Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid and continuing development of the Chinese economy and its markets has made business with China an integral component of the strategies of countless foreign companies, regardless of their size or form. However, in order to turn opportunities into successful enterprises, managers need a practical guide on the legal aspects of conducting business in China, and on the strategies for effectively circumventing unnecessary risks while simultaneously using the legal system to strengthen operations and protect interests. This remarkable book provides the necessary insight and guidance to devise a corporate strategy, and to tackle issues relating to common aspects of doing business with Chinese counterparts, investing in a Chinese enterprise, and engaging in business operations there. Drawing on expertise gained during eight years in China serving the legal needs of foreign companies, the author shows how many of the mistakes that foreign companies make can easily be avoided by conducting a proper due diligence and understanding how applicable laws work in practice. He clearly describes the opportunities and pitfalls exposed as a foreign investor engages with such elements of business in China as the following: negotiating a detailed written contract; performing a legal and commercial due diligence on a prospective partner; resolving disputes through negotiation, arbitration or litigation; establishing and enforcing trademarks, patents and other intellectual property rights; investing in China; considering the joint venture structure; expanding through a merger or acquisition; restructuring or liquidating an operation; designing and implementing effective corporate governance; retaining, managing and terminating employees; arranging funds into and out of China; ensuring both tax efficiency and tax compliance; and avoiding criminal liabilities in the course of doing business. Whether seeking to source from China or to establish manufacturing facilities in China to produce for export, to sell products or services on the domestic market, or even just to act as a conduit between China and the outside world, business managers and their counsel from all over the globe and across all industries will benefit enormously from this deeply informed, insightful, and practical guide

Book Innovation In China A Strategic Management Casebook

Download or read book Innovation In China A Strategic Management Casebook written by Hugh Thomas and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2022-04-08 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Innovation has shaped society since civilization began. Imperial China was the most innovative society on earth, but it failed to join the 19th century industrial revolution. In the 20th century, the Communist Party of China addressed that failure. Today China boasts an internationally compliant, rapidly developing IP system. State planning continues to be critical as the case of the largest, single, technology acquisition and infrastructure project in world history, high speed rail, demonstrates. But most of the innovation in China comes from the private sector: government incubators are among the government stimuli of private initiative, both local and global. And as the case on Cisco shows, foreign MNCs management of innovation in China is attractive but must involve co-ordination with government policy. This book presents cases where managers determine policy in China's increasingly innovative society. Readers take the roles of decision-makers to make strategy decisions. The cases in this volume showcase China's traditional three teachings, socialist market institutions, and modern management using studies on current Chinese companies and their leaders, among them big names such as Haier and Huawei. Each case stands alone as teaching material for instructors. Taken together, the book presents evolving models of innovation. Their subtle differences from western constructs critically impact the development of our global society.

Book Chinese Intelligence Operations

Download or read book Chinese Intelligence Operations written by Nicholas Eftimiades and published by Naval Inst Press. This book was released on 1994 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "With this timely study, a seasoned sinologist publicly examines the infiltration of Chinese espionage agents into foreign governments and private businesses. These efforts to collect state and technological secrets, he says, have been going on mostly uninterrupted for decades while Western intelligence services focused on the Soviet Union. Now, with the end of the cold war and the collapse of the USSR, attention must turn to these invasive operations." "Unstinting in his research, the author has made full use of Chinese sources and his own longtime study of China. In addition, he draws on his expertise as a counterintelligence analyst to examine the structure, objectives, and methodology of Chinese clandestine activities. The book specifically addresses the human source in intelligence operations, such as agent and double-agent recruitment, and how these tactics fit into the conduct of internal and foreign affairs in China. The author's interviews with a number of Chinese diplomats, military and civilian intelligence officers, and secret agents reveal the cloak-and-dagger activities common to Chinese operatives in the United States. These astonishing descriptions read like a gripping espionage novel. Yet the book is uncompromising in its studious documentation. The monograph from which this work sprung was honored in 1992 as the best scholarly article on the subject of intelligence by the National Intelligence Study Center - a think tank founded by former top CIA officials. Written in a style that will appeal to a broad range of readers, this book is a one-of-a-kind intelligence study." "Intelligence and defense professionals congressional and foreign government staffers, industrial and business security professionals, as well as intelligence buffs will all find something of interest in this compelling and detailed book."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc.
