Book The Care of the Child in Health Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Care of the Child in Health Classic Reprint written by Nathan Oppenheim and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-15 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Care of the Child in Health The person of high mind and character, selects an admirable field of work, or such a field as is susceptible of being dignified by the exercise of thorough work and preparation, of thought ful attention to details, of a large grasp of the inherent potentialities 'of the vocation, which marks it off from the sordid and petty affairs of ordinary, petty life. Great results are not obtained by a preternatural flash of wondrous inspiration. On the contrary, they rest upon unremitting toil, upon tireless industry, upon an endless struggle with adverse conditions, the conquering of which means a great step toward the final evolution of civilization. This is the basis of genius, and a careful examination of the works of any great man will Show how scrupulously he has met the demands Of the Situation. Leonardo da Vinci was will ing to grind his own colors, and make his own paints in order to obtain the desired effects; and in the wide range of activities in which he was proficient there was no detail too small or too burdensome to be carefully mastered. William Morris, who was great in both poetry and art, in order to produce works of beauty became a printer, a dyer, a weaver. There was no labor too commonplace, no outlay of time. Book Notes on the Care of Infants Classic Reprint

Download or read book Notes on the Care of Infants Classic Reprint written by Francis Huntington Rankin and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2019-02-13 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Notes on the Care of Infants Attention to the hygiene of the nursery, is as import ant as the proper care of the infant itself, if you wish to bring up a healthy child. Whenever it is possible a child should have a day nursery as well as a night nurs ery it should not be confined to the same room day and night; The nursery should be thoroughly aired two or three times a day. During the summer months there is ordinarily plenty of fresh air, but in winter, the nursery is liable to become foul. The common practice of dry ing napkins in the nursery is very reprehensible. Ir dependent of the dampness, the odor of urine given out from the napkins contaminates the air, and renders it very unwholesome and offensive. The soiled nap kins, even those wet with urine, should never remain in the nursery a moment. One rule should positively be observed, always put on a fresh clean napkin, and never, under any circumstance, one that has been simply dried after it has been used, without having been washed. The defective hygienic condition in which a child is placed, will naturally influence its chances of life. Re member that fresh pure air with plenty of sunlight is as important as wholesome food. The nursery should be the sunniest and healthiest room in the house. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. There would be no necessity for the protest against tightly closed and ill-ventilated rooms. The starvation for Oxygen, it is true, is much more slow, and it may be years before one sees evidence of the depletion the body is undergoing in cases where the supply is insufficient, whereas the daily demand for food is a crying one that can not be overlooked. Book Infant Care Classic Reprint

Download or read book Infant Care Classic Reprint written by Max West and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-16 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Infant Care It is Of the utmost importance to have the birth of the baby promptly and properly registered. This should be done preferably within 36 hours after the baby's birth. In most States the physician, midwife, nurse, or other attendant is required by law to report the birth to the local registrar, who will see that the date of birth and the child's name, together with other related facts, are made matters Of public record. Birth registration is necessary in order to prove, among other things, the child's age and citizenship, his right to go to school, his right to go to work, to inherit property, to marry, to hold office, to secure passports for foreign travel, and to prove his mother's right to a pension, if she is a widow. Parents should make sure that this protection Of funda mental rights is assured to every child born to them. If there is any doubt about whether the birth of a child has been registered, an inquiry may be sent to the State board of health at the State capital, where the records are filed. If there is no birth record, the board will furnish a blank which may then be filled out and returned. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
