Book BWR Pool Dynamics in a Loss of Coolant Accident Calculation of the Air venting Phase

Download or read book BWR Pool Dynamics in a Loss of Coolant Accident Calculation of the Air venting Phase written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors calculated the air-venting phase of a loss of coolant accident (LOCA) in a BWR pool using both compressible and incompressible finite difference schemes, and compared the results with experiments made at the University of California, Los Angeles and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The incompressible approach was found to be the most effective, because of the very low flow Mach numbers involved. Theory and experiment were in good agreement.

Book Best estimate Analysis of a Loss of coolant Accident in a Four loop US PWR Using TRAC PD2

Download or read book Best estimate Analysis of a Loss of coolant Accident in a Four loop US PWR Using TRAC PD2 written by and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A 200-percent double-ended cold-leg break loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA) in a typical US pressurized water reactor (PWR) was simulated using the Transient Reactor Analysis Code (TRAC-PD2). The reactor system modeled represented a typical US PWR with four loops (three intact, one broken) and cold-leg emergency-core-cooling systems (ECCS). The finely noded TRAC model employed 440 three dimensional (r, THETA, z) vessel cells along with approximately 300 one-dimensional cells that modeled the primary system loops. The calculated peak-clad temperature of 950°K occurred during blowdown and the clad temperature excursion was terminated at 175 s, when complete core quenching occurred. Accumulator flows were initiated at 10 s, when the system pressure reached 4.08 MPa, and the refill phase ended at 36 s when the lower plenum refilled. During reflood, both bottom and falling film quench fronts were calculated.

Book Nuclear Power Safety

Download or read book Nuclear Power Safety written by James H. Rust and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A concise and current treatment of the subject of nuclear power safety, this work addresses itself to such issues of public concern as: radioactivity in routine effluents and its effect on human health and the environment, serious reactor accidents and their consequences, transportation accidents involving radioactive waste, the disposal of radioactive waste, particularly high-level wastes, and the possible theft of special nuclear materials and their fabrication into a weapon by terrorists. The implementation of the defense-in-depth concept of nuclear power safety is also discussed. Of interest to all undergraduate and graduate students of nuclear engineering, this work assumes a basic understanding of scientific and engineering principles and some familiarity with nuclear power reactors

Book The History of Multiphase Science and Computational Fluid Dynamics

Download or read book The History of Multiphase Science and Computational Fluid Dynamics written by Robert W. Lyczkowski and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-10 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book tells the story of how the science of computational multiphase flow began in an effort to better analyze hypothetical light water power reactor accidents, including the “loss of coolant” accident. Written in the style of a memoir by an author with 40 years’ engineering research experience in computer modeling of fluidized beds and slurries, multiphase computational fluid dynamics, and multiphase flow, most recently at Argonne National Laboratory, the book traces how this new science developed during this time into RELAP5 and other computer programs to encompass realistic descriptions of phenomena ranging from fluidized beds for energy and chemicals production, slurry transport, pyroclastic flow from volcanoes, hemodynamics of blood-borne cells, and flow of granular particulates. Such descriptions are not possible using the classical single-phase Navier-Stokes equations. Whereas many books on computational techniques and computational fluid dynamics have appeared, they do not trace the historical development of the science in any detail, and none touch on the beginnings of multiphase science. A robust, process-rich account of technologic evolution, the book is ideal for students and practitioners of mechanical, chemical, nuclear engineering, and the history of science and technology.
