Download or read book A Real Christian written by Kenneth J. Collins and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Real Christian: The Life of John Wesley fills a void in available books in Wesleyan studies by providing a brief, solid biography that focuses on Wesley himself. While exploring Wesley's ancestry, birth, death, and every major biographical and theological event between, Collins also explores the theme of John Wesley's spiritual growth and maturation. Wesley came to the conclusion that real Christians are those whose inward (and outward) lives have been transformed by the bountiful sanctifying grace of God -- what he termed real Christianity--and this he strove to obtain for himself. Real Christianity, as Wesley understood it, embraces both works of piety and mercy, the person and the social.

Book The True Christian s Love for the Unseen Christ

Download or read book The True Christian s Love for the Unseen Christ written by Thomas Vincent and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2017-07-28 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christian live is primarily motivated by our love for Christ. Without manifesting love to Christ, we are as entirely lacking spiritual life as a dead body lacks life when its soul departs for the other world. Therefore, professing a belief without loving Christ is dead religion, and thus a professed believer who has no love to Christ is a dead man, dead in transgression and sin. Without a biblical love to Christ, we may pretend to be Christians, but we would lack entirely the true nature of a Christian. In treating the true love of Christians towards Christ, this book is like any other. Puritan devotion, intertwined with clear doctrine and sharp biblical precision in statements, permeates this book on every page of it. You will be unable to put it down, and your life and devotion to Christ will be changed forever. This book was originally published in 1812 under the title "The True Christian's Love for the Unseen Christ." The current edition has been proofread, typeset for eBook readers, and slightly updated for modern readers. About the author: Thomas Vincent (1634 - 1678) was an English Puritan minister and author. The son of John Vincent and brother of Nathaniel Vincent, both prominent theologians and ministers, Thomas was born at Hertford in 1634, studied theology at Westminster, and then served in Leicester, Cambridge, London, and Hoxton, England. Vincent was imprisoned several times for his preaching and opposing the intrusion of England's Government into the religious life. He died on 15 October 1678.

Book The Normal Christian Life

Download or read book The Normal Christian Life written by Watchman Nee and published by Bibliotech Press. This book was released on 2023-01-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Normal Christian Life is a book by Watchman Nee first delivered as a series of addresses to Christian workers who were gathered in Denmark for special meetings in 1938 and 1939. The messages were first published chapter by chapter in the magazine A Witness and A Testimony published by Theodore Austin-Sparks. The first chapter was published in the November-December 1940 issue. This first publication of the book can be viewed in the original magazines on Austin-Sparks.Net. The messages were later compiled into a book by Angus Kinnear in 1957 in Bombay, India. In The Normal Christian Life, Watchman Nee presents foundational principles for the Christian life and walk drawing primarily from the book of Romans. The book is generally regarded by many as the first introduction of Watchman Nee to the Western world. As of 2009, this book has sold over 1 million copies and is available in many editions and languages. Watchman Nee based his speaking on the first eight chapters of the New Testament book of Romans. Nee takes the first eight chapters of Romans as a "self-contained unit" and divides these chapters into two parts: Romans 1:1 to 5:11 as part one and Romans 5:12 to 8:39 as part two. In the first part of Romans "sins" is given prominent attention and deals with the question of the sins man has committed before God. However, the second section deals with "sin," that is the inward nature, or inward working principle, within man that causes man to commit sin. Thus there is a difference between the acts of a sinner, sins, and the inward nature of a sinner, sin. Nee reveals that God's dual remedy is the Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Cross of Christ. The Blood "deals with what we have done, whereas the Cross deals with what we are. The Blood disposes of our sins, while the Cross strikes at the root of our capacity for sin". As Nee progressively moves along in his book, he first touches upon the Blood and then focuses upon the Cross for the remainder of the book. Watchman Nee gave four steps in which a Christian lives the Christian life. Basing from Romans 6:6, there is the need for the knowledge of the cross of Christ as a fact in our experience. The second step is the matter of reckoning. Reckoning is the stating and considering of facts and promises that God has revealed to be true. The third step is the matter of presenting to God. Coming to Romans 6:13, Watchman Nee says that Christians consecrate that which passed through death and resurrection in the new creation. In this way, Christians would no longer live to themselves but to Christ because He has the full authority over their lives. The fourth step is the matter of Walking after the Spirit. Firstly, walking after the Spirit does not refer to our "working" but of dependence on God's working and operation. Secondly, it refers to subjection. This means that the Christian life is the yielding of all the dictates of our flesh and be of subjection to the Spirit. The Normal Christian Life is one of Nee's most well known books. It is considered by many to be a spiritual classic of Christianity. It has been reprinted and reissued in many editions and in many languages. The book's enduring appeal is not only due to Nee's exposition of Romans but also to the many illustrations, personal accounts, and anecdotes that Nee used. The Normal Christian Life has impacted millions of Christians since Nee spoke it and is a major contributor to the local churches movement today. Nee was recognized in the United States House of Representatives by Christopher H. Smith of New Jersey in 2009. He recognized Nee as having been one of the most influential Chinese Christians of his era. In the Congressional record, The Normal Christian Life is highlighted by Smith as being among his most popular and influential books. (wikipedia.org)

