Book Tales of Wordishure

Download or read book Tales of Wordishure written by Mick Mcart and published by . This book was released on 2009-08-15 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is Wordishure? It is a collection of seven children's stories in one book. The first six chronicle the adventures and lessons of the various inhabitants of Wordishure. Story number seven brings all the characters of the first six together for one grand adventure. These stories are written for children of all ages and can be enjoyed by parent and child alike. Each adventure includes Biblical lessons that will inspire the reader and also start a dialogue between parent and child about God and personal accountability. Children tend to have a natural love for Jesus Christ, but sometimes they grow away from Him as they get older because they never truly got to know him. Some just seem to love Him because they sit in church every Sunday and they see that their parents are pleased when they say they love Him. Children need to get to know Jesus at a level they can understand, and that their decision to follow Him requires a willingness to change their heart and behavior. I have written the Tales of Wordishure because I have seen very few pieces of Christian literature that are written in the style of children's classics such as "The Ugly Duckling," "Little Red Riding Hood," "Hansel and Gretel," or "The 3 Little Pigs." The Lord used parables to help people understand the mysteries of God. Tales of Wordishure does the same thing, but at a level that children can understand and have fun with at the same time. There is no magic in Wordishure. Today's popular children's literature emphasizes the use of witchcraft, numbing the child at an early age to think that it is okay. Wordishure is an alternative. There are fantastic situations in the stories, but all are resolved through prayer, proper decisions by the characters, and trust in the Lord. Children need to know at an early age not to put their trust in secular fantasies, but to trust in sound Biblical doctrine. Where is Wordishure? It is an imaginary realm where modern technology does not exist. It is a world seen from a child's point of view. Are there adults in these stories? There are parents in all the stories, and although never named, they are seen as wise and to be obeyed. Are there wicked villains in Wordishure? There are no true villains or fear of death in Wordishure, only the misunderstood, or creatures that have lost their way from following God's word. What is the age range for the reader? Children of all ages call enjoy The Tales of Wordishure. The characters in the stories fire up the imagination of the smallest child, while word play and Christian principles hold the attention of the older kids and adults. Why is there a scripture verse at the beginning of each story? Each story is built around a Bible principle that the child should learn as the story progresses. Some stories have more than one Biblical lesson, though!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Involved for over thirty years in the politics of Iraq, Ali A. Allawi was a long-time opposition leader against the Baathist regime. In the post-Saddam years he has held important government positions and participated in crucial national decisions and events. In this book, the former Minister of Defense and Finance draws on his unique personal experience, extensive relationships with members of the main political groups and parties in Iraq, and deep understanding of the history and society of his country to answer the baffling questions that persist about its current crises. What really led the United States to invade Iraq, and why have events failed to unfold as planned? The Occupation of Iraq examines what the United States did and didn't know at the time of the invasion, the reasons for the confused and contradictory policies that were enacted, and the emergence of the Iraqi political class during the difficult transition process. The book tracks the growth of the insurgency and illuminates the complex relationships among Sunnis, Shias, and Kurds. Bringing the discussion forward to the reconfiguration of political forces in 2006, Allawi provides in these pages the clearest view to date of the modern history of Iraq and the invasion that changed its course in unpredicted ways.

Download or read book Ovid Metamorphosed written by Philip Terry and published by Random House. This book was released on 2011-10-31 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The shape-shifting poetry of Ovid's Metamorphoses has fascinated writers and artists from Shakespeare to Ted Hughes, Rembrandt to Picasso. Its eternal freshness is haunted by an ancient idea: that a person's true nature is revealed when their physical shape is changed- the wolf-like man becomes a wolf, the obsessive spinner a spider. For this dazzling collection Philip Terry asked leading writers to take Ovid as a starting point and set their invention free. The results are startling, from Apollo and Phaeton transposed to a Dutch classroom to Diana and Actaeon in the rain of Nova Scotia. We find fables, grotesques and white-coated scientists; sports-cars, swans and shells; and even Ovid himself, high-spirited and unrepentant, speaking to us from beyond the grave.Challenging the very shape of the modern short story, Ovid Metamorphosed is a kaleidoscope of delights, scary, sexy, suggestive and profoundly entertaining.

Book Inklings

Download or read book Inklings written by Jeffrey Koterba and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2009-11-03 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Jeffrey Koterba was six, he started drawing his first cartoons, painstakingly copying from the Sunday Omaha World Herald’s funny papers and making up his own characters. With a pen and a sheet of white paper, he was able to escape into a world that was clean, expansive, and comfortable—a refuge from the pandemonium surrounding him. The tiny house Koterba grew up in was full-to-bursting with garage-sale treasures and televisions his father Art repaired and sold for extra money. A hard-drinking one-time jazz drummer whose big dreams never seemed to come true, Art was subject to violent facial and vocal tics—symptoms of Tourette’s Syndrome, a condition Jeffrey inherited—as well as explosions of temper and eccentricity that kept the Koterba family teetering on the brink of disaster. From the canyons of broken electronics, the lightning strikes, screaming matches, and discouragements great and small emerged a young man determined to follow his creative spirit to grand heights. And much to his surprise, he found himself on a journey back to his family and the father he once longed to escape. An exuberant, heart-felt memoir that calls to mind The Tender Bar and Fun Home, Inklings is infused with an irresistible optimism all its own.
