Download or read book Music is Magic Music is Medicine written by Dr. Siddhartha Ganguli and published by Allied Publishers. This book was released on 2023-06-13 with total page 620 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘Neuro-management’ (‘NM’), classifies ‘Happiness’ into: ‘Smart Happiness’ that comes transiently with a smart release of the happiness neuro-chemical Dopamine; ‘Short-lived’ or ‘Short Happiness’ where the happy experience is retained a little longer and then gets stored in the long-term memory storage, retrievable on demand; and, finally, ‘Sustained Happiness’ which is long-lasting. ‘Bio-musicology’ is an offshoot of ‘NM’. It deals with the impact of music on body, brain, mind and soul. This book discusses, with diverse examples, how music can have ‘magical’ effects producing both ‘Smart’ and ‘Short’ varieties of happiness. The author believes that, if properly applied with clear understanding of the patient’s pathology and the impact of the sonic vibrations, music can also serve as ‘medicine’ and provide ‘Sustained Happiness’.
Download or read book From Neurons to Neighborhoods written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2000-11-13 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How we raise young children is one of today's most highly personalized and sharply politicized issues, in part because each of us can claim some level of "expertise." The debate has intensified as discoveries about our development-in the womb and in the first months and years-have reached the popular media. How can we use our burgeoning knowledge to assure the well-being of all young children, for their own sake as well as for the sake of our nation? Drawing from new findings, this book presents important conclusions about nature-versus-nurture, the impact of being born into a working family, the effect of politics on programs for children, the costs and benefits of intervention, and other issues. The committee issues a series of challenges to decision makers regarding the quality of child care, issues of racial and ethnic diversity, the integration of children's cognitive and emotional development, and more. Authoritative yet accessible, From Neurons to Neighborhoods presents the evidence about "brain wiring" and how kids learn to speak, think, and regulate their behavior. It examines the effect of the climate-family, child care, community-within which the child grows.
Download or read book Biological Neural Networks Hierarchical Concept of Brain Function written by Konstantin V. Baev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to a novel conceptual theoretical framework of neuro science and is an attempt to show that we can postulate a very small number of assumptions and utilize their heuristics to explain a very large spectrum of brain phenomena. The major assumption made in this book is that inborn and acquired neural automatisms are generated according to the same func tional principles. Accordingly, the principles that have been revealed experi mentally to govern inborn motor automatisms, such as locomotion and scratching, are used to elucidate the nature of acquired or learned automat isms. This approach allowed me to apply the language of control theory to describe functions of biological neural networks. You, the reader, can judge the logic of the conclusions regarding brain phenomena that the book derives from these assumptions. If you find the argument flawless, one can call it common sense and consider that to be the best praise for a chain of logical conclusions. For the sake of clarity, I have attempted to make this monograph as readable as possible. Special attention has been given to describing some of the concepts of optimal control theory in such a way that it will be under standable to a biologist or physician. I have also included plenty of illustra tive examples and references designed to demonstrate the appropriateness and applicability of these conceptual theoretical notions for the neurosciences.
Download or read book Exploring the Collective Unconscious in the Age of Digital Media written by Schafer, Stephen Brock and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2016-01-28 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For decades we have witnessed the emergence of a media age of illusion that is based on the principles of physics—the multidimensionality, immateriality, and non-locality of the unified field of energy and information—as a virtual reality. As a result, a new paradigm shift has reframed the cognitive unconscious of individuals and collectives and generated a worldview in which mediated illusion prevails. Exploring the Collective Unconscious in a Digital Age investigates the cognitive significance of an altered mediated reality that appears to have all the dimensions of a dreamscape. This book presents the idea that if the digital media-sphere proves to be structurally and functionally analogous to a dreamscape, the Collective Unconscious researched by Carl Jung and the Cognitive Unconscious researched by George Lakoff are susceptible to research according to the parameters of hard science. This pivotal research-based publication is ideally designed for use by psychologists, theorists, researchers, and graduate-level students studying human cognition and the influence of the digital media revolution.
