Download or read book The European Blood and Marrow Transplantation Textbook for Nurses written by Michelle Kenyon and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-14 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is open access under a CC BY 4.0 license. This textbook, endorsed by the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT), provides adult and paediatric nurses with a full and informative guide covering all aspects of transplant nursing, from basic principles to advanced concepts. It takes the reader on a journey through the history of transplant nursing, including essential and progressive elements to help nurses improve their knowledge and benefit the patient experience, as well as a comprehensive introduction to research and auditing methods. This new volume specifically intended for nurses, complements the ESH-EBMT reference title, a popular educational resource originally developed in 2003 for physicians to accompany an annual training course also serving as an educational tool in its own right. This title is designed to develop the knowledge of nurses in transplantation. It is the first book of its kind specifically targeted at nurses in this specialist field and acknowledges the valuable contribution that nursing makes in this area. This volume presents information that is essential for the education of nurses new to transplantation, while also offering a valuable resource for more experienced nurses who wish to update their knowledge.

Book Chronic Graft Versus Host Disease

Download or read book Chronic Graft Versus Host Disease written by Georgia B. Vogelsang and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2009-04-20 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chronic graft versus host disease (GVHD) is the most common complication of allogenic bone marrow transplantation. Because of the protracted clinical course of chronic GVHD, transplant centers and hematology/oncology offices are inadequately equipped to manage these immuno-incompetent patients with a multi-system disorder. Practitioners need to be able to recognize and effectively manage chronic GVHD as a late effect of more than half of allogenic transplantations. The text is oriented for the clinician, with chapters covering staging, organ site and system-specific manifestations, treatment options, and supportive care. Drs Georgia B. Vogelsang and Steven Z. Pavletic have been pioneers in the recognition of the multi-organ complexity of this disease and have gathered the input of a variety of subspecialist physicians for this book. This book fills the gap in practical literature on chronic GVHD, providing a comprehensive, up-to-date, and clinically relevant resource for anyone who deals with cancer patients post-transplant.

Book Transplantation

    Book Details:
  • Author : Johann W. Masshoff
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media

Download or read book Transplantation written by Johann W. Masshoff and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 956 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organ transplantation has almost disappeared from headlines in the daily press, possibly because it failed to fulfill exaggerated expectations. Transplanta tion pathology has become more and more important, not only with relation to therapeutic transplantations but even more in its fundamental theories. There is some analogy here to the development in space science where spectacular achievements were followed by sobering frustrations and where, for the time being, the effect on technology is more fruitful than the outcome of the original far-reaching projects. That transplant rejection was defined, in most of its stages, as an immunologic process, has given many new impulses to immunology in general. Transplantation assays have become a pet experiment in immunobiology and an abundant source of general information and knowledge. The implications of such a development could not be predicted when the present volume was outlined and planned. In accordance with the concept of WILLI MASSHOFF, general transplantion pathology was given a central position as a fundamental science, while the chapters on the transplantation of various tissues are of a more paradigmatic character. It was MASSHOFF who invited competent authors and who managed to balance their articles, despite some overlapping, so as to draw a comprehensive picture of contemporary transplanta tion pathology. WILLI MASSHOFF died while he was editing the first manuscripts. As co-editors we have undertaken to complete the publication that we began together.

Book Immunological Aspects of Transplantation Surgery

Download or read book Immunological Aspects of Transplantation Surgery written by R.Y. Carne and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: R. Y.Calne Surgeons are transplanting kidneys in ever increasing numbers-more than 10000 renal allografts have now been reported to the Transplant Registry. With related donors 75% of grafted kidneys continued to function after 2 years, compared with 50% when the donors were unrelated. The therapeutic value is obvious, but the management is largely empirical and results have improved little in the past 5 years. The basic sciences related to tissue transplantation have advanced rapidly. New serological and tissue culture techniques and chemical analysis of antigens and anti bodies have produced complicated data that is almost incomprehensible to the non specialist. Mathematical treatment of genetic probabilities and of immunological kinetics are similarly difficult to follow for those not especially trained. There has always been a gulf between the practical clinician whose patients do not behave like inbred rodents and the biologist who likes carefully controlled experiments with easily observed results. Both realize, however, that predictable and safe control of rejection must involve close collaboration and co-operation between the laboratory and the clinic. Unfortwlately, the different nature of the work and the workers has widened the gap between them. The clinicians tend to improve their techniques and patient care, whilst the biologists seek clearer and more precisely deflned experi ments which lead them to use increasingly artiflcial experimental models.

Download or read book A History of Immunology written by Arthur M. Silverstein and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2009-06-17 with total page 553 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this innovative, short, new textbook, Rod Langman offers a conceptual framework within which students can understand the evolution of the immune system. Evolutionary selection for resistance to infectious disease is shown to be the driving force that has shaped the immune system into a remarkably effective and efficient system of defense. In the midst of the current information explosion in immunological science, when many students are under the impression that the immune system is almost too complex to understand as a whole, The Immune System can be used alone as a text for an introductory course or used in conjunction with any of the several descriptive texts already on the market.

This book was released on 2004-04-27 with total page 736 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although pancreas transplants have been performed for more than 30 years, the last few years have witnessed significant growth in the options available for pancreas transplantation as well as subtantial improvements in outcome. It is therefore appropriate that a new text summarize the recent advances and put forth the standard of future care. Transplantation of the Pancreas, edited by Drs. Gruessner and Sutherland fulfills this mission by providing a state-of-the-art, definitive reference work on pancreas transplantation for transplant surgeons and physicians as well as for endocrinologists, diabetologists, nephrologists, and neurologist. The editors, from the renowned University of Minnesota Transplant Division and the Diabetes Institute, have assembled a group of renowned experts to provide an all inclusive overview of pancreas transplantation. The text features insights on the pathophysiology of diabetes mellitus and the limitations of nontransplant treatments, highlights experimental research and clinical history of pancreas transplantation, and compares and contrasts different surgical procedures. The discussions detail the broad spectrum of posttransplant complications and their treatments, which frequently require skills in general, vascular, and laparoscopic surgery, interventional radiology, critical care, and infectious disease. Chapters on immunosuppression, immunology, pathology, long-term outcome, quality of life, and cost-effectiveness focus on issues unique to pancreas recipients. Evolving areas, such as pretransplant evaluation of pancreas transplant candidates, living donation, and the current status of islet transplantation are discussed. Augmented by more than 280 illustrations, including full color line drawings created exclusively for the text, this book is the standard reference for all transplant professionals as well as all physicians caring for diabetic patients.
