Book Church Leadership Challenges in the Twenty First Century

Download or read book Church Leadership Challenges in the Twenty First Century written by Flora Claybrook Th.D. and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-06-08 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twenty-first century consists of an ever-evolving diverse population (multiculturally, internationally, racially, and sexually) whose ideas and beliefs are as diverse as the population itself. This has caused the church to face challenges she has never faced before. There was a time when Christians were a majority in this country and were free to speak about Jesus, prayer, or sin without fearing repercussions. However, the twenty-first century has ushered in a paradigm shift toward something called "un-Christian" and "tolerance" culture. This new "pluralistic" culture is one where everything is tolerated/accepted, with one exception: Christianity. Church attendance is declining, and fewer people understand scripture or know anything about Jesus. Therefore, their belief systems do not align with scripture. Church leaders must step out of the "church bubble," face today's world, and plan how they will meet these challenges. In this book, the author discusses the following twelve major challenges confronting twenty-first-century church leaders as well as some strategies for meeting these challenges and reversing negativity: un-Christian phenomenon, blending the generational groups, religious pluralism vs. exclusivism, open theism vs. classical theism, gender-neutral Bible controversy, egalitarianism vs. complementarianism, LGBTQ conversation, postmodernism and religion, futurism vs. preterism, biblical illiteracy in the church, the need for racial reconciliation, and continual disintegration of American families.

Book Confronting Kingdom Challenges

Download or read book Confronting Kingdom Challenges written by Samuel T. Logan Jr. and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2007-08-09 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It takes only one look at today's news page or one listen to the news shows to understand that, clearly, there is no shortage of kingdom challenges for the twenty-first-century church at large, for Christian organizations and agencies, or for us as individuals. In the face of such enormous problems as the rise of pagan world religions, AIDS, sexual abuse and trafficking, urban poverty, and ethnic and religious conflict, what can you and your fellow Christians do? According to the diverse group of contributors in this book, you can choose to get involved, sharing not only the kingdom burdens but the kingdom opportunities with other brothers and sisters in Christ so that no Christian, no church, no ministry, no nation has to confront these challenges alone. But how can you join in doing the work you are called to do? The superb analysis, biblical solutions, and reality-tested ideas put forth in this book by some of the leaders of the global Reformed and evangelical church will show you. Coming from the fields of religion, education, medicine, broadcasting, psychology, urban ministry, and missions, these fellow Christians are encountering the challenges daily. Their suggestions will give you a grasp of not only what is necessary to be a global evangelical Christian today but how to respond to the physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of others around the world-and perhaps in your own backyard.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: That we might find support in the faith and overcome the present temptation to apostasy, schism, and resignation, but at the same time not succumb to the danger of overestimating ourselves and relying on our own activity instead of on grace—that is the goal of the present book. –from the Introduction "You shall know the truth," Jesus said, "and the truth will make you free" (Jn 8:32). Such is the liberating power of truth. In this book, Gerhard Cardinal Müller, former head of the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, unabashedly defends the truth of salvation taught by Christ and the Roman Catholic Church. He discusses how Catholic teaching addresses present-day crises in the Church and in the world. This book also includes the cardinal's recently released Manifesto of Faith. Relying heavily on The Catechism of the Catholic Church, it clarifies certain Church doctrines that have lately seemed to be in doubt.

Book excerpt: "A devastating attack upon the dominance of atheism in science today." Giovanni Fazio, Senior Physicist, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics The debate over the ultimate source of truth in our world often pits science against faith. In fact, some high-profile scientists today would have us abandon God entirely as a source of truth about the universe. In this book, two professional astronomers push back against this notion, arguing that the science of today is not in a position to pronounce on the existence of God—rather, our notion of truth must include both the physical and spiritual domains. Incorporating excerpts from a letter written in 1615 by famed astronomer Galileo Galilei, the authors explore the relationship between science and faith, critiquing atheistic and secular understandings of science while reminding believers that science is an important source of truth about the physical world that God created.

Book Challenging Christianity

Download or read book Challenging Christianity written by Jeff Schwarzentraub and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why is it that people throughout the world, regardless of religious or social affiliation, think there must be more to life than they are experiencing? This is highlighted by marketers who communicate the urgent need for change and transformation...promising solutions to our most pressing needs. The problem is that our deepest needs are not met by something that costs only $29.95 plus shipping and handling. Instead, we need an incalculably valuable, transformational experience with the God of the universe. Is Jesus Christ really the God of heaven and earth who is able to meet our most significant needs? If not, let's put Christianity to rest once and for all. However, if Jesus Christ holds the answers for life, then how can you fully experience Him today? In this dynamic new book, author and speaker Jeff Schwarzentraub gets beyond the routines, rhetoric, and rituals of religion and points the way for those who have the courage to follow. "Anyone who knows Jeff knows...he is no fan of casual Christianity. If you're looking for something warm and cozy, then stay away from this book. But if you're looking for something to challenge you, kick you out of your comfort zone, and help you stretch to new places...then read Challenging Christianity at your own risk." -Cal Rychener, Senior Pastor, Northwoods Community Church, Peoria, Illinois Jeff Schwarzentraub is the founder and president of One Heartbeat Ministries. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Moonies like most of the new religious movements of the sixties and seventies are a pale reflection of their former selves, but the problem they addressed is still very much with us: for most people the church does not represent the will of God well, if at all. These are the real stories of a non-Christian confronting Christians. I present this in the spirit of love for all Christians, as I am now one of you.

