Book excerpt: There's a mysterious couple who live up in the woods. One is a midget covered in tattoos you can't quite pin an age on who used to work at a circus in Ohio (which was closed down years ago), and the other is a pink haired seven year old girl who's about as tame as a pissed off Monkey inside your China cabinet breaking dishes over its own head laughing at you. But, why would they live in a tree house and carry PINK Swords! The town drug lord is goanna find out why you need to be nice to short strangers, while the head Cop John Polanski does nothing more than watch it all happen before his eyes. Sixty something Morty Finkelstein owns a corner market with the only gas station in town. He's happy with his lot in life and loves his wholesome yet beautiful wife, Pam. The question is, is she having an affair with the old ex-Marine who lives in a trailer in the back of the store? Not likely. Sam, is in his seventies and is into beer and cigarettes and nightmares of the old war. But, if she's not doing something below board, what are they talking about so much lately that they're keeping from her husband Morty? In the meantime, hubby is routinely busy minding the store, as usual. He trusts Pam. Morty's birthday is coming up, and there's goanna be one big surprise waiting for him. And, it's slightly more than cake, ice cream, and presents. She always plans a surprise party each year. This one's a darker birthday he'll never forget! That is, if he shows up... Morty always forgets his birthday is coming up. And, sometimes he drifts off and no one can find him. Must be the Marijuana. He doesn't know how his life is soon goanna be changed forever. But, if your reality changes, you might not care, depending upon how much Pot you smoke. Although he's a small businessman now, he's still an easy going beer bellied Hippie from the nineteen sixties at heart who's bald on top with long grey hair on the sides. Life can get strange; what's real can get obscured. It can spin out of control when you aren't watching. Morty's a nice guy, but there's not enough Pot in the world that can save him from what's coming. Take a walk up the trail across the street from Morty and Pam Finkelstein's store. Then, if you dare, walk into the dark wooded forest, climb up the rope ladder straight to the tree house door and knock on it hard. Never underestimate anyone who carries a two foot blade of sharp hardened steel. This ain't no kid's tree house.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Rediscovering Nancy Drew is a rich collection of literary memories and insightful cultural comments."--Journal of Children's Literature "Nancy, especially the Nancy of the original story, is our bright heroine, chasing down the shadows, conquering our worst fears, giving us a glimpse of our brave and better selves, proving to everybody exactly how admirable and wonderful a thing it is to be a girl. Thank you, Nancy Drew."--Nancy Pickard "Nancy Drew belongs to a moment in feminist history; it is a moment, I suggest, that we celebrate, allowing ourselves the satisfaction of praising her for what she dared and forgiving her for what she failed to undertake or understand."--Carolyn G. Heilbrun "Rediscovering Nancy Drew lights up the territory. It informs, delights, and acknowledges through love and scholarship a debt long overdue."--Dale H. Ross In 1991, women staff and faculty at the University of Iowa discovered that the pseudonymous author of the original Nancy Drew books, Carolyn Keene, was none other than Mildred Wirt Benson, the first person to earn a master's degree in journalism at Iowa. The excitement caused by their discovery led to the 1993 Nancy Drew Conference, which explored the remarkable passion for Nancy Drew that spans a wide spectrum of American society. The result: a lively collaboration of essays by and interviews with mystery writers, collectors, publishers, librarians, scholars, journalists, and fans which presents a spirited, informative, totally enjoyable tribute to the driver of that blue roadster so many readers have coveted.

Book excerpt: Forrest Fenn’s ‘Thrill of the Chase’ was the greatest treasure hunt of the modern-day era. ‘The Pearl Necklace’ tells the mostly true story of one family’s quest to recover the gold-laden chest. Supposedly the $2 million horde of gold and precious gemstones was found in 2020. This tale of adventure and intrigue casts serious doubt on the legitimacy of that discovery. In doing so, it reveals the solution to the hunt that has baffled thousands of searchers over the last 13 years. It also poses a number of questions. Was the hunt a cryptological masterpiece? Or was it merely an elaborate hoax to keep an aging gentleman amused in his later years? And was there a larger, more sinister back story to the Chase? All is revealed in The Pearl Necklace as well as the introduction of a new treasure quest to enthral the next generation of fortune seekers The Hunt for the Sacred Idol.
