Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lying in a pool of blood following a skiing accident at Vail, Secretary of State George Milam repeatedly mumbles a seemingly incoherent phrase. Using a memo recorder, a member of Milam’s skiing party documents his curious vocalizations. The secretary of state’s nonsensical ramblings will soon shake the world. Immediately upon analyzing the recording, Dr. Judith Miller3⁄4a talented linguist with the National Security Agency3⁄4realizes that Secretary Milam is speaking in the flawless Arabic of a native Egyptian speaker. Contrary to Milam’s dossier, the secretary of state is clearly not who he claims to be. Neither, she soon discovers, is the undersecretary of energy, Peter Laval. Using computerized voice spectrograms, Dr. Miller identifies fragmentary traces of guttural Arabic consonants in Laval’s otherwise perfect American English. She determines that Laval’s early roots, like Milam’s, are in Cairo. And if Cairo-based conspirators had surreptitiously transplanted both Milam and Laval into the U.S. decades earlier, what other covert Egyptian nationals now held sensitive U.S. government positions? And why had Laval suddenly begun to place so many calls to nuclear power plants? This is the challenge confronting Dr. Noel Parke, the director of the New York region of the Department of Homeland Protection. With the help of the gifted Dr. Miller, Parke must race against time to uncover and dismantle the intricate network of sleeper cells, and uncover the deadly goals of The Cairo Conspiracy.

Book Stained with Blood and Tears

Download or read book Stained with Blood and Tears written by John A. Beadles and published by SIU Press. This book was released on 2019-09-10 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Packed with villains, victims, and heroes, Stained with Blood and Tears recounts the story of what has been called the “equal opportunity” lynchings of Will “Froggie” James, who was black, and Henry Salzner, a white man, in the rowdy river town of Cairo, Illinois, on November 11, 1909. This book is the first to focus on one of the most infamous nights of lynching in the history of the United States, when about one thousand men and women were transformed into a murderous mob. The book also details a lesser-known attempted lynching of a suspected purse snatcher by another mob about ninety days later. That mob was beaten back by about a dozen mostly African American deputies and a white sheriff. Stained with Blood and Tears ends with the saga of the killing of a Cairo policeman in the police station by the sheriff from a neighboring county over an incident that began in a Cairo brothel. The book thoroughly examines a dark side of Cairo’s past when it had a Jim Crow mind-set and crooked policemen and was awash in liquor and teeming with prostitutes and gambling houses. The violence of the era led the town’s Catholic priest to lament, “Must this fair city of ours go ever in garments spattered with blood?”

Book Breaking the Mirror of Heaven

Download or read book Breaking the Mirror of Heaven written by Robert Bauval and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2012-07-26 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exposes the many cycles of monument destruction and cultural suppression in Egypt from antiquity to the present day • Details the vandalism of Egyptian antiquities and suppression of ancient knowledge under foreign rulers who sought to cleanse Egypt of its “pagan” past • Reveals the real reason behind Napoleon’s invasion of Egypt: Freemasonry • Shows how the censorship of nonofficial Egyptology as well as new archaeological discoveries continued under Antiquities Minister Zahi Hawass Called the “Mirror of Heaven” by Hermes-Thoth and regarded as the birthplace of civilization, science, religion, and magic, Egypt has ignited the imagination of all who come in contact with it since ancient times--from Pythagoras and Plato to Alexander the Great and Napoleon to modern Egyptologists the world over. Yet, despite this preeminence in the collective mind, Egypt has suffered considerable destruction over the centuries. Even before the burning of the Great Library at Alexandria, the land of the pharaohs was pillaged by its own people. With the arrival of foreign rulers, both Arabic and European, the destruction and thievery continued along with suppression of ancient knowledge as some rulers sought to cleanse Egypt of its “pagan” past. Exploring the many cycles of destruction and suppression in Egypt as well as moments of salvation, such as the first registered excavations by Auguste Mariette, Robert Bauval and Ahmed Osman investigate the many conquerors of Egypt through the millennia as well as what has happened to famous artifacts such as the Rosetta Stone. They show how Napoleon, through his invasion, wanted to revive ancient Egyptian wisdom and art because of its many connections to Freemasonry. They reveal how the degradation of monuments, theft of relics, and censorship of ancient teachings continue to this day. Exposing recent cover-ups during the tenure of Antiquities Minister Zahi Hawass, they explain how new discoveries at Giza were closed to further research. Clearing cultural and historical distortions, the authors reveal the long-hidden and persecuted voice of ancient Egypt and call for the return of Egypt to its rightful place as “the Mother of Nations” and “the Mirror of Heaven.”