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anti-Semitism and British Gothic Literature examines the Gothic's engagement with the Jewish Question and British national identity over the course of a century. Beginning with an exploration of Jewish demonology from the Middle Ages to the Enlightenment, Davison interprets the changing significance of the trans-national Wandering Jew in classic Gothic fiction who later migrates into Victorian realism. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My Name is Manuel Villalobos, I was born in the city of Montebello in Los Angeles County. I am the middle child of fourteen (14) Sisters and brothers; ten and four respectively. We moved to the city of Whittier when I was four years old where I lived for forty-four (44) years. After much prompting by God's Holy Spirit, and being compelled, I began to write my testimony down. I soon found I was writing what appeared to be a testimonial of God's enduring love, grace, and acceptance, which needed to be told to a lost and struggling people; not only to those who don't know the love and forgiveness of God, through Christ, but also to my Christian brothers and sisters who need encouragement! My true life story is not about me, but about the Grace of a loving and gracious God and Savior. A Savior who demonstrated His love toward everyone, in that while we are yet sinners, Christ died for us. My life went from depravity and despair to the righteousness of Christ and His peace which passes all understanding. I found the love of God through the gift of Jesus Christ. My hope is that you, the reader, will find encouragement, hope, forgiveness, peace, and reconciliation, to the Creator of all that is seen and known; and in so doing find that for which most are looking. In Christ Jesus; Manuel Villalobos

Book If God Is Good

Book excerpt: Suffering is, in the end, God’s invitation to trust him. “As he did in his best-selling book, Heaven, Randy Alcorn delves deep into a profound subject, and through compelling stories, provocative questions and answers, and keen biblical understanding, he brings assurance and hope to all.” –Publishers Weekly Every one of us will experience suffering. You may be in such a time now. We see the presence of evil in the headlines every day. It all raises questions about God—Why would an all-good and all-powerful God create a world full of evil and suffering? How can there be a God if suffering and evil exist? Atheists such as Richard Dawkins and even former believers like Bart Ehrman answer the question simply: The existence of suffering and evil proves there is no God. But in this illuminating book, best-selling author Randy Alcorn challenges the logic of disbelief, and brings a fresh, hopeful, and thoroughly biblical insight to the issues these important questions raise. Alcorn offers insights from his conversations with men and women whose lives have been torn apart by suffering, and yet whose faith in God burns brighter than ever. He reveals the big picture of who God is and what God is doing in the world—now and forever. And he shows the beauty of God’s sovereignty—how it ultimately triumphs over suffering and evil in our lives and the world around us.
