Book The Bridge of Perfect Wisdom

Download or read book The Bridge of Perfect Wisdom written by Rupa Monerawela and published by Paragon Publishing. This book was released on 2013-07 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China's Cultural Revolution brought a halt to the everyday life of ordinary citizens, and the monotonous routine of daily life was disturbed by political accusations made by 'Red Guards'. The writer gives vivid descriptions of incidents: the burning of antiques, destroying artists' work, desecrating religious places of worship and attacking the religious beliefs of the people. Forty seven years have now elapsed, and the present generation of Chinese may be able to understand some of the political developments that opened up the country, liberalising the economy, and the beginning of some form of individual freedom. Although living in the diplomatic enclave, the writer seized the opportunity to gather information from a cross section of Chinese, and from translations of the local newspaper Shinhwa. She is sympathetic to Chairman Mao's idealism but with the advent of indisciplined and immature groups of Red Guards negating the democratic communist dream, the heroine in the novel naively believes different things could be achieved. The story is fact and fiction, as firsthand incidents that took place bring out the authenticity of this historical period in China. The characters are fictitious and if there is any resemblance to actual people it is entirely coincidental. This is the work of an author moving in an environment of diplomats and politicians during a very volatile period. Gill Graham Maw July 2013

Book The Bridge from Onedaybow

Download or read book The Bridge from Onedaybow written by Kathy M. Warden and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2016-08-01 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bridge from OneDayBow is a fictional and poetic portrayal of the Gospel. It is clever and entertaining, and yet illustrates some of the deception, moral corruption, and decay that is now and has affected societies since the garden. It exposes the battle we face and reveals the means provided to stand in His mighty strength, while we wait for our coming salvation. If the Lord tarries, I would not be surprised if it became one of the great Christian classics in the genre of Pilgrims Progress. Young and old will enjoy this book, and perhaps some will cross the bridge to the King and be saved. Pastor Nick Triveri Senior Pastor, Calvary Chapel Placerville Truth doesnt matter to most people in HereAndNowat least not much. And the idea of an absolute Truth, with real Authority behind it, is well, best not to even mention. But, if there really is a King, and a Bridge built by His Son that leads to OneDayBow, that could change everything for Tim! In HereAndNow everyone is encouraged to collect bobbles, for their own good and the benefit of all societyor so the tempters say. But, whats a bobble worth, really? And why are they important to the tower and the future of humanity? Tim spent his young life pursuing bobbles in hopes of winning the Great Bobble Game. Though no one knows how many it takes to win, or what the prize actually is, you sure dont want to reach the citys end without having the most! The tempters will be the first to tell you that but, tempters cant be trusted... And all this makes Tim wonder why the tempters are so interested in his nooma, and willing to pay so much for it. Tim needs to know the Truth. Is the answer on the other side of the Bridge? One thing Tim is certain of: There must be more to life than bobbles.

Book Buddhist Hagiography in Early Japan

Download or read book Buddhist Hagiography in Early Japan written by Jonathan Morris Augustine and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-10-21 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hagiographies or idealized biographies which recount the lives of saints, bodhisattvas and other charismatic figures have been the meeting place for myth and experience. In medieval Europe, the 'lives of saints' were read during liturgical celebrations and the texts themselves were treated as sacred objects. In Japan, it was believed that those who read the biographies of lofty monks would acquire merit. Since hagiographies were written or compiled by 'believers', the line between fantasy and reality was often obscured. This study of the bodhisattva Gyoki - regarded as the monk who started the largest social welfare movement in Japan - illustrates how Japanese Buddhist hagiographers chose to regard a single monk's charitable activities as a miraculous achievement that shaped the course of Japanese history.

Book excerpt: I have crossed the perfect bridge many times. If I didn’t look for the bridge, I’d be perpetually stuck in the face of a rut. Sometimes the bridge is easy to see when the way seems impassable. Other times, I have had to search, sometimes plead, to be shown the way. Curiously, the bridge is always the same one. It looks a bit different to me in every season, but the journey across has become increasingly inviting. It is also becoming increasingly easier to recognize. In this book of poems and Scripture meditations, I invite you to join me for my walk. Listen with me a moment to the birds singing. Visualize the miraculous growth of a tree. Contemplate the colors of autumn’s reflections, and bundle up to make some footprints as we walk together across the icy snow. The bridge will hold us, and I believe we will, together, find joy in the journey through the seasons of life.

Book Wisdom in Christian Tradition

Download or read book Wisdom in Christian Tradition written by Marcus Plested and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022-06-09 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following a survey of the biblical and classical background, Wisdom in Christian Tradition offers a detailed exploration of the theme of wisdom in patristic, Byzantine, and medieval theology, up to and including Gregory Palamas and Thomas Aquinas in Greek East and Latin West, respectively. Three principal levels of Christian wisdom discourse are distinguished: wisdom as human attainment, wisdom as divine gift, and wisdom as an attribute or quality of God. This journey through Wisdom in Christian Tradition is undertaken in conversation with modern Russian Sophiology, one of the most popular and widely discussed theological movements of our time. Sophiology is characterized by the idea of a primal pre-principle of divineâhuman unity (âSophiaâ) manifest in both uncreated and created forms and constituting the very foundation of all that is. Sophiology is a complex phenomenon with multiple sources and inspirations, very much including the Church Fathers. Indeed, fidelity to patristic tradition was to become an ever-increasing feature of its self-understanding and self-articulation, above all in the work of its greatest exponent, Fr Sergius Bulgakov (1871â1944). This âunmodern turnâ (as it is here christened) to patristic sources has, however, long been fiercely contested. This book is the first to evaluate thoroughly the nature and substance of Sophiologyâs claim to patristic continuity. The final chapter offers a radical re-thinking of Sophiology in line with patristic tradition. This constructive proposal maintains Sophiologyâs most distinctive insights and most pertinent applications while divesting it of some its more problematic elements.
