This book was released on 2014-07-13 with total page 611 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a translation (8th edition-2013) of The Aramaic New Testament (Aramaic was the language of Jesus and his countrymen of 1st century Israel) in a literal English prose translation of The Peshitta New Testament & the Peshitta Psalms & Proverbs. Aramaic was the language of Israel, the Middle East and of the Jews in Europe from the 6th century BC and afterward until the Muslim conquests of the 7th century AD. Aramaic was used in Mel Gibson's film "The Passion of the Christ" to make the film as realistic and accurate as possible. This New Testament will surprise and thrill the reader with its power and inspiration coming from the words of "Yeshua" ("Jesus" in ancient Aramaic) as He originally spoke them, in a literal and readable English rendering. This edition contains 209 pages of notes demonstrating graphically in hundreds of verse examples that the Aramaic NT is the original text and the Greek NT is a translation of the Aramaic Peshitta text.8x11" 609 pages paperback in Large Print

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible is full of passages in which angelic beings are sent to accomplish God’s will. Angels speak for God, direct the course of nations, and protect God’s people. They worship God and deliver God’s judgment. In Angels in the Bible, George Smiga examines some of the Bible’s most fascinating passages about angels, exploring their ministry on God’s behalf and drawing insights for our own spiritual lives. Because angels are mediators of God’s presence and action, studying angels is studying God. Commentary, study and reflection questions, prayer, and access to online video lectures are included. 6 lessons.

Download or read book Playing with Scripture written by Andrew Judd and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-01-22 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book puts a creative new reading of Hans-Georg Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics and literary genre theory to work on the problem of Scripture. Reading texts as Scripture brings two hermeneutical assumptions into tension: that the text will continually say something new and relevant to the present situation, and that the text has stability and authority over readers. Given how contested the Bible’s meaning is, how is it possible to ‘read Scripture’ as authoritative and relevant? Rather than anchor meaning in author, text or reader, Gadamer’s phenomenological model of hermeneutical experience as Spiel (‘play’) offers a dynamic, intersubjective account of how understanding happens, avoiding the dead end of the subjective–objective dichotomy. Modern genre theory addresses some of the criticisms of Gadamer, accounting for the different roles played by readers in different genres using the new term Lesespiel (‘reading game’). This is tested in three case studies of contested texts: the recontextualization of psalms in the book of Acts, the use of Hagar’s story (Genesis 16) in nineteenth-century debates over slavery and the troubling reception history of the rape and murder in Gibeah (Judges 19). In each study, the application of ancient text to contemporary situation is neither arbitrary, nor slavishly bound to tradition, but playful.
