After several months of being trapped by this evil witch, he is finally set free. He has been set free accidently by a very special young girl. The second member of the family of seven to be trapped by the evil witch is the daughter of the family. Her father seeks help from the very special young girl who set him free. But the young girls father will not allow her to help. So he leaves and goes back to where his daughter is trapped. If he cannot free her, at least he can be near her. Much to his surprise, the young girl and her father show up at his door one day. They have come to help him free his daughter. He already has a plan in place to free his daughter. But it will not work without this special young girl. So when this special young girl and her father show up, he is thrilled. The girl is there for only two days when she is able to free the mans daughter. The fathers and the daughters spend time together, celebrating freedom. It is not long after the very special young girl and her father leave that the evil witch is stalking another member of the family. This takes the freed father and daughter on a train ride that is grueling, to say the least. They end up in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Will this evil witch get to their family before they do?

Book excerpt: Chaser has a way with words. She knows over a thousand of them—more than any other animal of any species except humans. In addition to common nouns like house, ball, and tree, she has memorized the names of more than one thousand toys and can retrieve any of them on command. Based on that learning, she and her owner and trainer, retired psychologist John Pilley, have moved on to further impressive feats, demonstrating her ability to understand sentences with multiple elements of grammar and to learn new behaviors by imitation. John’s ingenuity and tenacity as a researcher are as impressive as Chaser’s accomplishments. His groundbreaking approach has opened the door to a new understanding of animal intelligence, one that requires us to reconsider what actually goes on in a dog’s mind. Chaser’s achievements reveal her use of deductive reasoning and complex problem-solving skills to address novel challenges. Yet astonishingly, Chaser isn’t unique. John’s training methods can be adopted by any dog lover. Through the poignant story of how he trained Chaser, raised her as a member of the Pilley family, and proved her abilities to the scientific community, he reveals the positive impact of incorporating learning into play and more effectively channeling a dog’s natural drives. John’s work with Chaser offers a fresh perspective on what’s possible in the relationship between a dog and a human. His story points us toward a new way of relating to our canine companions that takes into account our evolving understanding of the way animals and humans learn.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This pictorial history of the infamous Nazi tank presents a full account—in words and photographs—of Hitler’s most fearsome and versatile war machine. Throughout the Second World War, the Panzerkampfwagen Mk IV proved to be the one constant in Hitler's Panzerwaffe. It was the German equivalent of the American Sherman and the Soviet T-34. In this pictorial history, military expert Anthony Tucker-Jones provides a concise account of the Mk IV's design, development and performance in combat. The Mk IV served on every major front: in France, the Balkans, North Africa, the Soviet Union and, at the end of the war, in Germany itself. It was a key weapon in the blitzkrieg attacks and in the later desperate defense of the Reich. Using more than 150 rare wartime photographs, plus a selection of specially commissioned color images, Tucker-Jones illustrates how the initial design of the Mk IV was refined throughout the war to counter the design advances in Allied tanks and anti-tank guns. While the Mk IV was never produced in the same numbers as the leading Allied tanks, it was one of the most important armored vehicles of the Second World War.

Book Down Mason City s Memory Lane

Download or read book Down Mason City s Memory Lane written by Dale C. Fancher and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2007-07 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mason City, Illinois, a tiny rural community in the heart of the Midwest, is the setting for Dale Fancher's book of reflections and memories of a day gone by. A lifelong resident of Mason City, Fancher has a keen mind, and a heart for the quaint, easily lost memories of youth: From bathing in a galvanized washtub, to trailing behind the ice-delivery truck to beg shards of ice on a hot day; from fishing at Salt Creek at night and listening to the bobcats, to World War II blackouts. Reading Fancher's book, one becomes familiar with local characters like Kenny Hanover, still barbering after fifty years, and Edna Sylvie, the barefoot taxi lady. Told as a series of "Remember when .?" and "Did you ever .?" snippets, reading this book is like flipping through an old family photo album.

Sought after by collectors, this re-printed edition showcases Gruelle's original text, further enhanced by his wonderful colour drawings. Gruelle (1880 - 1930), was an American artist and political cartoonist, as well as a children's book illustrator and author. Gruelle created Raggedy Ann for his daughter, Marcella, when she brought him an old hand-made rag doll. He drew a face on it, and from his bookshelf, pulled a book of poems by James Whitcomb Riley, combining the names of two poems, 'The Raggedy Man' and 'Little Orphant Annie.' From this moment on, the much-loved children's series went from strength to strength. Pook Press celebrates the great ‘Golden Age of Illustration‘ in children’s literature – a period of unparalleled excellence in book illustration. We publish rare and vintage Golden Age illustrated books, in high-quality colour editions, so that the masterful artwork and story-telling can continue to delight both young and old.

Book excerpt: Nerd gangstas, weed, and The Boss combine in a darkly comedic story of resurrecting shattered dreams within a bureaucratic circus. Fight Club meets a Half-Baked Big Bang Theory with a CSI twist in an Office Space, but only cake gets punched. Yes, that's right, cake. Pharmers is a fictional story written for the newly found literary genre of 'dark nerd-comedy'. Meet Deymann, a down and out medicinal scientist slaving away in corporate America. He feels trapped in a godless machine, toiling for the Boss and a thick-witted supervisor, a man he calls Dummy-Bear (not to his face, but he probably wouldn't get it anyway). After surviving the most embarrassing Piñata debacle in human history, Deymann meets a secret white-collar group of misfits knows as the Pharmers, who help him break out of his rut with some corporate espionage and herbal chemistry experimentation. What's that smoke and funny odor coming from the incinerator? Did I hear laughter in there?
