Book Purchasing and Supply Chain Management

Download or read book Purchasing and Supply Chain Management written by Thomas E. Johnsen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-10-24 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the ground-breaking new book for aspiring purchasing and supply chain leaders and anyone with a keen interest in this rapidly evolving field. For too long business has focused on short-term cost advantages through low-cost country sourcing with little regard for the longer-term implications of global sustainability. As the first book to fully address the environmental, social and economic challenges of how companies manage purchasing and supply chains, it aims to inspire the development of current and future purchasing and supply chain leaders. In addition to explaining the basic principles and processes of both purchasing and supply chain management, the book evaluates how to develop strategic and sustainable purchasing and supply chain management. A key message is that purchasing and supply chain management needs to focus on value creation rather than cost cutting. This requires the development of completely new purchasing and supply chain models that involve closed-loop supply structures, supply chain transparency and collaboration with new stakeholders in traditional sourcing and supply chain processes. Aimed at students, educators and practitioners the book integrates sustainability into each chapter as a core element of purchasing and supply chain management. Incorporating case studies from industry into each chapter, the book strikes a balance between theoretical frameworks and guidelines for implementation in practice.

Book Dynamic Supply Chain Alignment

Download or read book Dynamic Supply Chain Alignment written by John Gattorna and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-04-29 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just like the world financial system, but for different reasons, 21st-century corporations need a new business model for their enterprise supply chains. The old conventions no longer work in this new world of volatile and increasingly unpredictable demand and supply. The enterprise needs to become more 'connected' to its own parts, as well as its partners up and down the chains it participates in. So too, we need to embrace new ways of looking at customers to gain deeper, more insightful impressions of what they are telling us about the way they want to buy our products and services. Finally, these signals need converting into corresponding action, driven by the people in the business, leaders and staff alike, who are aligned to their customers' wishes. This is the world of dynamic supply chain alignment where, increasingly, supply chains are the business. In the follow-up to his hugely successful Strategic Supply Chain Alignment, John Gattorna's Dynamic Supply Chain Alignment, explores how to create and sustain multiple supply chains with a level of flexibility and responsiveness that allow you to respond to opportunities and threats; at the same time aligning with your suppliers, your partners and your customers. When more executives get to this stage of development the profits will flow more readily, and sustainability of performance will not be the same issue it is today. The way forward is right there in front of us; but, says John Gattorna, we must throw off old ways and embrace the new.

Book Implementing Best Purchasing and Supply Management Practices

Download or read book Implementing Best Purchasing and Supply Management Practices written by Nancy Y. Moore and published by RAND Corporation. This book was released on 2002 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because the U.S. Air Force spends over one-third of its budget on nonweapons purchased goods and services, such purchases are a prime target area in which to seek performance improvements and cost savings. Prompted by a need for improved performance from its supply base, the Air Force has become increasingly aware of the advantages of using market research, contract consolidation, supply base rationalization, and other leading purchasing and supply management (PSM) practices in its dealings with suppliers. To aid the Air Force in its PSM efforts, RAND examined how innovative commercial firms implement such practices in their purchases of goods and services. After a review of the academic and trade literature, the study team conducted a series of elite interviews using a structured questionnaire to gather primary data from "best in class" commercial firms. The key findings are that (1) innovative commercial firms are moving to a strategic, goal-oriented approach to PSM, (2) implementing new PSM practices can take a number of years and often requires significant, permanent change throughout the organization, and (3) the Air Force needs strategies to sustain continuity of support for serious PSM change from one leadership team to the next.

Book Co alignment of Supplier Quality Management Practices and Cognitive Maps A Neo Configurational Perspective

Download or read book Co alignment of Supplier Quality Management Practices and Cognitive Maps A Neo Configurational Perspective written by Tobias Kosmol and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much of the previous research on the 'purchasing practice-performance link' rests on the notion of “net effects,” which assumes that specific practices independently of each other impact outcomes. This study challenges this core tenet by adopting a neo-configurational perspective, exploring how different combinations of factors (called “configurations”) affect outcomes. Another limitation of extant studies on the 'purchasing practice-performance link' is the narrow focus on practices; more recent behavioral supply management research finds the behavior of managers to be critically influenced by cognitive maps -- the lenses through which managers perceive, simplify, and interpret the world. Focusing on supplier quality as a core aspect of the broader 'purchasing practice-performance link', this study explores how configurations of different supplier quality management (SQM) practices and SQM-related cognitive maps help firms to manage supplier quality. It uses fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) to identify SQM configurations and a cognitive-linguistic approach for the computerized text analysis of purchasing managers' cognitive maps in the context of Western companies sourcing from Chinese suppliers. The configurational fsQCA analysis identifies four different configurations associated with overcoming barriers to SQM in emerging markets. SQM-related cognitive maps prove to be a critical component in these four configurations.

Book Acquisitions by Emerging Multinational Corporations

Download or read book Acquisitions by Emerging Multinational Corporations written by Johannes Distler and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-07-27 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis analyzes the motivation and performance of 403 acquisitions made by emerging multinational corporations (EMNCs) in Western Europe and North America between 1994 and 2013. The findings indicate that most EMNCs were motivated to acquire in order to obtain access to the upstream and downstream know-how of their target firms. In addition, the thesis' event study results demonstrate that EMNCs on average generated value for their shareholders with their acquisitions over short periods around acquisition announcement. This result is particularly significant since similar studies on buying firms from developed markets have frequently come to the conclusion that acquirers destroy shareholder value.

Book Electronic Procurement of Transportation Services

Download or read book Electronic Procurement of Transportation Services written by Philipp Sylla and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-28 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the electronic procurement of transportation services. It provides an overview of the fundamentals for the procurement of transportation services, including the relevant objectives, involved parties, and processes. A focus is set on Electronic Transportation Marketplaces (ETMs) which offer main functionalities for the procurement of transportation services on the spot and contract market as well as additional functionalities to improve further processes (e.g., time-slot management). Even though such marketplaces are important from an economic and ecological perspective, previous research provides only little knowledge about the status quo of their use, the determinants of marketplace use and the link between this use and business value. To close these research gaps, Philipp Sylla builds a comprehensive conceptual research framework and conducts an empirical analysis based on a web survey of shippers in Germany. The empirical results build the foundation for the development of an evaluation concept that provides practical support for shippers in the assessment of marketplace use and the evaluation of potential business value impacts.
