Book Optical and Digital Image Processing

Download or read book Optical and Digital Image Processing written by Gabriel Cristobal and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-02-12 with total page 949 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, Moore's law has fostered the steady growth of the field of digital image processing, though the computational complexity remains a problem for most of the digital image processing applications. In parallel, the research domain of optical image processing has matured, potentially bypassing the problems digital approaches were suffering and bringing new applications. The advancement of technology calls for applications and knowledge at the intersection of both areas but there is a clear knowledge gap between the digital signal processing and the optical processing communities. This book covers the fundamental basis of the optical and image processing techniques by integrating contributions from both optical and digital research communities to solve current application bottlenecks, and give rise to new applications and solutions. Besides focusing on joint research, it also aims at disseminating the knowledge existing in both domains. Applications covered include image restoration, medical imaging, surveillance, holography, etc... "a very good book that deserves to be on the bookshelf of a serious student or scientist working in these areas." Source: Optics and Photonics News

Book Data Analysis in Astronomy IV

Download or read book Data Analysis in Astronomy IV written by R. Buccheri and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book are reported the main results presented at the "Fourth International Workshop on Data Analysis in Astronomy", held at the Ettore Majorana Center for Scientific Culture, Erice, Sicily, Italy, on April 12-19, 1991. The Workshop was preceded by three workshops on the same subject held in Erice in 1984, 1986 and 1988. The frrst workshop (Erice 1984) was dominated by presentations of "Systems for Data Analysis"; the main systems proposed were MIDAS, AlPS, RIAIP, and SAIA. Methodologies and image analysis topics were also presented with the emphasis on cluster analysis, multivariate analysis, bootstrap methods, time analysis, periodicity, 2D photometry, spectrometry, and data compression. A general presentation on "Parallel Processing" was made which encompassed new architectures, data structures and languages. The second workshop (Erice 1986) reviewed the "Data Handling Systems" planned for large major satellites and ground experiments (VLA, HST, ROSAT, COMPASS-COMPTEL). Data analysis methods applied to physical interpretation were mainly considered (cluster photometry, astronomical optical data compression, cluster analysis for pulsar light curves, coded aperture imaging). New parallel and vectorial machines were presented (cellular machines, PAPIA-machine, MPP-machine, vector computers in astronomy). Contributions in the field of artificial intelligence and planned applications to astronomy were also considered (expert systems, artificial intelligence in computer vision).

Book Tomographic Methods in Nuclear Medicine

Download or read book Tomographic Methods in Nuclear Medicine written by Bhagwat D. Ahluwalia and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-10-26 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication is a compendium of physical principles, system descriptions, instrument quality assurance, and clinical applications of extant tomographic methods in nuclear medicine. Written by an expert in this pertinent field, each chapter deals with the topics in a comprehensive fashion to provide a ready reference of all the work done on the subject and an estimate of the future utilization. Descriptions of methods available to nuclear medicine for tomographic viewing include positron emission, single photon emission, and planar tomography. This is an excellent resource volume of general applicability for nuclear medicine physicians, nuclear medicine scientists, and researchers in organ imaging and processing techniques.

Book Compressive Sensing of Earth Observations

Download or read book Compressive Sensing of Earth Observations written by C.H. Chen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-05-25 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Future remote sensing systems will make extensive use of Compressive Sensing (CS) as it becomes more integrated into the system design with increased high resolution sensor developments and the rising earth observation data generated each year. Written by leading experts in the field Compressive Sensing of Earth Observations provides a comprehensive and balanced coverage of the theory and applications of CS in all aspects of earth observations. This work covers a myriad of practical aspects such as the use of CS in detection of human vital signs in a cluttered environment and the corresponding modeling of rib-cage breathing. Readers are also presented with three different applications of CS to the ISAR imaging problem, which includes image reconstruction from compressed data, resolution enhancement, and image reconstruction from incomplete data.

Book Coded Aperture Imaging Application in One sided Imaging of Visually Obscured Objects

Download or read book Coded Aperture Imaging Application in One sided Imaging of Visually Obscured Objects written by William Scott and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The physical properties of visible light and its interaction with matter create obstructions the human eye cannot explore. High energy radiation has been used as an alternative to visible light to penetrate these concealed regions and reveal their contents. However, traditional imaging techniques require a two-sided apparatus with a radiation source and a detector on opposite sides of the concealed object. One-sided imaging of concealed objects is made possible by a technique called backscatter imaging, utilizing high energy radiation. However, the signal produced by backscatter imaging is inherently weak, which makes in- terpretation di cult. One of the most promising techniques for recovering the weak signal is the coding and decoding provided by Coded Aperture Imaging (CAI). The purpose of this study was to create and test a coded aperture imaging system using backscattered x-rays. This would enable one-sided imaging of concealed objects and demonstrate whether a portable imaging system was feasible. The results obtained from conducting a computer simulation, visi- ble light experiments, and x-ray experiments proved that the process works, however, the x-ray ux levels required were too high for a portable system, based upon the current equipment available at UOIT.
