Book Christ s New Homeland Africa

Download or read book Christ s New Homeland Africa written by African Bishops and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2015-08-19 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In June of 2015, five cardinals and forty-five bishops representing fifty African countries met in Accra, Ghana, to prepare for the October 2015 Synod on the Family. In his opening remarks included in this volume Robert Cardinal Sarah encouraged the bishops of Africa to speak with one voice during the synod: ""I encourage you to speak with clarity and with one credible voice and with filial love of the Church. Be conscious of the mission of the Church; protect the sacredness of marriage which is now being attacked by all forms of ideologies that intend to destroy the family in Africa. Do not be afraid to stress the teaching of the Church on marriage."" In a major six-page interview released during the same period in the French magazine Famille Chr賩enne , Cardinal Sarah said: ""At the synod next October we will address, I hope, the question of marriage in an entirely positive manner, seeking to promote the family and the values that it bears. The African bishops will act to support that which God asks of man concerning the family, and to receive that which the Church has always taught. . . . Why should we think that only the Western vision of man, of the world, of society is good, just, universal? The Church must fight to say no to this new colonization."" These African pastors provide much food for thought and reflection about modern Western culture and our personal lives, as well as an introduction to the Synod. The title of the book comes from a phrase used by Blessed Pope Paul VI, which in our time beautifully expresses the universality of the Church and the increasing role played by African Church leaders. Among the contributing cardinals and bishops are Robert Cardinal Sarah, Francis Cardinal Arinze, Christian Cardinal Tumi, Th认ore Cardinal Sarr, Archbishop Samuel Kleda, and more.

Book Being and Building up the Church in My Father s Home

This book was released on 2020-05-29 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rehabilitation, by St. Pope Paul VI, of African traditional religions and cultures has made them more objective for philosophical, theological and anthropological investigation and reflection. And the investigating and reflecting subject is a native African himself. The repatriation of missiology into ecclesiology in the Catholic Church towards the end of the 20th Century was a new development; and the result of it is what we have before us in this book. Here personal native anthropological, philosophical and theological studies and experience have combined with in-depth reading of some African novelists’ necessarily Afrocentric distillation of African culture has nourished thinking and reflection at a new level in terms of ecclesial implications of living Christianity authentically and of being and building the Church in my father’s home beyond deference as defect.

Book Woman as Mother and Wife in the African Context of the Family in the Light of John Paul II s Anthropological and Theological Foundation

Download or read book Woman as Mother and Wife in the African Context of the Family in the Light of John Paul II s Anthropological and Theological Foundation written by Joseph Okech Adhunga and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-04-30 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examines the theological and anthropological foundations of the understanding of the dignity and vocation of woman as a mother and wife, gifts given by God that expresses the riches of the African concept of family. There are two approaches to inculturation theology in Africa, namely, that which attempts to construct African theology by starting from the biblical ecclesial teachings and find from them what features of African culture are relevant to the Christian theological and anthropological values, and the other one which takes the African cultural background as the point of departure. According to John Paul II, the dignity and vocation of woman is “something more universal, based on the very fact of her being a woman within all the interpersonal relationships, which, in the most varied ways, shape society and structure the interaction between all persons,” (Mulieris Dignitatem no. 29). This “concerns each and every woman, independent of the cultural context in which she lives and independently of her spiritual, psychological and physical characteristics, as for example, age, education, health, work, and whether she is married or single,” (Mulieris Dignitatem, no. 29). The theology of inculturation as presented in this dissertation opens the way for the integration of the theological anthropological teachings of John Paul II in understanding African woman as mother and wife.

Book Theology and Conversation

Download or read book Theology and Conversation written by Jacques Haers and published by Peeters Publishers. This book was released on 2003 with total page 952 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of articles presents the main contributions to the third LEST (Louvain Encounters in Systematic Theology) conference, held at the K.U.Leuven's Faculty of Theology, November 2001. Its theme, Theology and Conversation: Towards a Relational Theology, continues the explorations in contemporary theology as set out in the 1997 LEST I conference on The Myriad Christ (BETL 152) and in the 1999 LEST II conference on Sacramental Presence in Postmodern Context (BETL 160). In LEST III also, the plurality and diversity of theological approaches play a major role and the question is raised whether the contemporary theological endeavour in a global world contains in itself the tools to respectfully and constructively approach this diversity. The ideas of relation and conversation, as found in the theologies of the Trinity and of creation, as presupposed in ecclesial praxis, and as articulated in reflections that take their bearings from spiritual experience, provide a powerful means for renewed theological reflection capable of confronting plurality and diversity.
