Book The Plaston Concept

Download or read book The Plaston Concept written by Isao Tanaka and published by Springer. This book was released on 2022-02-28 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book presents the novel concept of plaston, which accounts for the high ductility or large plastic deformation of emerging high-performance structural materials, including bulk nanostructured metals, hetero-nanostructured materials, metallic glasses, intermetallics, and ceramics. The book describes simulation results of the collective atomic motion associated with plaston, by computational tools such as first-principle methods with predictive performance and large-scale atom-dynamics calculations. Multi-scale analyses with state-of-the art analytical tools nano/micro pillar deformation and nano-indentation experiments are also described. Finally, through collaborative efforts of experimental and computational work, examples of rational design and development of new structural materials are given, based on accurate understanding of deformation and fracture phenomena. This publication provides a valuable contribution to the field of structural materials research.

Book The Age Hardening Response of Thermomechanically Processed Al Mg Li Alloys

Download or read book The Age Hardening Response of Thermomechanically Processed Al Mg Li Alloys written by William F. Ferris and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four Al-Mg-Li alloys of composition (weight percent) in the ranges 6-8% Mg, 0.5-2% Li, and 0.15-0.25% Zr were hot forged and warm rolled (thermo-mechanically processed) to achieve a microstructure suitable for superplasticity. They were then subjected to age-hardening studies at temperatures indicated by concurrent differential scanning calorimetry research. Optical and transmission electron microscopy techniques were used to relate microstructure to mechanical properties. Only the 6%Mg-2%Li alloy showed significant age hardening response, however, concurrent research demonstrated excellent superplastic response in the 6%Mg-1%Li and 8%Mg-1%Li alloys. Keywords: Thermomechanically, Processed, Superplasticity, Age Hardening Studies, Aluminum alloys, Magnesium alloys, Lithium alloys.

Book Fundamentals of Magnesium Alloy Metallurgy

Download or read book Fundamentals of Magnesium Alloy Metallurgy written by Mihriban O Pekguleryuz and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-03-11 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Magnesium and magnesium alloys offer a wealth of valuable properties, making them of great interest for use across a wide range of fields. This has led to extensive research focused on understanding the properties of magnesium and how these can be controlled during processing. Fundamentals of magnesium alloy metallurgy presents an authoritative overview of all aspects of magnesium alloy metallurgy, including physical metallurgy, deformation, corrosion and applications.Beginning with an introduction to the primary production of magnesium, the book goes on to discuss physical metallurgy of magnesium and thermodynamic properties of magnesium alloys. Further chapters focus on understanding precipitation processes of magnesium alloys, alloying behaviour of magnesium, and alloy design. The formation, corrosion and surface finishing of magnesium and its alloys are reviewed, before Fundamentals of magnesium alloy metallurgy concludes by exploring applications across a range of fields. Aerospace, automotive and other structural applications of magnesium are considered, followed by magnesium-based metal matrix composites and the use of magnesium in medical applications. With its distinguished editors and international team of expert contributors, Fundamentals of magnesium alloy metallurgy is a comprehensive tool for all those involved in the production and application of magnesium and its alloys, including manufacturers, welders, heat-treatment and coating companies, engineers, metallurgists, researchers, designers and scientists working with these important materials. - Overviews all aspects of magnesium alloy metallurgy - Discusses physical metallurgy of magnesium and thermodynamic properties of magnesium alloys - Reviews the formation, corrosion and surface finishing of magnesium and its alloys
