Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The American Stud Book, Vol. 3 of 3: Containing Full Pedigrees of All the Imported Thourough-Bred Stallions and Mares, With Their Produce, Including the Arabs, Barbs, and Spanish Horses, From the Earliest Accounts of Racing in America, to the End of the Year 1877; Also, All the Native Mares As was promised in the publication of the first two volumes of the Stud Book, the author now submits the third volume of the american stud book to the public, and avails himself of this occasion to state that he has thought it advisable not to ex clude from its pages those animals associated with racing fami lies which are not strictly thoroughbred; nor has be omitted others, the facts in regard to Whose pedigrees it was impossible to obtain. Of the latter he hopes to secure a more perfect account for subsequent volumes. Having obtained a certain distinction on the turf and in the stud, a degree of interest attaches to them which necessarily leads 'to enquiry as to their true origin, and this desire for information cannot be satisfied if the animals are excluded. In those instances where a pedi gree is inserted of a questionable character, the fact is noted that the reader may be correctly advised. The produce of thoroughbred mares which have been bred to trotting or other stallions are also, as usual, given a place under their dams, in order to preserve a complete history of the mares, the true object of a genealogical work being to furnish informa tion on collateral as well as direct facts. Book The Clydesdale Stud Book Vol 19

Download or read book The Clydesdale Stud Book Vol 19 written by Clydesdale Horse Society and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Clydesdale Stud-Book, Vol. 19: Containing Pedigrees of Mares Having Produce Previous to 30th September, 1896, and Stallions Foaled Before 1st January, 1896 Speak hopefully of the prospects in the United States, and in any case the Council feel warranted in claiming that the Stud Book should be much more widely supported than it is. Too many breeders are resting content with the knowledge that the foundation animals of their studs have been registered, forgetful that the Society and stud-book must be supported if the benefits of registration are to be fully utilised. Unless stock is regularly entered up mistakes will inevitably occur, and in view of this the Council has recently passed an important resolution re garding the registration of foals. Unless foals be entered in the year of their birth double fees will be charged, and in view of the nominal charge made for the entry of foals out of registered mares there Should be no difficulty in rendering unnecessary the application of this rule. Various other matters connected with the standard of admission into the stud-book have engaged the serious consideration of the Council during the year, but to these it is not needful to refer in detail at present. The Society has a large and influential membership, and there is no reason whatever to anticipate a period to its usefulness if each one will do his utmost to maintain the registration of his own stock, and to urge the importance of registration on his neighbours. Book The Clydesdale Stud Book Vol 11

Download or read book The Clydesdale Stud Book Vol 11 written by Clydesdale Horse Society and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11 with total page 1014 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Clydesdale Stud-Book, Vol. 11: Containing Pedigrees of Mares Having Produce Previous to 30th September, 1888, and Stallions Foaled Before 1st January, 1888 The Council respectfully direct the attention of breeders to the importance of recording all births in their studs, whether the foals survive or not. It is almost as useful to know that a mare had no foal in a given year, or that her foal died, as it is to know that she had a foal which came to maturity. Where the former information is lacking a loophole is left for unscrupulous persons to represent animals as the produce of mares with which they have no connection, and there is reason to fear that this has in some cases in the past been done. Applications to alter descriptions of registered animals have of late become somewhat numerous, and the Council have been compelled in several instances to refuse to give effect to the proposed alterations. Great care should therefore be exercised by breeders in entering stock, as errors in descriptions frequently lead to difficulties, especially with foreign buyers, and it is impossible for the Council to alter descriptions after animals have been exported, and it is no longer possible to be satisfied as to their identity. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Clydesdale Stud-Book, Vol. 4: Containing Pedigrees of Mares Having Produce Previous to 1st January, 1882, and Stallions Foaled Before 1st January, 1881; With Three Appendices, and a List of the Members of the Clydesdale Horse Society as at 10th February, 1882 The Obituary column, now introduced for the first time, should be of much value to Breeders, because they will be able by it to check the possibility of fraud in giving the name of a dead animal as sire or dam of stock offered for sale. Such cases have occasion ally come under the notice of the Committee, and in the compilation of the Retrospective Volume it was frequently found that when all other means of weighing evidence failed the age test settled the point. Dates of death and exportation should be as carefully noted as dates of birth. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
