Book The Christian s Reasonable Service

Download or read book The Christian s Reasonable Service written by Wilhemus A'Brakel and published by . This book was released on 2012-05-02 with total page 2704 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1700, The Christian¿s Reasonable Service (De Redelijke Godsdienst) ran through twenty Dutch editions in the eighteenth century alone! The title is derived from Romans 12:1, ¿I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.¿ It expresses what God requires from man, and particularly from the Christian, that he serve Him in Spirit and in truth¿intelligently, rationally, and in harmony with and response to God¿s revelation of Himself, His Word. With a decidedly Puritan flavor and representing Reformed experiential religion at its best, Wilhelmus à Brakel systematically moves through the major doctrines of the Bible in hopes of seeing the minds of God¿s people renewed for the purpose of promoting godliness. Throughout his work, but particularly in the practical application of each doctrine, à Brakel strives unceasingly to exalt the name of Jesus as the name that the Father has given above every other name¿there being no other name given under heaven among men whereby we must be saved (Acts 4:12).

Book The World The Flesh and the Devil

Download or read book The World The Flesh and the Devil written by Andrew Sharp and published by Auckland University Press. This book was released on 2016-10-24 with total page 1277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Zealanders know Samuel Marsden as the founder of the CMS missions that brought Christianity (and perhaps sheep) to New Zealand. Australians know him as &‘the flogging parson' who established large landholdings and was dismissed from his position as magistrate for exceeding his jurisdiction. English readers know of Marsden for his key role in the history of missions and empire. In this major biography spanning research, and the subject's life, across England, New South Wales and New Zealand, Andrew Sharp tells the story of Marsden's life from the inside. Sharp focuses on revealing to modern readers the powerful evangelical lens through which Marsden understood the world. By diving deeply into key moments &– the voyage out, the disputes with Macquarie, the founding of missions &– Sharp gets us to reimagine the world as Marsden saw it: always under threat from the Prince of Darkness, in need of &‘a bold reprover of vice', a world written in the words of the King James Bible. Andrew Sharp takes us back into the nineteenth-century world, and an evangelical mind, to reveal the past as truly a foreign country.

Book Systematic Theology Vol 1 3

Download or read book Systematic Theology Vol 1 3 written by Augustus Hopkins Strong and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2023-12-16 with total page 2894 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Systematic Theology" in 3 volumes is one of the best-known works by the American Baptist minister and theologian Augustus Hopkins Strong. This carefully crafted Good Press ebook is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. Excerpt: "Under the influence of Ritschl and his Kantian relativism, many of our teachers and preachers have swung off into a practical denial of Christ's deity and of his atonement. We seem upon the verge of a second Unitarian defection that will break up churches and compel secessions, in a worse manner than did that of Channing and Ware a century ago. American Christianity recovered from that disaster only by vigorously asserting the authority of Christ and the inspiration of the Scriptures. We need a new vision of the Savior like that which Paul saw on the way to Damascus and John saw on the isle of Patmos, to convince us that Jesus is lifted above space and time, that his existence antedated creation, that he conducted the march of Hebrew history, that he was born of a virgin, suffered on the cross, rose from the dead, and now lives forevermore, the Lord of the universe, the only God with whom we have to do, our Savior here and our Judge hereafter. Without a revival of this faith our churches will become secularized, mission enterprise will die out, and the candlestick will be removed out of its place as it was with the seven churches of Asia, and as it has been with the apostate churches of New England." Contents: Idea of Theology Method of Theology The Existence of God Origin of Our Idea of God's Existence Corroborative Evidences of God's Existence The Scriptures A Revelation from God The Nature, Decrees, and Works of God The Attributes of God Doctrine of the Trinity The Decrees of God The Works of God Anthropology, Or the Doctrine of Man: The Original State of Man Sin, Or Man's State Of Apostasy Soteriology Christology The Reconciliation of Man to God Ecclesiology, Or the Doctrine of the Church Eschatology...