Book Outgrowing Church

    Book Details:
  • Author : John Killinger
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2013-06-26
  • ISBN : 9781498216463
  • Pages : 142 pages

Download or read book Outgrowing Church written by John Killinger and published by . This book was released on 2013-06-26 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why are so many people drifting away from today's churches? John Killinger suggests that part of the problem is that they have personally outpaced the thinking and understanding of the church, so that they no longer find it adequate as a social structure for the celebration of their faith. In their attempts to find Jesus and his teachings relevant within the new culture, they strike out on their own or adhere to para-Christian organizations that retain an allegiance to Jesus without the baggage of the traditional institution. Killinger, a former big-steeple minister and theologian, describes how he himself has been forced essentially to abandon the church in order to remain faithful to the beliefs and ideals that first drew him into it. ""[This] is a personal and passionate chronicle of Killinger's journey beyond the formulas and concepts of many contemporary expressions of Christianity. He speaks for thousands who yearn to tie truth and life together. His challenge is for some part of institutional Christianity to listen and to respond."" --John Shelby Spong, author of The Fourth Gospel: Tales of a Jewish Mystic ""John is not writing as a critic but as a critical lover. This book is a transparent reflection of his spiritual journey that has prompted him to be a more faithful follower of Jesus, while also challenging present-day followers of Jesus to rethink church as we have come to know it. This is an important book for the ministry practitioner who desires his or her ministry to make a difference in the world."" --Robert Hundley, Senior Pastor, First United Methodist Church of Grand Rapids, Michigan John Killinger pastored First Presbyterian Church of Lynchburg, Virginia, First Congregational Church of Los Angeles, and Marble Collegiate Church in New York City. He taught at Vanderbilt Divinity School and Princeton Theological Seminary, and was Distinguished Professor of Religion and Culture at Samford University. He is the author of more than seventy books, including Ten Things I Learned Wrong from a Conservative Church (2002), The Changing Shape of Our Salvation (2007), and Hidden Mark: Exploring Christianity's Heretical Gospel (2010).

Download or read book To be the Church written by Konrad Raiser and published by World Council of Churches. This book was released on 1997 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the end of a century which saw the rise of a world-wide movement for church unity, many observers would say that ecumenism has fallen on hard times. Among the churches which have historically been the mainstay of the ecumenical movement, many face the new millennium with uncertainty about their own identity and mission. This challenging book by the former general secretary of the World Council of Churches weaves together concerns and hopes he has heard expressed by church leaders around the world, insights that have emerged from ecumenical reflection on the church and on the world, and biblical images of the nature of the Christian community. The author outlines a vision of how the dynamism of the movement towards a world-wide fellowship of churches and of its institutional expression in bodies like the World Council might be rekindled in the face of the daunting challenges of the years ahead.

Book The Understanding of Spiritual Conflicts Challenges

Download or read book The Understanding of Spiritual Conflicts Challenges written by N. Jerome McClain and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-12-16 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spiritual battles are often silent killers. We are all participants by default. What makes these attacks so devastating is our ignorance to their existence. One huge distraction is the blindness that comes from preoccupation with the glitters of this world Christianity VS. Churchanity was considered for the subject of this book. The thought that many would consider the book to be about the conflicts between churches and Christ resulted in not using that subject. Although there are a great number of satanic attacks manifested in the church, the church is the bride of Christ and should always be recognized as such. Spiritual Conflicts and Challenges reveal the truth concerning the reality that Satan builds churches (gatherings) that are about anything and everything except salvation. You will surely be challenged to expand your view and understanding of our Lords mission and our obedience.

Book Churches of Christ

  • Author : A. Hvezda

Download or read book Churches of Christ written by A. Hvezda and published by . This book was released on 2018-08-30 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was around the turn of the 20th century that the Churches of Christ emerged as a distinct brotherhood within the Stone-Campbell "Restoration" Movement. They soon earned a two-fold reputation. They were known as being those churches that 1) would not use instruments in worship and 2) believed they were the One True Church outside of which there is no salvation. Churches of Christ experienced significant growth. Some, if not many, of their converts had been members of "denominational" churches who were led to doubt their salvation due to their tradition's failure to comply with what was held to be the New Testament plan and pattern in baptism and worship. The CHALLENGE of converting and retaining both the unchurched and denominationally churched to a One True Church began to become more difficult during the closing decades of the 20th century. In the West, a postmodern perspective that is suspicious of absolute truth claims has become more pervasive, undermining the efforts of Church of Christ evangelists to persuade outsiders with an anti-instrumentalism and a sectarian exclusivism that even many of their fellow members no longer find compelling. This indicates a TRANSITION that is occurring within Churches of Christ. Some congregations now offer at least two services, one that is a-cappella and the other instrumental. Exclusivism has been rejected as Baptists and other evangelical believers are embraced as brethren. A number of those within Churches of Christ see this ongoing transition as an OPPORTUNITY for a far larger and mutually encouraging fellowship of faith in which unity is based upon the Gospel rather than precise compliance with a particular pattern of NT doctrine and practice. The author endeavors to unpack this challenge, offer an account for the transition, and then promote the opportunity for Churches of Christ to serve as an equipping resource for the overall Church while continuing to sustain brother-hood/Stone-Campbell distinctives such as a-cappella worship, weekly communion, and directing those coming to faith to respond to the Gospel of the crucified and risen Christ Jesus in repentance, confession, and baptism.
