  • ISBN : 0857907085
  • Pages : 562 pages

Download or read book Kidnapped Catriona written by Robert Louis Stevenson and published by Birlinn. This book was released on 2013-06-24 with total page 562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In "Kidnapped" (1886) and later fiction such as "The Master of Ballantrae" (1888), Stevenson examined some of the extreme and contrary currents of Scotland's past, often projecting a dualism of both personality and belief. This dualism is most famous in "Kidnapped", whose two central characters are David Balfour, a Lowland Whig, and Alan Breck Stewart, a Highland Jacobite. The novel revolves around their friendship and their differences, suggesting a metaphor for Scotland itself. Stevenson wrote the sequel "Catriona" with the title David Balfour, but during serialisation in England the public became confused, thinking it might be a reprint of "Kidnapped". At publisher Cassell's request, the title was changed to "Catriona", after Balfour's daughter.

Book Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Review

Download or read book Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Review written by Neil Barron and published by Wildside Press LLC. This book was released on 2009-11-01 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Science Fiction & Fantasy Book Review" was founded in 1979 to provide comprehensive coverage of all the major and minor books being released in the genre at that time. This was the golden era of SF publishing, with a thousand titles (old and new) hitting the stands and the bookshelves each and every year. From the older classics to the newest speculative fiction, this was the period when the best and the brightest shined forth their talents. SF&FBR included reviews by writers in the field, by amateur critics, and by litterateurs and University professors. Over a thousand books were covered during the single year of publication, many of them having been reviewed no where else, before or since. The January 1980 issue includes a comprehensive index of all the works featured during the preceding year. This reprint will be a welcome addition to the literature of science fiction and fantasy criticism. Neil Barron is a retired bibliographer and literary critic, editor of the acclaimed "Anatomy of Wonder" series. Robert Reginald was the publisher for twenty-five years of Borgo Press, and has authored over 110 books of his own."

Book Donald G Bloesch

Download or read book Donald G Bloesch written by Paul Maher and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Donald G. Bloesch is among the most important American theologians of the 20th and early 21st centuries. He calls himself a "catholic evangelical" and indeed, his appeal is as wide as those terms imply. His work has appeared in Catholic religious periodicals as well as many varieties of Protestant publications, both mainstream and lesser known. As a prolific author, Bloesch's writing is scattered across a large number of journals, many of which are difficult to access, and reviews of his work appear in an even larger range of forums. Donald G. Bloesch: A Research Bibliography collocates as many relevant resources on Bloesch's writing as possible. The book provides a chronological listing and description of each work written by Bloesch, as well as reviews of Bloesch's writing. Each entry gives the title, publication details, and notes about the relationship of the item described to other publications. Several indexes are also included, giving a checklist of books by Bloesch, a checklist of books to which Bloesch has contributed, and a list of book reviews that Bloesch has written about other authors. Finally, there is an alphabetical index of titles, names, and periodicals cited in the bibliography, making this the most comprehensive resource available on Bloesch.

Book Book of Mormon Authorship Revisited

Download or read book Book of Mormon Authorship Revisited written by Noel B. Reynolds and published by Maxwell Institute. This book was released on 1997 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints view the Book of Mormon as scripture written by ancient prophets, while critics believe that it is a 19th-century fraud. The 15 essays in Book of Mormon Authorship Revisited present the latest research by LDS scholars on the question in an effort to demonstrate that the weight of scholarly evidence is on the side of authenticity. Part 1 contains essays dealing with accounts of how the book was produced in 1829 and 1830, with emphasis on the translation process and the witnesses who saw the plates. Part 2 takes a look at the logical structure of the authorship debate and reviews the history of alternative theories and criticisms of the Book of Mormon. Part 3 presents textual studies that demonstrate the plausibility of the Book of Mormon as an ancient book, and part 4 updates scholars' attempts to understand the ancient cultural and geographic setting of the book in both the Old and New Worlds.
