Book Toy Trains

Download or read book Toy Trains written by Bob Leggett and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2019-04-18 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 00 gauge train set was the ultimate 'boy's toy' of the 1950s and '60s. Electric 00 gauge trains were introduced by Trix and Hornby Dublo in the mid-1930s, but the Second World War quickly halted production. However, they burst back onto the post-war scene with great success, and 00 quickly became the dominant scale in Britain, and was taken up by other large manufacturers including Tri-ang. Whilst the components of the sets themselves were often basic, they could be transformed into astonishing landscapes in the hands of imaginative builders. The sheer number of box sets, locomotives, rolling stock, buildings and accessories gave everyone the ability to form a bespoke layout. This beautifully illustrated introduction to the heyday of clockwork and electric 00 gauge trains tells their story up until 1975, when finer detailing and changing trends led to them becoming enthusiasts' models rather than children's toys.

Book A Little Boy And His Trains

Download or read book A Little Boy And His Trains written by Dr. Gene (Dandy) Crumbley and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2005-05-17 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book,“A Little Boy and His Trains“, came about because of a little boy and his love of trains and anything that had to do with trains. The book is an “almost true” story beginning with his very first train book which happened to be the famous little blue tank engine. Each page tells a story about a train toy that Craig had and played with, and train shows, train exhibits, or train rides which Craig and Dandy did together. One of the rides was an exciting trip to Plains, GA,the hometown of former President Jimmy Carter. A color picture on each page shows exactly what that story is about, except on a couple of pages where permission to use a picture was not granted. This story really had it's beginning when Craig was visiting his grandfather whom he calls Dandy. They were on the porch and Craig was playing with one of his toy trains when a train horn sounded far off in the distance, and he wanted to "go find that train. So they hopped in the car and started out to find that train. After some time of riding up and down different roads, they finally saw the train, and then chased it, and beat it back to the town from where they started. In between the "first train book" and "chasing the train" are stories that children of any age will find very interesting and delightful. Parents and Grandparents will enjoy reading these stories to their children and grandchildren, and older children will enjoy putting themselves in Craig's shoes as they follow his adventures with the trains. This story is a true story except for one part, which makes it an "almost true"story. It is up to the reader to guess which part that is!

Book excerpt: To commemorate the milestone of Lionel Train Company's 100th anniversary comes an updated second edition of ALL ABOARD!, the marvelous story of Joshua Lionel Cowen and the toy trains he created. Originally published in 1981, ALL ABOARD! brings back the classic electric trains for all those who remember them. The Santa Fe came in gleaming silver and shiny red. The New York Central was gray and white. World War I models carried seige guns, a 1957 engine came in pink for girls. There were Pullmans and steam locomotives, Lehigh Valley coal cars, lumber cars, and a design from 1964 that carried radioactive waste and the Mercury capsule. A&E Network named Lionel trains a "Top Ten Toy" of the century-#4 specifically. But the story of Lionel trains is far from over. Co-owned by rock star Neil Young, who bought the company because of his autistic son's love for the trains, the Lionel Train Company is stronger than ever, and is evolving with the times by employing remote control, sound chips, and other technical innovations. With 32 all-new pages and scores of colorful illustrations from the archives of Lionel catalogs, ALL ABOARD! is the definitive collector's book on the subject.
