Download or read book The Christian Combat Manual written by Dan Story and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prepare Yourself to Engage Today's Secular Culture The Christian Combat Manual will help Christians respond positively to their faith and the criticism aimed at Christianity. The Christian worldwide dominated American culture until recent times. Christian principles and values directed governmental policies and set the standards for judicial, educational, ethical, and social behavior in this country. Not so today! People have become apathetic, even indifferent to immoral behavior that a few decades ago was universally recognized as evil and condemned. Vulgarity and violence flood our entertainment industry. Cheating is commonplace in college classrooms, as is corruption and greed in the workplace. The Christian Combat Manual is carefully constructed to help Christians engage culture by training them to confront and respond to major intellectual and cultural challenges they face today. One chapter encourages the use of the Socratic method-asking "counter-questions" that place the burden of proof on unbelievers, forcing them to defend their beliefs. The Christian Combat Manual is divided into five parts, as Part One defends the historically accurate accounts of divine revelation while Part Two tackles the raging controversy regarding the theory of evolution. Part Three demonstrates the existence of God, while Part Four centers on the person of Jesus Christ. Part Five focuses specifically on modern issues and secular postmodern doctrines.

Download or read book Raising Real Men written by Hal Young and published by Great Waters Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Families with boys often find the world reacts to them in mock horror. Even though parents love their sons, privately they admit that boys can be a handful to raise--they are boisterous, competitive, reckless, distractable. The challenge of wills between parent and son starts early, and the quest to civilize young bulls may seem hopeless some days. Yet believers know that God has given them children as a gift of heaven, specially chosen for their particular families and marked as a blessing. If that's so, why does it seem so hard? How can we prepare these boys to serve God when it's all we can do to make it through another day? Isn't there a better way? Raising Real Men: Surviving, Teaching and Appreciating Boys shows the answer is emphatically yes. Written by the parents of six boys, Raising Real Men provides hope and encouragement to families with sons. Starting from the premise that God made boys to become men, Hal and Melanie Young offer Biblical principles and tested, practical ideas for training the manly virtues that can drive parents and teachers up the wall. This is a practical guide to equipping the hearts and minds of boys without breaking or losing your own. "...earthy, realistic, humorous, and scriptural ..." -- Douglas Wilson, author, Future Men "This is just what the doctor ordered for parents who want to raise capable Christian men of character." -- John Rosemond, author, Parenting By The Book

Download or read book OtherWise Christian written by Chris R Paige and published by Otherwise Engaged Publishing. This book was released on 2019-07 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: OtherWise Christian: A Guidebook for Transgender Liberation by Mx. Chris Paige is a love letter to transgender communities, a self defense manual against Bible abuse and Christian trans-antagonism, and the beginning of a historical record of how far we have come. OtherWise Christian reviews 25 years of transgender-affirming biblical scholarship. Mx. Chris Paige argues that the Bible shows us story after story of OtherWise-gendered people being used by God to further the kingdom. Yet, we have been bamboozled by a restrictive gender ideology that is aligned with empire, white supremacy and Christian supremacy. Jesus and our biblical ancestors invite us to join a gender-full resistance! Scholarly, yet accessible, OtherWise Christian takes the Bible seriously, while presenting new vocabulary to connect modern transgender (and intersex) identities with gender non-conforming themes in the Christian Bible. The result is a bold and unapologetic interpretation of Christian tradition that will have you re-reading familiar bible passages with new clarity. "In many ways, this is the initial quick reference that I would have loved to find when I first started exploring my gender identity as a twenty-something Christian," says Paige about the book. Download or read book The Layman s Manual on Christian Apologetics written by Brian G. Chilton and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-11-14 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern Christians have been bombarded by objections launched against the Christian faith from popular secular authors, bloggers, and stars from the entertainment industry. The church is quickly beginning to acknowledge the need for apologetics due to the number of youth and adults alike leaving the faith. But how does one respond to these objections? For the laity of the church, this is especially difficult, as many are left without the proper training to know how to answer these objections. In The Layman's Manual on Christian Apologetics, the essentials of apologetics are taken from the ivory towers of academia and are made available to those who have not obtained seminary training or for those thinking about attending seminary. In this book, three major areas of apologetics are covered. The first unit engages the nature of truth and what can be known. The second unit deals with the existence of God and issues involving God's existence. The last unit tackles historical objections to the resurrection of Jesus and early Christianity. The Layman's Manual on Christian Apologetics delivers heavy apologetic issues with the laity in mind and blends in personal illustrations to make the material applicable.

Download or read book A Manual for Creating Atheists written by Peter Boghossian and published by Pitchstone Publishing (US&CA). This book was released on 2014-07-01 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For thousands of years, the faithful have honed proselytizing strategies and talked people into believing the truth of one holy book or another. Indeed, the faithful often view converting others as an obligation of their faith—and are trained from an early age to spread their unique brand of religion. The result is a world broken in large part by unquestioned faith. As an urgently needed counter to this tried-and-true tradition of religious evangelism, A Manual for Creating Atheists offers the first-ever guide not for talking people into faith—but for talking them out of it. Peter Boghossian draws on the tools he has developed and used for more than 20 years as a philosopher and educator to teach how to engage the faithful in conversations that will help them value reason and rationality, cast doubt on their religious beliefs, mistrust their faith, abandon superstition and irrationality, and ultimately embrace reason.
Download or read book Theological Hermeneutics and the Book of Numbers as Christian Scripture written by Richard S. Briggs and published by University of Notre Dame Pess. This book was released on 2018-06-25 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How should Christian readers of scripture hold appropriate and constructive tensions between exegetical, critical, hermeneutical, and theological concerns? This book seeks to develop the current lively discussion of theological hermeneutics by taking an extended test case, the book of Numbers, and seeing what it means in practice to hold all these concerns together. In the process the book attempts to reconceive the genre of "commentary" by combining focused attention to the details of the text with particular engagement with theological and hermeneutical concerns arising in and through the interpretive work. The book focuses on the main narrative elements of Numbers 11–25, although other passages are included (Numbers 5, 6, 33). With its mix of genres and its challenging theological perspectives, Numbers offers a range of difficult cases for traditional Christian hermeneutics. Briggs argues that the Christian practice of reading scripture requires engagement with broad theological concerns, and brings into his discussion Frei, Auerbach, Barth, Ricoeur, Volf, and many other biblical scholars. The book highlights several key formational theological questions to which Numbers provides illuminating answers: What is the significance and nature of trust in God? How does holiness (mediated in Numbers through the priesthood) challenge and redefine our sense of what is right, or "fair"? To what extent is it helpful to conceptualize life with God as a journey through a wilderness, of whatever sort? Finally, short of whatever promised land we may be, what is the context and role of blessing?
