 through August 22 he was in Taiwan, where he was joined by over one hundred forty brothers and sisters from the United States and Canada, along with some saints from Brazil, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Denmark, and West Germany. During those days he ministered in Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung. The contents of this volume are divided into eight sections, as follows: 1. Twenty-three messages given in Los Angeles, California, from January 1 through July 7. These messages are included in this volume under the title Various Messages in Los Angeles. Two pairs of messages were combined. 2. One message given in High Point, North Carolina, on March 24. This message is included in this volume under the title Message Givenin High Point, North Carolina. 3. Four messages given in New York City on March 30 and 31. They are included in this volume under the title Various Meetings in New York. 4. Four messages given in Dinuba, California, on May 29 and 30. Four messages given in San Francisco, California, from June 14 through 16. They are included in this volume under the title Life Principles for the Proper Practice of the Church Life. 6. Ten messages given in Los Angeles, California, on July 4 through 7. They are published in this volume under the title Christ in the Stage of the Spirit in the New Testament. 7. Twenty-four messages given in Los Angeles, California, on July 9 through 19. These messages were previously published as a twenty-two-chapter book under the title The Practical Expression of the Church. 8. Thirteen messages given in Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung, Taiwan, from July 26 through August 3. After Brother Lee returned to Taipei, Taiwan, Brother T. Austin-Sparks visited Taiwan in February for the second time (his first visit was in 1955). After visiting Taiwan, Austin-Sparks went to Hong Kong in March for a short visit. Brother Lee accompanied him during the entire time. The result of these visits caused much confusion concerning the practice of the church, in particular concerning the truth of the ground of the church. After Austin-Sparks left the Far East, Brother Lee spent about six months in Taiwan, where he conducted conferences and trainings on the truth concerning the church. Near the end of September he went to the Philippines and spent about a month there. At the end of October he traveled to Hong Kong again and stayed until the end of December, conducting various conferences and fellowships, many of which were to clarify the confusion concerning the truth of the church. In January 1958 he again visited the Philippines and remained there about a month before returning to Taipei via Hong Kong. In the 1957 set, volume 1 comprises Brother Lee's messages and personal notes given during his travels in Taiwan and throughout Southeast Asia, including fellowship and messages given during the visit of T. Austin-Sparks to Taiwan and Hong Kong in February and March. Volume 2 continues with Brother Lee's speaking in Taiwan on topics related to the church. Volume 3 is composed of his speaking in Manila, Philippines, and in Hong Kong from the end of September through December. The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1957, volume 1, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee in January 1957 through January 1958. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On October 5, 1959, Brother Witness Lee began a service training in Taipei, Taiwan, that ended on January 22, 1960. A follow-up training began on February 16, 1960, and lasted until April 2. During that time Brother Lee released messages on the elders' management of the church and continued his synopsis of the books of the Bible with synopses of Numbers and Deuteronomy. After the training ended on April 2, he began another training for young people on April 26, which was intended to last five weeks; however, after the second week Brother Lee became ill. He rested until June 28, at which time he began a five-day co-workers' series of meetings with about twenty brothers (see Church News in volume 1 of this set). After these meetings he held various weekly training meetings with co-workers. His speaking in these meetings included the subjects of the sufficiency, pursuit, and learning of the Lord's serving ones and the law of revival. On September 27 he left for the United States for the second time. He remained mainly in New York and conducted meetings on God's building and held a four-day conference on the ground of the church. He traveled to San Francisco on December 1. On December 5 he went to Los Angeles and stayed there until December 8, at which time he returned to the Far East, passing through Japan, where he remained from December 10 through 19. There is no record of his speaking in San Francisco or in Japan. On December 19 Brother Lee returned to Taipei and remained there until the end of the year. The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1960, volume 1, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee and personal notes, letters, and reports concerning his ministry from December 1959 through November 23, 1960. Historical information concerning Brother Lee's travels and the content of his ministry in 1960 can be found in the general preface that appears at the beginning of this volume. The contents of this volume are divided into three sections, as follows: 1. Eleven issues of the periodical Church News published in January through December 1960. We do not have a record of the messages given at this conference. Beginning on February 3, he conducted a ten-day special conference. These crucial messages are included in the section entitled Serving according to Revelation in volume 2 of the 1950-1951 set. On February 27 Brother Lee went to Manila, Philippines, and he returned to Taipei on June 17. During his time in Manila he conducted a conference on March 30 through April 4 on the subject of life and service. We do not have a record of the messages that he gave during that conference. However, we have Brother Lee's personal notes on various other meetings during his visit to Manila. They are included in the section on Brother Lee's personal notes that he made in 1952. After returning to Taiwan from Manila, Brother Lee conducted a two-week special conference beginning on July 13. The general messages are included in the section entitled Christ and the Cross in volume 1 of this set. There were also special messages for responsible ones on how to work, how to administrate the church, and how to conduct meetings. After the conference, beginning on July 28 Brother Lee conducted another two-week series of meetings on what the church is, the knowledge of the Son of God, Christ as the building material for the church, knowing the self and the natural man, the character needed for a worker of the Lord, the exercise of the spiritual life, and how to conduct meetings. These messages for the serving ones are included in the sections entitled Guidelines for the Lord's Table Meeting and the Pursuit in Life; The Crucified Christ; The Vision, Ministry, and Leading of the Lord's Serving Ones; and How to Administrate the Church, which are in volumes 1 and 2 of this set. Beginning on September 22 and ending on November 7, Brother Lee conducted a study, which took place five days a week, on the book of Romans. This study brought in a consecration of between four hundred and five hundred saints. The messages given during the study are included in the section entitled Revelations in Romans: Seeing God's Complete Salvation in volume 2 of this set. On November 12, at the conclusion of the study on Romans, a love feast was held with over two thousand in attendance. At the end of the love feast Brother Lee gave the following word: "A normal Christian must pursue equally in four things: life, truth, the gospel, and service. Most people pay attention to the first three things but neglect the last. This is why we need to make this up. We need to realize that all the services and expenses should be borne by all the saints; no one is in charge of everything or responsible for everything. All those who are called by the Lord to work for Him are in the Lord's work. Although they minister and lead in spiritual affairs and help the churches, they do not burden the churches materially. They look directly to the Lord in faith for all their needs. The Lord has cared for them." On December 10 Brother Lee left Taipei to visit Manila. The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1952, volume 1, contains messages given or published by Brother Witness Lee in 1952. These messages were previously published in a book entitled Guidelines for the Lord's Table Meeting and the Pursuit in Life and are included in this volume under the same title. 5. Fourteen messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, in the summer of 1952. These messages were previously published in a book entitled The Crucified Christ and are included in this volume under the same title.
