"Politics, greed, and money, in a thrilling book you will not want to put down." - The Expert Reviewers Twenty-two-year-old car thief, Kelsey Money, has always been one of the boys. She can take down guys bigger than herself in the ring, strip a car down to a bucket of bolts, and drive better than anyone she knows. Kelsey's solid, trustworthy, dependable. But lately, something's changed. Ever since Matt's drug-fueled brother, Lionel, came back on the scene, Kelsey feels like she's become something else - dispensable. So when she discovers Matt's plan to kidnap the disabled daughter of a Senate candidate and that child will never go home alive, Kelsey goes against everything she's ever believed in and makes the decision to save her. It's a decision she knows she could regret. Because when Matt discovers she's betrayed him, she'll be next to die. The Candidate's Daughter and its sequels Child of the State and A Stolen Woman are additions to the great action-packed, character-driven mystery and suspense thrillers for readers of Elle Gray, Stacy Willingham, and Sarah A. Denzil. (Warning: Some language may offend) What readers are saying about The Candidate's Daughter "A terrific ticking-clock thriller." "...political suspense of the best kind." "...makes you want to stop and read it all over again." A Word from the Author First of all, thank you for your interest in my books. You’ll find in many of my books, I include characters with intellectual or physical challenges. Added to this, I wanted to write twisty crime thrillers with complex characters and surprise endings, so I created the Elizabeth McClaine thriller series. So, who is Elizabeth McClaine? Strong-minded Elizabeth uses her connections to the local government in her home town of Cleveland, Ohio to find justice for those who need it. The stories involve kidnappings and heists, corporate greed and murders and storylines that will keep the pages turning onto the wee hours. What gives these stories heart? Real, believable characters from Elizabeth herself to Holly, the cherished only daughter born with Down syndrome. Having loved and cared for a disabled daughter myself, I know the joy and the challenges caring for and loving a disabled child can bring. Therefore, from book #1, Holly brings Elizabeth a real sense of purpose and a desire to help those in need. The books in the series are sequential, but each is a standalone, so you can read them out of order. The Elizabeth McClaine Series so far Includes: BOOK #1: THE CANDIDATE’S DAUGHTER BOOK#2: CHILD OF THE STATE BOOK #3 A STOLEN WOMAN THE ELIZABETH MCCLAINE BOX SET OF THRILLERS Standalone Titles by Catherine Lea LAST SEEN LEAVING – A THRILLER DROPPING DEAD IN DELBY RISH – A VERY BRITISH MURDER MYSTERY (Satire)THE CONTESTANT – A SERIAL KILLER THRILLER If you have any questions, you’ll find my page on Goodreads. Again, my most heartfelt thanks for your interest, Catherine

Download or read book Gender Heteronormativity and the American Presidency written by Aidan Smith and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-10-03 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gender, Heteronormativity and the American Presidency places notions of gender at the center of its analysis of presidential campaign communications. Over the decades, an investment in gendered representations of would-be leaders has changed little, in spite of the second- and third-wave feminist movements. Modern candidates have worked vigorously to demonstrate "compensatory heterosexuality," an unquestionable normative identity that seeks to overcome challenges to their masculinity or femininity. The book draws from a wide range of archived media material, including televised films and advertisements, public debates and speeches, and candidate autobiographies. From the domestic ideals promoted by Eisenhower in the 1950s, right through to the explicit and divisive rhetoric associated with the Clinton/Trump race in 2016; intersectional content and discourse analysis reveals how each presidential candidate used his or her campaign to position themselves as a defender of traditional gender roles, and furthermore, how this investment in "appropriate" gender behaviour was made manifest in both international and domestic policy choices. This book represents a significant and timely contribution to the study of political communication. While communication during presidential elections is a well-established research field, Aidan Smith’s book is the first to apply a gendered lens over such an extended historical period and across the political spectrum.

Download or read book Meet the Candidates 2020 Joe Biden written by Scott Dworkin and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2019-07-23 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is Joe Biden the right Democrat to face Trump in 2020? Decide by reading this guide to his policies, accomplishments as vice president to Barack Obama, and complicated past as a Congressman. Even before he decided to run, Joe Biden was the most popular Democratic candidate for president in 2020. On the heels of serving as vice president, and close friend, to Barack Obama, Biden’s resume and likability position the former Congressman from Delaware as the favorite for the nomination. He holds s strong lead in the polls. But Joe Biden’s legacy is much more complicated. He chaired the Foreign Relations and Senate Judiciary Committees, but his treatment of Anita Hill in the Clarence Thomas Supreme Court hearings will be a black mark on his candidacy. He oversaw successful Great Recession relief and the Violence Against Women Act and ultimately received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, but the racial statements from his past will reflect poorly when promoted by Republicans and fellow Democratic candidates. And Biden has faced allegations of inappropriate touching by several women. Meet the Candidates 2020: Joe Biden: A Voter’s Guide will explore these contradictions and help you decide if Biden is your choice for 2020. The Meet the Candidates 2020 series is the informed voter’s guide to making a decision in the 2020 Democratic primary and presidential election. Each book gives an unbiased, political insider’s analysis of each contender, featuring: candidate interviews; an introduction by campaign advisor, Democratic Coalition co-founder, and Dworkin Report host Scott Dworkin; and compilation and writing by Occupy Democrats Editor at Large Grant Stern. In two hours of reading, you’ll understand their defining characteristics, credentials, campaign issues, challenges, presidential chances, and everything else you need to know to decide who should challenge Donald Trump. Whether it’s for Elizabeth Warren, Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, Cory Booker, or another, Meet the Candidates is what you need to make an informed vote for president in 2020.

Download or read book Hire Smart and Keep Em written by Joan C. Curtis and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2012-07-19 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This timely professional development guide reveals what it takes to recruit—and retain—quality talent by providing smart hiring techniques for interviewing, assessing, and screening applicants. One of the most important jobs of any manager is hiring the right people. Even in organizations with a human resources department, the final hiring decision often falls on a manager who has never been trained in effectively assessing a candidate's character or skill set. Additionally, the interview process itself is fraught with legal pitfalls, making this seemingly simple task one that could become costly and problematic if mishandled. This book teaches the critical techniques for selecting the right person for the job and the strategies that eliminate expensive hiring mistakes. Hire Smart and Keep 'Em: How to Interview Strategically Using POINT lays out a proven method—the POINT process—for recruiting and retaining high quality employees. A renowned business coach, Joan C. Curtis illustrates how interviews can be strategically conducted, demonstrates how illegal interview situations can be avoided, and explains how the latest technology can be implemented to make the whole process go smoothly.
