N: Why didn’t you just walk away? R: I tried, but she grabbed my arm. Hey, why didn’t you do anything to stop it? N: I couldn’t. I was afraid, and I didn’t want the bully to get me, too. R: I understand. Next time, go get a teacher to help. Part B: Indirect Bullying Noah stops Ruth after class. 諾亞下課後把露絲攔住。 (Noah = N ; Ruth = R) N: Why didn’t you share the answers to the big science test? N: What did you do about that? R: I asked her nicely to stop, but she just laughed at me. N: Did you try telling a teacher? Maybe they can help. R: Yes, many times, but they can’t do anything without proof. Part C: Cyberbullying Noah shows Ruth something on his cell phone. 諾亞給露絲看他手機裡的東西。 (Noah = N ; Ruth = R) N: Wow! Where did you get it? N: Brittany sent it to me. It’s also all over Facebook. R: I know. I already asked that person to take the photo down. N: Well, they didn’t. What are you going to do? R: I’m going to tell the social media site about them. Download or read book The Cajuns written by Shane K. Bernard and published by Univ. Press of Mississippi. This book was released on 2009-09-28 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The past sixty years have shaped and reshaped the group of French-speaking Louisiana people known as the Cajuns. During this period they have become much like other Americans and yet have remained strikingly distinct. The Cajuns: Americanization of a People explores these six decades and analyzes the forces that had an impact on Louisiana's Acadiana. In the 1940s, when America entered World War II, so too did the isolated Cajuns. Cajun soldiers fought alongside troops from Brooklyn and Berkeley and absorbed aspects of new cultures. In the 1950s as rock 'n' roll and television crackled across Louisiana airwaves, Cajun music makers responded with their own distinct versions. In the 1960s, empowerment and liberation movements turned the South upside down. During the 1980s, as things Cajun became an absorbing national fad, "Cajun" became a kind of brand identity used for selling everything from swamp tours to boxed rice dinners. At the dawn of the twenty-first century, the advent of a new information age launched "Cyber-Cajuns" onto a worldwide web. All these forces have pushed and pulled at the fabric of Cajun life but have not destroyed it. A Cajun himself, the author of this book has an intense personal fascination in his people. By linking seemingly local events in the Cajuns' once isolated south Louisiana homeland to national and even global events, Bernard demonstrates that by the middle of the twentieth century the Cajuns for the first time in their ethnic story were engulfed in the currents of mainstream American life and yet continued to make outstandingly distinct contributions.

Download or read book The Top 100 American Situation Comedies written by Mitchell E. Shapiro and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-10-27 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A number of books and articles have been written ranking the best situation comedies of all time. These have all had something in common--subjective criteria based on the authors' opinions. This book attempts an objective ranking of the best 100 American sitcoms, based on a mathematical formula taking into account four factors: ratings, longevity, peer acceptance and spawning of other programs (spin-offs). The authors considered a field of 377 series which met at least one of four criteria: aired for at least three seasons; rated among top 30 series in at least one season; received at least one major Emmy nomination; or spawned at least one other series. A critical essay is provided for each series, along with air dates and cast listings.
Download or read book Drive in Dream Girls written by Tom Lisanti and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-05-07 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the 1960s, a bushel of B-movies were produced and aimed at the predominantly teenage drive-in movie audience. At first teens couldn't get enough of the bikini-clad beauties dancing on the beach or being wooed by Elvis Presley, but by 1966 young audiences became more interested in the mini-skirted, go-go boot wearing, independent-minded gals of spy spoofs, hot rod movies and biker flicks. Profiled herein are fifty sexy, young actresses that teenage girls envied and teenage boys desired including Quinn O'Hara, Melody Patterson, Hilarie Thompson, Donna Loren, Pat Priest, Meredith MacRae, Arlene Martel, Cynthia Pepper, and Beverly Washburn. Some like Sue Ane Langdon, Juliet Prowse, Marlyn Mason, and Carole Wells, appeared in major studio productions while others, such as Regina Carrol, Susan Hart, Angelique Pettyjohn and Suzie Kaye were relegated to drive-in movies only. Each biography contains a complete filmography. Some also include the actresses' candid comments and anecdotes about their films, the people they worked with, and their feelings about acting. A list of web sites that provide further information is also included.
