Book Better Software Faster

Download or read book Better Software Faster written by Tom De Schutter and published by Happy About. This book was released on 2014-03-17 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recent rise of "smart" products has been made possible through tight co-design of hardware and software. The growing amount of software and hence processors in applications all around us allows for increased flexibility in the application functionality through its life cycle. Not so long ago a device felt outdated after you owned it for a couple of months. Today, a continuous stream of new software applications and updates make products feel truly "smart". The result is an almost magical user experience where the same product can do more today than it could do yesterday.

In this book we dive deep into a key methodology to enable concurrent hardware/software development by decoupling the dependency of the software development from hardware availability: virtual prototyping. The ability to start software development much earlier in the design cycle drives a true "shift-left" of the entire product development schedule and results in better products that are available earlier in the market.

Throughout the book, case studies illustrate how virtual prototypes are being deployed by major companies around the world. If you are interested in a quick feel for what virtual prototyping has to offer for practical deployment, we recommend picking a few case studies to read, before diving into the details of the methodology.

Of course, this book can only offer a small snapshot of virtual prototype use cases for faster software development. However, as most software bring-up, debug and test principles are similar across markets and applications, it is not hard to realize why virtual prototypes are being leveraged whenever software is an intrinsic part of the product functionality, after reading this book.

Book Creating and Using Virtual Prototyping Software

Download or read book Creating and Using Virtual Prototyping Software written by Douglass E. Post and published by Addison-Wesley Professional. This book was released on 2021-12-28 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Develop, Deploy, and Sustain High-Performance Virtual Prototyping for Advanced R&D Organizations must reduce time-to-market, costs, and risks while producing higher-quality products that grow ever more complex. In response, many are turning to advanced software for rapidly creating and analyzing virtual prototypes, and accurately predicting the performance and behavior of the systems they represent. This requires a deep understanding of physics-based digital engineering and high-performance computing, as well as unique organizational and management skills. Now, Douglass Post and Richard Kendall bring together knowledge that engineers, scientists, developers, and managers will need to build, deploy, and sustain these specialized applications—including information previously available only in proprietary environments. Post and Kendall illuminate key issues with a detailed book-length case study based on their work at the U.S. DoD's pioneering Computational Research and Engineering Acquisition Tools and Environments (CREATE) program, which developed eleven of the field's most advanced software tools. You'll find a detailed roadmap for planning, organizing, managing, and navigating complex organizations to successful delivery; as well as detailed descriptions of each step in the process, with clear rationales and concrete examples. The authors share detailed references, a convenient glossary and bibliography, sidebars on overcoming real-world challenges, and more. The book reviews the essentials of computational engineering and science and the pivotal role of virtual prototyping. It helps readers to: Plan and manage the paradigm shift from physical to virtual prototyping Establish, execute, and evolve Agile processes for developing virtual prototyping software Understand and implement virtual prototyping tools and workflows Verify and validate prototyping systems to ensure accuracy and utility Recruit and retain a specialized workforce, and train and support users Explore additional emerging roles for virtual prototyping

Book Control Systems Theory with Engineering Applications

Download or read book Control Systems Theory with Engineering Applications written by Sergey E. Lyshevski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamics systems (living organisms, electromechanical and industrial systems, chemical and technological processes, market and ecology, and so forth) can be considered and analyzed using information and systems theories. For example, adaptive human behavior can be studied using automatic feedback control. As an illustrative example, the driver controls a car changing the speed and steer ing wheels using incoming information, such as traffic and road conditions. This book focuses on the most important and manageable topics in applied multivariable control with application to a wide class of electromechanical dynamic systems. A large spectrum of systems, familiar to electrical, mechanical, and aerospace stu dents, engineers, and scholars, are thoroughly studied to build the bridge between theory and practice as well as to illustrate the practical application of control theory through illustrative examples. It is the author's goal to write a book that can be used to teach undergraduate and graduate classes in automatic control and nonlin ear control at electrical, mechanical, and aerospace engineering departments. The book is also addressed to engineers and scholars, and the examples considered allow one to implement the theory in a great variety of industrial systems. The main purpose of this book is to help the reader grasp the nature and significance of multivariable control.

Book Virtual Prototyping as an Aid for Control System Analysis

Download or read book Virtual Prototyping as an Aid for Control System Analysis written by Arnold P. Selnick and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Virtual Prototyping provides an opportunity for control engineers to observe and evaluate their designs in a "real world" setting without the costs or risks associated with flight test. Designers Workbench is a computer aided design tool that allows a user to create, view, modify and animate three- dimensional databases. These may include instruments, avionics displays and any out-the-window applications such as runways or terrain. The dynamic behavior of specific elements can be observed by linking data to the desired element. In this way a realtime animation of the simulation can be generated. The animation provides another analysis tool for the designer, by representing data in a more intuitive environment. Data files from two separate controller simulations was used. Cockpit instrumentation was modelled and used for each animation to monitor the aircraft states. In addition, each animation had an out-the-window perspective to view the aircraft model as it flew the prescribed trajectory.

Book An Integrated System for Virtual Simulation and Visualization of Rapid Prototyping

Download or read book An Integrated System for Virtual Simulation and Visualization of Rapid Prototyping written by Mei-Mei Amy Chan and published by Open Dissertation Press. Abstract: Abstract of the thesis entitled An integrated system for virtual simulation and visualization of rapid prototyping submitted by CHAN Mei Mei For the degree of Master of Philosophy at the University of Hong Kong This project proposes a Virtual Prototyping (VP) system that integrates Virtual Reality (VR) with Rapid Prototyping (RP) to create virtual or digital prototypes to facilitate product development. The proposed VP system makes use of two new simulation methodologies, namely the dexel-based and the layer-based fabrication approaches, to simulate the powder-based and the laminated sheet-based RP processes, respectively. The dexel-based approach deposits arrays of solid strips to form a layer, while the layer-based approach directly forms a complete layer by extruding the slice contours. The layer is subsequently stacked up to fabricate a virtual prototype. The simulation approaches resemble the physical fabrication processes of most RP systems, and are therefore capable of accurately representing the geometrical characteristics of prototypes. In addition to numerical quantification of the simulation results, the system also provides stereoscopic visualization of the product design and its prototype for detailed analyses. Indeed, the original product design may be superimposed on its virtual prototype, so that areas with dimensional errors beyond i design limits may be clearly highlighted to facilitate point-to-point analysis of the surface texture and the dimensional accuracy of the prototype. Hence, the key control parameters of an RP process, such as part orientation, layer thickness and hatch spacing, may be effectively tuned up for optimal fabrication of physical prototypes in subsequent product development. Furthermore, the virtual prototypes can be transmitted via the Internet to customers to facilitate global manufacturing. As a result, both the lead-time and product development cost can be significantly reduced. ii DOI: 10.5353/th_b3050213 Subjects: Prototypes, Engineering Virtual reality
