Book The Antediluvian History and Narrative of the Flood

Download or read book The Antediluvian History and Narrative of the Flood written by E. D. Rendell and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-28 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Antediluvian History, and Narrative of the Flood: As Set Forth in the Early Portions of the Book of Genesis; Critically Examined and Explained A satisfactory explanation of the early chapters of Genesis, has become a desideratum in the church; for there is no fact in its history better established, than that the Mosaic accounts of the creation and the deluge are no longer considered to express those sentiments, which, for many ages, they have been supposed to do. What used to be regarded as "orthodox" upon those subjects, has been compelled to recede before the light of rational investigation and scientific discovery. This is admitted by men with first-class minds, - minds stored with erudition and piety, - persons whose veneration for, and belief in, revelation are far above suspicion; - professors in our national universities, and other institutions for the dissemination of religion and learning. A decree, therefore, has gone forth against the old notions upon these subjects: the old vessels have been effectually broken; and all, who carefully examine the fragments, are convinced that it is impossible to repair them. It is true, that several new ones have been attempted to be made, on some modified ideas of the literal sense of those ancient writings; but an intelligent inspection of them has shown that they also arc marred and full of flaws, so that there has ceased to be any authorized interpretation of those extraordinary documents. In this dilemma, the old opinions continue to be taught to the rising generations, by which their minds must be prejudiced in favor of a mistaken judgment This, doubtless, produces no little uneasiness and alarm among those, who know them to be untrue. The influences, which have exposed the errors, have not yet become sufficiently powerful to check their progress. This is to be lamented; but it is one of the consequences of not having supplied such new interpretations of the subject, as may be safely adopted in their place. The old errors may as well be taught as any new one, if teachings must be enforced on the subject, before any more satisfactory views can be established. Hut why the teaching of demonstrated errors should be persisted in, it is difficult to determine. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Grappling With the Chronology of the Genesis Flood

Download or read book Grappling With the Chronology of the Genesis Flood written by Steven W. Boyd and published by New Leaf Publishing Group. This book was released on 2014 with total page 855 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understand this highly debated flash point for scientific debate, academic criticism, and common confusion with this unique presentation. Delve into the technical aspects of the chronology, historicity, and significance of understanding this landmark event, including what we can learn from the Hebrew words used to describe it.Examine the numerous geological, geophysical, and paleontological indications pointing to the reality and global scope of the Flood.Learn how and why the authors' exhaustive research began, putting forth objectives, criticisms they would address, and identifying obstacles to be resolved. The Flood as described in the Book of Genesis not only shaped the global landscape, it is an event that literally forms our understanding of early biblical history. Now an experienced team of scientists and theologians has written a definitive account of the Genesis Flood with detailed research into the original biblical text and evidences unlocked by modern science and study. Often recounted and discounted as just a myth or children's story, what we find with deeper study is instead a cataclysmic event, one that truly wiped out life on our planet with the exception of those preserved through God's plan. The devastation the Genesis Flood wreaked upon a rebellious world remains an important part of the biblical narrative we should understand for what it was - a divine act of judgment on a sin-immersed world.

Book excerpt: The Black Sea flood and the southern migration, Wilson argues, are the basis for the Genesis tale of Noah. He synthesizes the last 40 years' worth of archeological findings into a lively detective story, showing how various cultures in Europe, Asia and the Middle East still bear the vestigial traces of their Black Sea roots. He confirms his theory by citing the numerous myths of a great devastating flood and its aftermath among the Sumerians, Babylonians, Greeks and others. Wilson does not aim to prove the literal truth of the Bible story-only that Noah had real-life counterparts who escaped the flood by ship.
