Uplifting, instructive, and describes so much of what fathers should aspire to in their relationship with their children." -Herb Rubenstein, Sustainable Business Group "Raising a Father provides a very candid and honest assessment of the everyday obstacles we all face in trying to attain the proper work-life balance." - Peter J. It was clear he referred to spending less time with family, not being there for children's special moments, and similar "small" sacrifices in personal life. Sen learns the hard way that these sacrifices come with large costs, and in Raising a Father he recounts his journey to this realization. Foreseeing his father-daughter future reduced to obligatory phone calls on birthdays and Father's Day, Sen leaves corporate America. He founds a home-based marketing consulting company in Denver, his ten-year-old daughter's favorite city; names his daughter as manager; and begins the real journey of becoming a true father. In this memoir, Sen discusses how he now measures success differently. Raising a Father tells the story of how a young girl uses her charm, her love, and her caring nature to train her dad to become a better father and a better person.

Book excerpt: Good Ol' Pete's Hood-Raising Adventures: Whitmore's Creek is a short story about an American family, the Whitmores, who were privileged to inherit generational wealth by means of a flourishing cropping industry since the mid-eighteenth century. Now that we are in the twenty-first century, an ominous 110-year-old curse that has desecrated the Whitmores' private estate is unveiled by a secret coalition. Strategically, these vigilantes organize a fight in pursuit for justice in reclaiming the deserted property as the Whitmore descendants' rightful inheritance. Arising from the shadows, critters join together to eradicate the elusive creatures, which ravaged the land of the Whitmore estate. The story of the Whitmore family's anguish and the ominous occurrences on the island resulting from their restless souls is narrated by a "down-to-earth" Black American teenage girl who rides in a big rig with her furry companion and her dad named Russ. The young teen has major depressive disorder (MDD) and general anxiety disorder (GAD) and is grateful for receiving mental health treatment by means of group counseling. Frequently, the teen utilizes her faith and the tools she learns in the group sessions to help reduce her disorder symptoms. She appreciates having a family and best friend who are a great source of emotional support. The teen's family appears to have a unique relationship with Ol' Pete, who is a Peterbilt truck and who embodies the angelic spirit of the previous owner. The big rig and his quirky friends serve as the family's protector during many hair-raising events throughout the story. The teen joins her dad on an adventure down South to pick up her best friend. The crew is looking forward to a relaxing trip returning to the north when destiny intervenes. Suddenly, a foreboding occurrence, which leads the crew to the Whitmore estate, has foiled their original plans. So sit tight as the teen shares with you her mysterious adventure with Ol' Pete as they all face many perils of haunting occurrences at the island of Whitmore's Creek. We hope you and a special loved one will find Good Ol' Pete and his zany friends' ghoulish adventures on the creepy island enlightening.

Book excerpt: Fifty-eight-year-old Dean Floogleman, a retired burned-out engineer who had abandoned his dreams long ago, returns to the place that he was most happy, the beach. He hopes to reboot his life, but instead he gets much more than he bargains for. Raising The Oblivity is a piece of modern-day fiction about pulling up stakes and moving to Ocracoke, a barrier island along the Outer Banks of North Carolina. There Dean encounters three old salts, sea captain Bob Hansen, retired professor Cleaton Beckley, and retired reverend Hal Wriggley who constitute the crew of the schooner The Oblivity. The schooner is modified to resemble a pirate ship and provides sailing excursions for handicapped children and their parents. When Dean arrives in Ocracoke, The Oblivity is partially sunk in the island's lagoon due to a previous storm. The three old salts enlist Dean to help raise and restore her. At the same time, Dean meets and falls in love with a lovely and spunky real estate agent, Natalie Rochelle, who knows the three old salts well for years. These five people are thrown together to restore the beloved schooner and unknowingly find themselves being restored from the suffering of the events of their own lives. As these people work together to restore the schooner, they confront personal challenges and obstacles to find hope, healing, and redemption. The literary genre is romantic comedy. Each of these people has a story to tell, which is told with humor, adventure, and romance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No philosophical idea, no matter how small, can live alone. Ideas always gain their force, power, and life from their surroundings - their ecosystem. The ecosystem of ideas defended in this book comes from the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle and his medieval interpreter, Thomas Aquinas. The ongoing relevance of their philosophical thought to twenty-first century issues is opened up in fascinating ways in this book. Life, the Universe, and Everything is the product of thirty years of teaching introductory courses in philosophy. Assuming no prior background, it only requires of readers an enquiring mind and a willingness to think carefully. An ideal guide to the big questions we face.