Book Authentic Christianity

  • Author : Richard W. Tow
  • Publisher : WestBow Press
  • Release : 2018-12-13
  • ISBN : 1973645947
  • Pages : 516 pages

Download or read book Authentic Christianity written by Richard W. Tow and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2018-12-13 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “In a time when biblical literacy is waning and values are less than absolute, Authentic Christianity is a helpful and needful book for today’s church. Consisting of thirty chapters, a conclusion, a bibliography, and indexes, it moves through the first Epistle of John segment by segment, mining biblical guidelines and blessings at every corner” (Ben Aker, PhD, professor emeritus of New Testament and exegesis, Assemblies of God Theological Seminary). “I want this book in the hands of every one of my students and ministry leaders. The church is at a crossroads wherein we are teetering along a slippery slope that has ensnared a generation with a gospel unlike that preached by Christ and his disciples” (Pastor Troy D. Bohn, director of Raven Ministries International Training Center). “I highly recommend Dr. Richard Tow’s Authentic Christianity for pastors and anyone serious about studying 1 John in a deeper way. Dr. Tow presents practical ideas and lessons for how twenty-first-century Christians can protect our hearts and minds against modern-day false teachings, how to sincerely and biblically live our lives with love and a clear conscience” (Dr. Donald W. Eubank, chaplain; retired lieutenant colonel, US Army; endorsing agent, military VA chaplains; Foursquare Gospel Church). “This book should be required reading for anyone in ministry. The church is slowly apostatizing due to its ignorance of what constitutes a genuine biblical believer. John’s epistle, more than any other New Testament book, differentiates between the true child of God and those who are merely claiming to be one. John’s bottom line is ‘These things I have written . . . in order that you may know that you have eternal life.’ Find out what John means by ‘know.’ It’s a matter of life or death” (David Ravenhill, author and itinerant teacher, Siloam Springs, Arkansas).

Book World Religions and Cults Volume 1

Download or read book World Religions and Cults Volume 1 written by Bodie Hodge and published by New Leaf Publishing Group. This book was released on 2015-08-13 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Religions in today’s culture seem to be multiplying. Have you ever wondered why certain religions believe and practice what they do? Or how they view the Bible? This volume delves into these and other engaging questions, such as: How can a Christian witness to people in these religions? Do these other religions believe in creation and a Creator? How do we deal with these religions from a biblical authority perspective? Many religions and cults discussed in this first volume openly affirm that the Bible is true, but then something gets in their way. And there is a common factor every time—man’s fallible opinions. In one way or another the Bible gets demoted, reinterpreted, or completely ignored. Man’s ideas are used to throw the Bible’s clear teaching out the window while false teachings are promoted. This book is a must for laymen, church leaders, teachers, and students to understand the trends in our culture and around the world where certain religions dominate, helping you discern truth and guard your faith. When you understand a religion’s origins and teachings, you are in a better position to know how to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ as you take the good news to those in false religions.

Book Volume 6 Tome I Kierkegaard and His German Contemporaries Philosophy

Download or read book Volume 6 Tome I Kierkegaard and His German Contemporaries Philosophy written by Jon Stewart and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-05-15 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores in detail Kierkegaard's various relations to his German contemporaries. Kierkegaard read German fluently and made extensive use of the writings of German-speaking authors. Apart from his contemporary Danish sources, the German sources were probably the most important in the development of his thought generally. This volume represents source-work research dedicated to tracing Kierkegaard's readings and use of the various German-speaking authors in the different fields in a way that is as clearly documented as possible. The volume has been divided into three tomes reflecting Kierkegaard's main areas of interest with regard to the German-speaking sources, namely, philosophy, theology and a more loosely conceived category, which has here been designated "literature and aesthetics." This first tome treats the German philosophical influences on Kierkegaard. The dependence of Danish philosophy on German philosophy is beyond question. In a book review in his Hegelian journal Perseus, the poet, playwright and critic, Johan Ludvig Heiberg laments the sad state of philosophy in Denmark, while lauding German speculative philosophy. Moreover, Kierkegaard's lifelong enemy, the theologian Hans Lassen Martensen claims without exaggeration that the Danish systems of philosophy can be regarded as the "disjecta membra" of earlier German systems. All of the major German idealist philosophers made an impact in Denmark: Kant, Fichte, Schelling, and most significantly, Hegel. Kierkegaard was widely read in the German philosophical literature, which he made use of in countless ways throughout his authorship.
