Book The Armour Engineer Vol 1

Download or read book The Armour Engineer Vol 1 written by Tracy W. Simpson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-10 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Armour Engineer, Vol. 1: The Semi-Annual Technical Publication of the Student Body of Armour Institute of Technology; January, 1909 Minimum service values are allowed for the various units which from point of age, might make the value of the unit equivalent to junk only, though it would be in useful operation. For instance, electric meters, which are subject to state or municipal inspection. Or both, and have to be kept in a certain state of repair at all times, are allowed a minimum service value of 80 per cent of the reproduction cost; whereas, with a steam engine that has been in service a number of years but which may be in a good state of repair though not having the same efficiency as a more modern engine. Or sufficiently good to be put in a newly built plant, only 25 per cent Of its re production value is allowed. There is a great diversity Of Opinion among engineers as to the approximate correctness of the above method of arriving at present value. Some engineers claim that each unit should be gone over, first obtaining its reproduction value. And then depreciating it in proportion to the cost Of making the unit practically new. Other engineers think that in addition to the above, a further amount should be deducted for depreciation in propor tion to the change in the art. Book Protective Armor Engineering Design

Download or read book Protective Armor Engineering Design written by Magdi El Messiry and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-09-24 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is increasing interest in the area of protective vests, either for protection against bullets or protection from the most realistic threats within domestic frontline operations: edged weapon, knives, and medical needles. This volume addresses that need. This new book provides an in-depth survey of the state-of-the-art research and practical techniques in the area of protected fabrics, especially stab-resistant and bulletproof fabrics. The book covers: • The history of protective armor: the long history of the art of protective armor manufacturing. • Materials used for body armor: the design and materials used for soft armor to increase its perforation-resistance utilizing high-performance fibers. • Anti-stab and anti-bullet armor design: the different design parameters required for the design of flexible armor in order to stop high-velocity projectiles. • The comfort of the body armor design: the flexibility, thermal resistivity, and evaporative moisture resistivity through the fabric. • Methods of testing the flexible body armors: testing the components of flexible body armor, according to the level of the protection required, such as NIJ Standards, HOSDB Body Armour Standards for UK Police, and the German SK1 Standard, among others. Written by an expert in textile composite material engineering, this volume fills an important gap in the area of protective fabric against stabbing or bullets and provides invaluable practical knowledge for body armor design.

The diameter of each end and the scale was read, and then the volume represented by the scale and the actual volume were both calculated, the latter by considering the log a truncated cone. If the scale in board feet were a true measure of actual volume, then the ratio between scaled volume and actual volume would be practically a con stant. Book Advances In Coastal And Ocean Engineering Vol 1

Download or read book Advances In Coastal And Ocean Engineering Vol 1 written by Philip L-f Liu and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995-02-20 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this review series is to present critical commentaries on knowledge in the field of coastal and ocean engineering. Each article will review and illuminate the development of the scientific understanding of a specific engineering topic. Critical reviews on engineering designs and practices in different countries will also be included. The first volume of the review series is a collection of five papers reviewing a wide range of research topics in coastal engineering. The first paper, written by Yeh, discusses one of the fundamental issues concerning many fluid flow problems, namely, free surface boundary conditions. In the second paper, a survey on another boundary dynamics, the seafloor dynamics is presented. Foda reviews recent studies on the nonlinear wave energy transfer into the seabed and different modes of wave-induced sediment fluidization processes in cohesive as well as in noncohesive seabeds. Several issues concerning the interactions between sediment deposit and marine structures, such as pipeline and breakwater, are also briefly reviewed. One of the active research areas in modeling wave propagation is the construction of a unified model which is valid from deep water to shallow water. Liu discusses several existing models. The sediment movement in the surf zone is a complex system. It can usually be decomposed into the longshore and the cross-shore components. Dean focused his discussion on the cross-shore sediment transport process. In the last paper, van der Meer presents a comprehensive review of the design consideration for a rubble mound breakwater. Both hydraulic and structural responses are discussed. Design formulas and graphs are presented, which can be used for a conceptual design of rubble mount breakwater.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Armour Engineer, Vol. 26: Student Technical Publication of Armour Institute of Technology; November, 1934 The result of Mr. Stevens' work was the selection of a pass which connected the head waters of Nason Creek with Tye River. The pass had an elevation of 4059 feet. Mr. Stevens selected as the maximum grade of the permanent line which was to be located down. Hill on each side from the portals of a projected tunnel, miles long. The summit was to be at the east por tal of this tunnel at an elevation of 3383 feet. The opening of the through line could not be delayed; therefore a switchback route was located over the mountains. This switchback route handled the through traffic of the rail road until December, 1900, when the mile tunnel was completed.
