Book The Adventures of Bad Boy Billy

Download or read book The Adventures of Bad Boy Billy written by Leonard D. Hodera and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-10-19 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a Salinger, "Catcher in the Rye," type of story of a 12-year-old boy sent away from his home in Chicago, to live on a farm up in Wisconsin, with his Great-Grandmother--who he's only met once--which was enough. Also, of course, there's husband #4, an ex-sheriff, with his two young girls--one's a knockout, and the other can knock you out. And then there's slick Eddie, turned 17 and going into the Navy. Yeah, World War II is on, but 'Hey!' it's on the other side of the world. And then there's mean Ah-lex, the hired hand. He'll chew you up with or without salt and pepper just for kicks. But next week Richard gets out of Montifiore--which isn't a reform school but you have to be bad to get in. So he's coming up. And get this: he's my uncle even though he's only a year older than me. But, of course, I never-ever call him: Uncle Richard--unless he twists my arm into a pretzel. And then there was the 'haying' during a heatwave; 90's day-in and day-out under a blistering sun. The trick was to park your brain outside your body. Then when the rain finally came it forgot to leave. The creek became a river, and the river became a lake, and the lake an ocean with the cows trapped on the other side. And if cows don't get milked they explode or something. And there goes the farm. So we converted a sled into a raft and that took care of Ah-lex. I got dragged along by some barbed wire and ended up floating down the river in an inner tube at the mercy of the Demons. And that was just the beginning...

Book The Afterlife of Billy Fingers

Download or read book The Afterlife of Billy Fingers written by Annie Kagan and published by Hampton Roads Publishing. This book was released on 2013-03-01 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A true story, this fascinating page-turner demystifies what happens after we die and will forever change your views about life, death and the hereafter. Annie Kagan is not a medium or a psychic, she did not die and come back to life; in fact, when she was awakened by her deceased brother, she thought perhaps she had gone a little crazy In The Afterlife of Billy Fingers: How My Bad-Boy Brother Proved to Me There’s Life After Death, Kagan shares the extraordinary story of her after death communications (ADC) with her brother Billy, who began speaking to her just weeks after his unexpected death. One of the most detailed and profound ADC’s ever recorded, Kagan’s book takes the reader beyond the near-death experience. Billy’s vivid, real-time account of his on-going journey through the mysteries of death will change the way you think about life. Death and your place in the Universe. In his foreword, Dr. Raymond Moody, author of Life after Life, explains the phenomena of walkers between the worlds, known to us since ancient times, and says that Dr. Kagan’s thought-provoking account is an excellent example.

Book Bad Boy Bill His Adventures With Naughty Girls

Download or read book Bad Boy Bill His Adventures With Naughty Girls written by Fil Lewitt and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2011-04-01 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the grand tradition of "My Secret Life" and Henry Miller's "Tropic of Cancer" and "Tropic of Capricorn," this palimpsest of a book, woven into a narrative from the secret journals of more than fifty years of the life of Bill Dingel, becomes a picaresque, or episodic, romance that shows a man who is a lover, not an abuser, of women, girls, boys and even ladyboys, as he moves through the east coast of America of the 50s and the west coast in San Francisco of the 60s, and then through Asia as well, in the 70s through the 90s, finding love and lovers in his own inimitable style. The book is also his personal commentary on life and mores in the second half of the twentieth century, written by a man full of curiosity and openness, with a sense of humor about who he is and how he expresses it. Join Bill as he travels through America and Asia, helping others as he helps himself, a man who truly likes other people and has no inhibitions about exploring the possibilities of love despite a world seemingly full of moralists, government spies and censors, and religious right-wingers. He believes in persuasion, not coercion, and detests men who abuse and cause pain in order to get pleasure. Yet his experiences are often amazing. Bill brings the reader into his unusual world, a world that few see and less experience.

