Book excerpt: Which sort of seducer could you be? Siren? Rake? Cold Coquette? Star? Comedian? Charismatic? Or Saint? This book will show you which. Charm, persuasion, the ability to create illusions: these are some of the many dazzling gifts of the Seducer, the compelling figure who is able to manipulate, mislead and give pleasure all at once. When raised to the level of art, seduction, an indirect and subtle form of power, has toppled empires, won elections and enslaved great minds. In this beautiful, sensually designed book, Greene unearths the two sides of seduction: the characters and the process. Discover who you, or your pursuer, most resembles. Learn, too, the pitfalls of the anti-Seducer. Immerse yourself in the twenty-four manoeuvres and strategies of the seductive process, the ritual by which a seducer gains mastery over their target. Understand how to 'Choose the Right Victim', 'Appear to Be an Object of Desire' and 'Confuse Desire and Reality'. In addition, Greene provides instruction on how to identify victims by type. Each fascinating character and each cunning tactic demonstrates a fundamental truth about who we are, and the targets we've become - or hope to win over. The Art of Seduction is an indispensable primer on the essence of one of history's greatest weapons and the ultimate power trip. From the internationally bestselling author of The 48 Laws of Power, Mastery, and The 33 Strategies Of War.

Book Inventing the Child

Download or read book Inventing the Child written by John Zornado and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-18 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in paperback, Inventing the Child is a highly entertaining, humorous, and at times acerbic account of what it means to be a child (and a parent) in America at the dawn of the new millennium. J. Zornado explores the history and development of the concept of childhood, starting with the works of Calvin, Freud, and Rousseau and culminating with the modern 'consumer' childhood of Dr. Spock and television. The volume discusses major media depictions of childhood and examines the ways in which parents use different forms of media to swaddle, educate, and entertain their children. Zornado argues that the stories we tell our children contain the ideologies of the dominant culture - which, more often than not, promote 'happiness' at all costs, materialism as the way to happiness, and above all, obedience to the dominant order.

Book Seduction and Desire

Download or read book Seduction and Desire written by Ilka Quindeau and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-03-08 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern society has introduced many new relationships and family forms and the pluralisation of sexual lifestyles in the hundred years since Freud. This book provides a systematic account of the current state of theory, developing a gender-wide model of human sexuality and outlining the implications of this for psychotherapy practice. The author argues that the development of human sexuality follows no innate biological programs, but takes place in an interpersonal relationship, often established in the early parent-child relationship. Whereas the current psychoanalytic discourse emanates from a rather rigid division of gender relations emphasizing the differences between men and women, the author develops a gender-wide model of human sexuality in which the 'masculine' and 'feminine' are integrated and contribute to the full diversity of gender identities and sexual varieties. She points to structural similarities of hetero-and homosexuality and perversion and calls for a general human sexuality that is based less on differences between men and women than with each other.

Book Tom Scharf Revisits the Child Seducers

Download or read book Tom Scharf Revisits the Child Seducers written by Tom Scharf and published by Jones Harvest Pub. This book was released on 2008-11 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intuitively 80% of Americans believe Congress and our society are headed in the wrong direction, spiritually, morally, economically and politically. Neither Congress nor its citizens have any idea how it happened! Nearly four decades ago the author of this book (The Child Seducers by John Steinbacher) correctly identified the Soviet's master plan to destroy our society using the American taxpayer's money to pay for it. Today, using the same master plan, our congress is at war with the American people and incredibly ignorant of why and how it happened! Four decades of no comprehensive energy planning, illegal immigration, climate control and liberal policies to support the agenda of liberal's positions in our Congress are testimony to American's skepticism. Today's economic policies are the culmination of decades of infiltrating our higher institutions of teaching Universities to institutionalize socialistic ideas into the taxpayer supported public education bureaucracy. It took the Soviet's 75 years of socialism to collapse upon itself. Our experiment with socialism matures about 2012 (two presidential elections away). We may have won the cold war but the philosophy of Socialism is still with us. Why and how did we adopt the Soviet's master plan to destroy ourselves? John Dewey, the father of America's tax payer supported public school system originally took his ideas of "do your own thing philosophy" to the Soviet Union in the early 1920s. It was quickly adopted as a plan to bring about Karl Marx's idea of a Utopian form of government under Communism. By 1931 the ruling hierarchy in Russia realized that no civilization, not even Communism, could survive the do-your-own-thing philosophy of John Dewey. Could this be on of the reasons Joe Stalin murdered 20+ million of his own people? Communists learned their lesson well and also how best to destroy a civilized nation like the United States. As my wife so eloquently and simply put it, "it's all about who is in control and how to obtain it." Author's tip, "could it be brain washing?" Read chapter xiv first.

Book Desire in Language

Download or read book Desire in Language written by Julia Kristeva and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2024-02-20 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Desire in Language presents a selection of Julia Kristeva’s essays that trace the path of an investigation, extending over a period of ten years, into the semiotics of literature and the arts. Probing beyond the claims of Sigmund Freud, Jacques Lacan, and others, Kristeva proposes and tests theories centered on the nature and development of the novel, and on what she has defined as a signifying practice in poetic language and pictural works. Desire in Language fully shows what Roman Jakobson has called Kristeva’s “genuine gift of questioning generally adopted ‘axioms,’ and her contrary gift of releasing various ‘damned questions’ from their traditional question marks.”

Book Interrogating Trauma

  • Author : Mick Broderick
  • Publisher : Routledge

Download or read book Interrogating Trauma written by Mick Broderick and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-09-27 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the past century, traumatic experiences have been re-enacted frequently by evolving media and art forms. Now there is a significant body of theory across academic disciplines focused on the representation of cataclysmic European and US historical events. However, less critical attention has been devoted to the representation of havoc outside the West, even though depictions of Third-World disasters saturate contemporary media and art around the globe. This book considers traumatic histories internationally in a broad range of creative arts and visual media representations. Deploying diverse applications of the conventional theories of trauma, it examines the theoretical limitations at the same time as considering alternative methodologies. Interrogating Trauma is concerned with the examination of the concept of trauma, and how it is (often unproblematically) used to theorise the cultural representation of disaster and atrocity. It offers a theorisation of trauma, in order to reappraise the relationship between cultural representation and the socio-historical processes which are marked by violence, conflict and suffering. This book was published as a special issue of Continuum: Journal of Media and Cultural Studies.
