  • Author : Helmut Schwichtenberg
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Driven by the question, 'What is the computational content of a (formal) proof?', this book studies fundamental interactions between proof theory and computability. It provides a unique self-contained text for advanced students and researchers in mathematical logic and computer science. Part I covers basic proof theory, computability and Gödel's theorems. Part II studies and classifies provable recursion in classical systems, from fragments of Peano arithmetic up to Π11–CA0. Ordinal analysis and the (Schwichtenberg–Wainer) subrecursive hierarchies play a central role and are used in proving the 'modified finite Ramsey' and 'extended Kruskal' independence results for PA and Π11–CA0. Part III develops the theoretical underpinnings of the first author's proof assistant MINLOG. Three chapters cover higher-type computability via information systems, a constructive theory TCF of computable functionals, realizability, Dialectica interpretation, computationally significant quantifiers and connectives and polytime complexity in a two-sorted, higher-type arithmetic with linear logic.

Book Windows onto Jewish Legal Culture

Download or read book Windows onto Jewish Legal Culture written by Hanina Ben-Menahem and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-06-30 with total page 700 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book opens windows onto various aspects of Jewish legal culture. Rather than taking a structural approach, and attempting to circumscribe and define ‘every’ element of Jewish law, Windows onto Jewish Legal Culture takes a dynamic and holistic approach, describing diverse manifestations of Jewish legal culture, and its general mind-set, without seeking to fit them into a single structure. Jewish legal culture spans two millennia, and evolved in geographic centers that were often very distant from one another both geographically and socio-culturally. It encompasses the Talmud and talmudic literature, the law codes, the rulings of rabbinical courts, the responsa literature, decisions taken by communal leaders, study of the law in talmudic academies, the local study hall, and the home. But Jewish legal culture reaches well beyond legal and quasi-legal institutions; it addresses, and is reflected in, every aspect of daily life, from meals and attire to interpersonal and communal relations. Windows onto Jewish Legal Culture gives the reader a taste of the tremendous weight of Jewish legal culture within Jewish life. Among the facets of Jewish legal culture explored are two of its most salient distinguishing features, namely, toleration and even encouragement of controversy, and a preference for formalistic formulations. These features are widely misunderstood, and Jewish legal culture is often parodied as hair-splitting argument for the sake of argument. In explaining the epistemic imperatives that motivate Jewish legal culture, however, this book paints a very different picture. Situational constraints and empirical considerations are shown to provide vital input into legal determinations at every level, and the legal process is revealed to be attentive to context and sensitive to cultural concerns.

William Benson knows what it's like to be accused of something you didn't do - the fear, the vulnerability and the nightmare of watching your life unravel. Now he speaks on behalf of those who have no voice, defending anyone who claims to be innocent. This time, it's Karmen Naylor, estranged daughter of a south London crime boss, fighting a murder charge and desperate to be believed. But Benson becomes trapped into a grudge match between two rival clans, endangering himself and those he loves. Tess de Vere is by Benson's side but she's keeping something from him. A stranger on the trail of a secret death squad operating in Northern Ireland during the Troubles brings a terrible secret into the heart of her own life. And he won't go away. Can Tess and Will find their way through all the secrets and the lies? Should justice always be served - and if so, at what cost? Praise for the Benson and de Vere series 'Assured storytelling and highly intriguing moral complexity. I tore through it' Chris Brookmyre 'The courtroom scenes are brilliant, and Benson really comes alive under pressure. Stubborn, fitful and contradictory, he's a highly individualised creation' Spectator 'Punchy dialogue and devious plotlines . . . compelling' The Times

Book Definitive scientific proof of the Divinity of the Arabic script

Download or read book Definitive scientific proof of the Divinity of the Arabic script written by Nurul Kabir and published by Nurul Kabir. This book was released on 2020-09-05 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a compilation of my 3 articles published in ResearchGate: 1) Definitive scientific proof of the Divinity of the Arabic script; 2) Evidence of a highly intelligent, built-in scientific design in the Arabic script and 3) Unique biological and scientific connections in novel single letter meanings of the classical Arabic. In these papers I show that the Arabic script is Divine because it uniquely defines the meaning of each words by the shape of the letters and the letters draw a picture of the meaning. Each letter has independent meaning and even the empty spaces or dots of the Arabic script have definitive meanings which appear to have a profound scientific basis related to different human body parts or other natural phenomenon. This pictorial nature of the built-in scientific principles extends to words for atom or butterfly which depict the structure of the atom or butterfly’s life-cycle, unbelievable as it may sound. The findings of this book imply that the theories of language development in humans based on mimicry of animal sounds are incorrect. This book also would greatly simplify the learning of the Arabic language because of the principles of single-letter meanings.