Book Legends of the Wild West

    Book Details:
  • Author : Robert Edelstein
  • Publisher : Centennial Books
  • Release : 2020-12-01
  • ISBN : 1951274350

Download or read book Legends of the Wild West written by Robert Edelstein and published by Centennial Books. This book was released on 2020-12-01 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For several hundred years, the West had been the land of dreams, an extraordinary region of hope, expansion and opportunity where European countries—and then the young USA itself—sent their finest explorers to plant seeds in a seemingly untapped, open landscape. This spirit captured the popular imagination in the Wild West, those raucous 30 years between the end of the Civil War and the beginning of a new century. Within these pages, readers will explore true tales of rebels and heroes such as General George Custer, Buffalo Bill, Billy the Kid, Jesse James, Annie Oakley, and Sitting Bull, among others. The Wild West was the American Dream on steroids. It was an age of gunfights and gold rushes, cowboys and Comanches, with the likes of Buffalo Bill, Jesse James and Billy the Kid making their names. It forged extraordinary legends and even bigger lies, with everything fueled by dime novels written back East that encouraged folks to grab their share of a promise that was difficult for this hard land to keep. This book looks at all these mythical characters, the start of the railroad across the nation, the cost it all dealt to the Native Americans whose land was lost, and the way Hollywood still keeps the dream alive. As historian Richard White says, “People could go west and no matter their failures elsewhere, they had an opportunity to remake themselves. It’s a symbol for a kind of individualism that actually doesn’t exist in the West, but mythically it does.”

Book Audacious Kids

Download or read book Audacious Kids written by Jerry Griswold and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2014-11-01 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The definitive book-length study of the great classics of American children’s literature, now updated for a new century. Outstanding Book of the Year Award, Children’s Literature Association Often called the Golden Age of Children’s Books, the years stretching from the Civil War to World War I were a remarkable epoch in juvenile literature, an era when the best authors on both sides of the Atlantic wrote some of their finest work primarily for children. In Audacious Kids, Jerry Griswold provides a groundbreaking and lucid study of twelve of these classic American children’s tales, including such time-honored stories as Little Women, Tom Sawyer, The Secret Garden, and The Wizard of Oz. Griswold’s most remarkable insight is that, fundamentally, these twelve books all tell essentially the same story: a child is orphaned, makes a journey, is adopted and harassed by adults, and eventually triumphs over them and comes into his or her own. Griswold, a leading figure in the study of children’s literature, also reveals that these tales emphasize motifs that are distinctly American, such as positive thinking, concern with health, and the concealment of sex and violence, and he shows how these secular parables replaced religion with psychology and preached gospels of emotional self-control and optimism. In this revised edition, which is aimed at students, scholars, and general readers, Griswold has updated the text throughout and added a new preface, introduction, and select bibliography.

Book A Companion to D W Griffith

Download or read book A Companion to D W Griffith written by Charles Keil and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-02-05 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most comprehensive volume on one of the most controversial directors in American film history A Companion to D.W. Griffith offers an exhaustive look at the first acknowledged auteur of the cinema and provides an authoritative account of the director’s life, work, and lasting filmic legacy. The text explores how Griffith’s style and status advanced along with cinema’s own development during the years when narrative became the dominant mode, when the short gave way to the feature, and when film became the pre-eminent form of mass entertainment. Griffith was at the centre of each of these changes: though a contested figure, he remains vital to any understanding of how cinema moved from nickelodeon fixture to a national pastime, playing a significant role in the cultural ethos of America. With the renewed interest in Griffith’s contributions to the film industry, A Companion to D.W. Griffith offers a scholarly look at a career that spanned more than 25 years. The editor, a leading scholar on D.W. Griffith, and the expert contributors collectively offer a unique account of one of the monumental figures in film studies. Presents the most authoritative, complete account of the director’s life, work, and lasting legacy Builds on the recent resurgence in the director’s scholarly and popular reputation Edited by a leading authority on D.W. Griffith, who has published extensively on this controversial director Offers the most up-to-date, singularly comprehensive volume on one of the monumental figures in film studies
